At first i thought this begin to a season would be pretty cool and unique but now that i think about it, I think the trip would mess up some player mind and body cycles with the off set time zone and long flits over seas. Also I wouldn't want any player getting sick in Japan and losing some of the season, I remember when the Yankees played some spring training games i think out of the US a few years back and Giambi was sick for a long time... So I don't think it would be the best idea to start the season in Japan...

I understand tthe logic, trying to show the japanese market thier former star, while also trying to make good with japanese relations for future signings. But then I also agree that this could make to a slow start to the begining of the season, possibly putting us behind the eight ball to start the season.

The slow start thing would just be a mental problem, i dont think it will actually affect them physically. I understand why they would want to go to Japan and i dont think that its too bad of an idea just because we got some natives on the team

It's a very good business decision specially considering you got Dice. Baseball wise though, some Yankees were clearly uncomfortable and blamed the trip for their sluggish start.

Yesterday, at Kei Igawa's press conference, Randy Levine said the Yankees would be making some major announcements in the next few weeks about Asia and Japan.

I don't know if it's related, but the possibility is certainly interesting. I can only imagine what the response in Japan would be if the Yankees and Sox played one another over there.

The time difference alone isn't worth it. It's too difficult to re-adjust. And the Yankees did have a horrible April that year. I hope they don't do it.

and Giambroids and Brownroids contracted anal syphilis over there.
I remember that, they both got liek severe intestinal problems and missed like 2 weeks a piece.

That is jsut freaking calling J.D Drews name... out for weeks due to something he contracted in Japan, we can't go just because of him.

I missed this post 10 days ago, but it is pretty funny. I can see it now, JD Drew to the 15 day DL because he got AIDS from some kung pow chicken.

It's stupid I don't like the idea of Major league teams starting the season in Japan if they are going to do this then what is the point of the Japan All Star Series when they go over and play the series against the Japanese teams. Shouldn't have the guys going over there it's just a disadvantage if anything they go to the different time zone then they have to come back and readjust to the time zone difference again I dunno I just hate the whole thing. Shouldn't be doing it at all. It's just like the NFL Playing regular season games in other countries like they will be playing in London next year. Leagues need to stay away from this.

A decision like this does not take the US fans into consideration at all.

No doubt. We are trying to sell our game overseas. Why not send then a TB-KC classic rather than f*** with possible playoff teams.

I agree with you if they are going to do this then they need to send two teams that have no chance of making the playoffs whatsoever.

Does anyone know the name of the restaurant Giambi and Brown ate at a few years ago in Japan when they opened the season there? I'd like to make reservations there for a few of the Sox players.

Send TB and KC there, they don't draw anyone at home, You can't take a whole Yanks, Sox series from the season ticket holders...

That is some ********. If the Japanese want baseball so bad, they can come to us. People who hold season tickets and the U.S. fanbase alone shouldn't be treated like s*** all because the league wants to showboat our teams across the world.

I do agree if we send teams over there, send some teams that aren't popular to begin with, like KC, TB, Rockies, etc.

I dont like this idea at all! The yankees played in Japan in 2004 and had a horrible start to the season, this could happen to the Sox

The only positive coming out of this is that the Yankees would be just as jet-lagged as the Sox when they come back to play in the US.

That said, it's a terrible, terrible idea to take two powerhouse teams like that and make them play in Japan to open the year.

Does anyone know who makes the final decision? Is it John Henry's decision on whether or not the Sox do it? Because if that's the case, I'll picket outside Fenway Park.

This is a bad idea. Its a US market. These are the 2 biggest market baseball teams in America. They are the hardest games to get too. So you want to take a Sox-Yanks series over sea? Horrible idea. They know they will sell out if they play at Fenway or Yankee stadium, so why risk going over to Japan and taking risks you don't need to take. I agree that if they really wanted to explore the Japanese market, make an exibition game over there in the middle of January, or sometime that doest impeed the regular season or spring training. We all saw what happened to the guys who were in the baseball classic last year. They all had horrid starts to their season because of the timing. I bet the Yankees are going to shoot this proposal down.

Wait, you dont think a match between the Yankees and Red sox (with Matsui, Matsuzaka, Okajima, etc.) would be garunteed to be sold out?
