That'd be huge if we could get rid of him for a decent reliever. We'd have to eat a lot of his salary though.

Hinske, obtained in a waiver deal last August, has one year remaining, but under the terms of the deal, the Sox -- and thus any team acquiring him -- will only be responsible for $2.8 million in 2007.

Hinske could probably net us, as far as Seattle's major league relievers go

This should make A700 happy. The Red Sox have placed Eric Hinkse on the trading block, maybe to see if they could get at least a decent reliever in return. The Seattle Mariners are said to be interested

Trading block? They should put him on a block of ice and float him out to sea. I hope they can trick some team into taking him.

He's a great fit for the Pirates who are in need of a LH-bat. His position flexibility is a huge plus & his salary is $2.8m (after Toronto's contributions). What would it take with Hinske to net Salomon Torres or Mike Gonzalez (both relievers that the Sox have supposedly asked about)?

Ever since 2002 this guy has sucked. The Sox should get rid of him and try and get a decent arm out of it. I'm sure there is a team out there willing to give us something for Hinske. He will prolly be moved before Spring Training.

Nice, we already have WMP on the bench. Might as well move him to get an arm. Good idea.

A700, I love your absolute hatered of this guy! It's hilarious. Lets ship him off on the piece of ice that Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, the little elf guy, and Yukon Cornelius and maybe he will get eaten by the bummble monster! Merry XMAS :D

Hinske is more expensive than Kevin Thompson. And after seeing both of them' date=' I am not so sure you are right.[/quote']

Yeah man, like the Red Sox can't kick in some money to make that deal happen.

Thompson offers speed while both are equally crappy at hitting. I dont know why they would want him, but why the hell not.

That's what I'm saying man, why would the Pirates give up Marte for Thompson even though they just signed Marte to an extension?

The Pirates also already have 2 better options as the backup OFs, Nate McLouth and Jody Gerut

Thompson is 27 years old and has exactly 30 AB's in the majors. Hinske, while not a great hitter has a career .774 OPS and was right around .800 OPS last year. Kevin Thompson is complete garbage.

Here are Thompson's AAA numbers:

2005 .249/.335/.359/.694

2006 .265/.345/.438/.773

So basically Thompson was putting up worse numbers last year in AAA than Hinske did in MLB but Thompason is somehow better because he's fast?

Shhh....numbers are no way to win an argument.

And, umm, Hinske put up an .896 OPS vs. LHP last year, in the AL East. It's pretty tough to find a guy who puts up a .900 OPS against anybody. Just sayin'.
