The only reason the Sox traded for him was because of the fire sale Florida had. It's not like Boston asked the Marlins, "What do you guys want for Beckett?" Beinfest was shopping him around after 2005.

Gee, he's entering his prime years and he's been on the DL nine times already? Sound like too big of a risk to trade away premier talent for him.

Gee that was because he pitched mainly in Florida... the heat doing partial of the damage giving him blisters. Wait did he lead the team in innings this past season? Did he lead the team in games started? Didnt he turn out to be the lone healthy starter the Sox had?

Im not saying he's gonna turn into a consistent 32+ start/200+ inning guy, but he proved that the sox scouts that he can be healthy for a season. If i were to guess his 2007 line: 14-18 wins, 3.95-4.20ish ERA, 180 Ks

i used to see the orioles and the yanks alot when baltimore was in miami and ny in lauderdale

back then(80s) tix were a couple bucks a piece and you could rub elbows with the players who were trying to make the team

now??

they sell out every game in ft meyers, they have a crew of maybe 100 degenerates following the van from the fens to florida and the yanks sox tix cost 300 a yo to watch guys who will more than likely be in pawtucket or columbus in april.

baseball did a great job marketing out spring training and the state of florida obliged by building cities to house these teams...a win win for the game and the fans

the first part of spring training is useless and watching the hitters is essentially useless as well. Bat speed may be something to take into account but that doesnt take the cake. I just look to see location and velocity from the pitchers come the third week of ST. If Pavano is topping out at 88 and missing the corners, then we should have dumped his ass. Igawa will be an intriguing follow during ST as well as all of the high profile minor league kids.

Cool thing is, I am getting transferred this yr and one of my potential landing spots is 1 hour from scranton, a half hour from trenton and an hour and a half train ride from the bronx. Yea, its in Jersey but a nice part and right near all that good yankee baseball. Spring training could be a prelude to some serious fun for this summer.

Newark is a hole. I missed my connecting flight there over Labor Day on my way to a wedding in VT and had to stay at the airport Ramada. Luckily there were two straight nights of open bar (rehersal dinner and wedding) to kill off what I picked up from the bed.

Okay, so now it's the weather that was killing him?

He did lead the team in games started and innings pitched, but he also had the highest ERA on your team and a very horrible WHIP. Wins are the worst way to judge a pitcher's value (remember the six-homer game by Wakefield).

Wow dodgers fans are so one-dimensional, he is too good to duplicate 2006 numbers

He didnt have the highest ERA on the team

I was referring to guys in the rotation that played the entire season. I don't consider guys like Holtz or Alvarez or Clement.

Back to the original topic, no, the Sox are not the #1 rotation in baseball, regardless of how much of an aberration you thought 2006 was for Beckett.

The arm-pit of America. I lived there for 6 months and heard nothing but ambulance' date=' police, and fire truck sirens. That city should get flushed out to sea.[/quote']

Can't be worse than Camden, NJ, can it?
