Lugo to play centerfield for Cubs?

Already linked in the Gonzo or Lugo thread.

My only question is, does he plan to put a hit out on Soriano? Soriano is the converted IF that played good OF defense last year, and he's got the makeup for CF, so Julio needs Alphonso to disappear if he's going to play CF in Wrigley, IMO.

Supposedly Soriano moves to a corner OF spot where he is better suited, and Lugo takes over the infield when Felix Pie comes up. That's what I read.

Hope not. What we need to see is Lugo in a Boston uniform playing SS. Seems like the Sox aren't doing anything this offseason we haven't heard anything other than the whole J.D Drew situation but even that seems to be dying off. I think the Sox are too concerned with Matsukaza right now. They need to focus on the more important things like getting a SS and signing a RF to take over for Nixon. If the Sox don't smarten up they will find themselves without J.D Drew or Julio Lugo. And if they are going to trade Manny then they MUST get those two guys. Don't get me wrong those two are not near what Manny is but if you have no Lugo, Drew or Manny then this team will be in BIG, BIG trouble.

It's similar to our situation in centerfield last year. Damon got away, and we were desperate for a centerfielder. Each team we tried to negotiate with knew we were desperate, and wanted to get more out of us than they normally would have had we not been so desperate. If the Sox aren't careful, they'll end up losing more than they gain.

In a way, I hope Lugo signs with the Cubs - he's probably going to get a lot of money wherever he goes, because he's the only good shortstop left in free agency - and Theo needs to stop spending money, since most every big money decision he's made over the past few years has been a mistake - Schilling being the exception. Renteria, Clement, Wells, the list goes on. I think a better move would be to sign former Reds 3B Rich Aurilia. He's 35 years old - four years older than Lugo, but was a much more productive hitter last year:

J. Lugo - .278/.341/.421, 12 HR, 37 RBI, 24 SB

R. Aurilia - .300/.349/.518, 23 HR, 70 RBI, 3 SB

The steals aren't a big deal because we don't utilize the basepaths much anyways, and a one-year deal with Aurilia would be far cheaper (and safer) than a long-term one with Lugo. We gave Rent-a-wreck a big deal, he couldn't handle Boston, we had to unload him. What if the same thing happens with Lugo? He was terrible with the Dodgers last year - his only success as a pro has come with the Devil Rays, who have far less pressure to perform than the Red Sox do. Even if Aurilia turned out badly, we wouldn't have wasted that big of an investment on him. He's a third baseman, but he can play second, by the way, and perhaps shortstop.

This wknd, the Giants should be announcing a 2 or 3 year contract with Rich Aurilia

Its all but finalized that Drew has signed a 4 year/$56 million deal with an option for a 5th year. I heard on WEEI from Sean MacAdams that there should be a press conference at Fenway today thru Monday concerning JD Drew himself. Im not yet worrying that possibility he's not going to be signed

4 years 56 million, hmm that figure seems very fimilar... Damon would have been a better investment last year at that money.

If Damon was a free agent this year he'd be pulling in Carlos Lee money.

There's no way he gets that cotnract in today's market. So stop comparing the two thinking it's equal.

do you think it would be a good idea to bring pedro back?

32 mil came off the books. Timlin came back for 3 mil, Wake back for 4mil. They got Okajima for 1.2 mil. Cora took 2 mil. Drew looks like a 15mil deal. Matsuzaka will be at least a 10 mil deal if the sox truly want to sign him, most likely a 12mil deal. Now for the appreciating contracts.

Beckett from 4.3 to 6mil in 2007

Hinske from 1.1 to 2.8mil in 2007 (sox portion only)

Ortiz 7.75 to 12.5mil

WMP is arb eligible and made 440K last yr

Manny 19mil to 18mil

assuming WMP makes close to 3mil, Matsuzaka signs at 12mil and Drew signs at 15mil, then the sox will be 10.15mil over where they were last yr without having their infield filled, nor their bullpen touched.

You and I both know that the cap is not the only thing the sox watch. 51.1mil will hurt as well. The sox will want to drop that payroll' date=' not increase it.[/quote']

after last years embarasment the sox will want to win and not care so much about payroll.

They've said they plan to increase payroll with the increased cap level. Early offseason activity supports that, so I don't see where your comment is coming from.

stalking should not be allowed. This guy is here solely to pick a fight and although some of those pictures are downright hilarious, his intentions are to stir the pot rather than contribute. positively.

Shut the f*** up. I needed 15 posts so I could post a link in another thread.

I would think that fans of the Red Sox would take notice when your GM has a hard on for one of our players. That player being Lugo. Take this as a warning. Lugo sucks. I laugh at whoever signs him this offseason for the godawful amount he's looking for. $10M/year?!!! LMAO

Have you even watched enough of Lugo? Let me tell you, showing up in the 3rd inning and leaving in the 7th is harmful.

Moose excluded.

I am no sox fan, but I am surely not a cocksucking dodgers fan. Enjoy the smog.
