EDIT: Ok obviously the site is acting weird, must be from a barrage of traffic to read the blog. This is the summary from rotoworld

Daisuke Matsuzaka and his agent, Scott Boras, will head to Boston when the Red Sox return home on Wednesday, the Boston Herald reports.

That would seem to suggest there's either a deal in place or something is at least close to getting done. If Matsuzaka was only asking for $66 million over six years, then there's no way the Red Sox could have let him go back to Japan.

If they're both on the plane, it's done.

Any doubt?

But I thought Boras was planning on using him as a chip to tear down the whole posting system, then go on to buy out D-Mat from the Seibu Lions to sign him to a $100 million contract with New York :harhar:

What if Boras commandeers the plane, forces it to land at JFK, and holds Matsuzaka hostage until either the Red Sox or Yankees make a ridiculous offer? I bet that's whats gonna happen.

I said it was a possibility, but I also stated the I thought a deal would get done. However, the posting system is garbage, and needs to be changed.

So much for that, huh Jacksonian/Gom?

ESPN also reporting it.

Sounds like the Red Sox flinched-- although we won't know until something is announced.

But Daisuke coming back with the team is certainly GOOD news.

If the deal is 6/$66 mil, I don't think they "flinched" at all.

Oh my god. How the hell...?

My first thoughts as well. Hahaha I feel like a stalker. If Matsuzaka only knew that this is how dedicated we are...

How'd you find this out anyway, ORS?

hey' date=' is this gonna stop us from getting Zito?[/quote']

I hope the Red Sox were never even thinking about signing that overachiever. He'd be exposed if he pitched at Fenway for half of his starts.

I picked it up on another message board; I'm not that obsessed. Although, I did click on it before I copied the url. :)

dont lie now ORS, its now your homepage and in between classes or at work or whatever you do, you know you are sneaking a peek making sure the plane makes it safe and sound.

You may be hoping that they show a little dot dropping from the plane to the ground below though, you know, when they throw Boras off the plane.

RSR, this effectively removes the sox as contenders for Clemens. They now have 5 starters and if Matsuzaka lives up to his billing, then it will be serviceable to say the least and spectacular if all the balls bounce in the right direction.

This move essentially makes Clemens a Yankee in my opinion. I think Houston has moved on and the yankees are pondering putting Igawa in AAA for a season to get his legs under him. They may start the season with Pavano in the rotation, dump him once he shows his arm doesnt fall off after throwing a pitch and insert clemens with 2/3 of the season to go.
