Ya, a year at $16 million. Way way too much. Frank Thomas is getting $9 million a year and he was more productive than Bonds last season, and is also 4 years younger. Bonds isn't worth any more than $10 million. Even that is crazy. What are the Giants thinking?

Im really suprised the Giants take their time. I'm sure it would have gotten to the point where he either signs with the Giants for what they offer, or he doesn't play next season. It was obvious no other team wanted him.

Yes 16M for the headache that is Bonds is way too much. I'm actually glad SF was the team that signed him, because anyone else who did I would no longer beable to tolerate. Bonds is a pain and should have just retired already. Yes he probably will break the record next year but I won't celebrate. Bonds is a tool that needs to admit he used roids so that everyone would pay attention to him again and not Mcgwire and Sosa.

Even tho I'm a Sox fan and it pains me to say it, I think eventually even if Bonds does break the record, that AROD will break it later in his career if he stays healthy and puts consistant numbers up. I would rather have AROD the HR champ the Barry Bonds.

Player 1 = .454 OBP, 27 HR's .999 OPS.

1 year 16 million.

Player 2 = .386 OBP 20 HR's .890 OPS

5 years 70 million

Player 3 = .355 OBP 37 HR's .905 OPS

6 years 100 million

Seriously, I don't see how, in this market, that this is a terrible deal.

Probably 1 year' date=' $16 million.[/quote']

I've never hated Bonds like so many other baseball fans have and was actively rooting for him to break Mcgwire's record in '01, but I was really worried that if we traded Manny we might actually lose our minds and sign this guy for the Red Sox. Can you imagine what a zoo Fenway Park would have been with our instrusive press and Bonds' surliness with the fourth estate? Baseball might have become a secondary event at the ballpark. Let the Giants keep him. Barring some unforseen circumstances, they aren't going anywhere next year.

I think the Giants could have gotten him cheaper though. It wasn't like they were in a bidding war with anyone.

Julio, the Bonds deal worked the way it should. No one except Giants fans really want him now to break the record. In San Fran it will be a big event and a popular one. Where else would that reaction occur? Certainly not at Fenway, and certainly not at Dodger Stadium.:D :D :D :D

I really really really hope he gets hit by a car. If he break the HR record it will be a disgrace to baseball.
The hit king has been banned from the game for life. The hit king before him was reputed to be a murderer. The game surviived. I hate Bonds, but it is becoming quite evident that alot of players were enhancing in that era.

Bonds is going to break that record, we had all better get accustomed to that scene. However, we don't have to celebrate it and most of us won't now that we know he is a cheater. What gripes me is that he never really had to do any of that. He was a sure fire Hall of Famer. Back in '93 a bunch of us were rating ballplayers in the game and I said right off that Bonds was the very best. If we was the best (in my opinion back then) did he really have to take the roids? Then, again, McGwire and Sammy did and they shouldn't get in the Hall of Fame either.
