Right now...Lowell. If you sign Drew, then Drew. Trading this guy is a mistake, which is why I hope you do.

One of the big issues around trading Manny is protecting Papi. Now, I am not advocating this, because he is a cheating douche, but there is one bat on the market that could protect Ortiz if Manny is traded, and that is Barry Bonds (yes, he's LHH, it shouldn't really matter). I haven't lived in Boston for a few years, but can I still assume the Fenway Faithful would rather see Papi walk 200 times than see Bonds in a Sox uniform, and would they throw batteries at Bonds every game? Or would we stomach the poison for a serious run during Schill's last year?

I know I shouldn't even bring this up, and let's try to keep it civilized, but I'm curious to see if there are any Machievellian fans out there. One could argue that since the Yanks have Giambi we're owed a PED-er. But it would cost the Nation's pride, which I suspect most of us think is too high a price, especially after the Matsuzaka signing. Is there anyone out there who would take Bonds for a year?

Come on, it's one thing to have signed Giambi, Bonds, etc., before the steriod scandal erupted than it is now. I mean, do you think anyone would go after Sosa or Palmeiro now?

I for one, hope Bonds just goes away. Leave the game. I think if you get caught using steriods, you're banned. Period. Two year ban minimum. Personally, I'd like to see it for life. You'll see baseball cleaned up pretty damn quick.

Another thing..if you guys did sign Bonds, he will make Manny look like a Gold Glover...he is absolutely atrocious in the field...it's either that or Papi playing first. Pick one.

Manny to LAD for Kemp, Billingsley and Broxton

Billingsley, Hansen, Crisp+ for Andruw Jones

Would that get Jones???

1. Lugo

2. Youk

3. Ortiz

4. Jones

5. Drew

6. Willy Mo

7. Lowell

8. Varitek

9. Pedroia

LRP--Tavarez

LEFTY--???

MRP--???

MRP--Timlin

SU--Capps (trade D. Murphy+ for Matt Capps or maybe M Gonzalez if possible)

SU--Delcarmen

CL--Broxton

If Manny is traded, thats about the best case scenario in my opinion

the only other manny trade i would make would be for tejada.

The giants, padres and rangers (unless young's involved) dont seem like realistic possibilities

But they got caught. Bonds and Giambi are in exactly the same boat - we know that they know that we know that they know that everyone knows, etc. etc. - but they haven't been caught. Again, I'm not advocating a Bonds signing, I'm simply stating that he is in play.

nother thing..if you guys did sign Bonds' date=' he will make Manny look like a Gold Glover...he is absolutely atrocious in the field...it's either that or Papi playing first. Pick one.[/quote']

Actually, this is not 100% true. He has no range and plays in a left-field the size of Kansas, so that is not so good. But his instincts are first step are there. He'd be fine in Fenway. Under no circumstances would he be worse than Manny.

But I'd agree in general that it's best if he just fades away. He detracts from the game. What is more likely, though, is that we're pitching around him in the playoffs against Oakland. That sucks.

A Ramirez trade may also have an enormous impact on No. 3 hitter David Ortiz. "That guy will draw about 200 walks next year without Manny hitting behind him," said one scout. "I don't care who it is who bats fourth instead of Manny -- J.D. Drew, or Wily Mo Pena, whoever -- he won't be as dangerous as Manny was, because Manny can hit good pitching."

This says it all. Wily Mo is helpless against good pitching. Ortiz will be able to go on road trips without any bats, because he will not get the chance to swing them.

We cannot trade manny.

No hitter can back David as good as Manny can. Popi would have countless walks without him.

Keep Manny!!

Personally I could not care less what he did because I'm of the mind that there's a lot of other guys who've done it in the past, are doing it now or are using HGH which is not presently tested for...and for one reason or another just fly under the radar.

The present :Ryan Howard? Pujols? Soriano? Hafner? Thome? Delgado? Glaus?

The 90's: Brady Anderson? Albert Belle? Juan Gonzalez? Jay Buehner? Sosa? Palmiero?

What about the fringe players who only made it or hung on for a few years because they had that little extra help in the way of performance enhancing drugs.

Why single out Barry Bonds? Because he used and ended up being better than anyone else who used?

As far as him...or anyone else who has been implicated in the steroid scandal...wearing a Sox uniform, I root for the name on front and while I might not be overjoyed to have one of these guys on the Sox, my personal morality would not be insulted...cuz I don't really care what the fck they put in their bodies.

They ain't my idols.

They ain't my heroes.

They ain't my friends.

I don't really care what they do.

I'd MUCH rather get Wells on the team than Jones...but getting the Jays to trade him within the division would be next to impossible. And also, the only way I'd condone the Sox sending a lot of stuff to Toronto to get him is if we had a 4 year extension signed because he's a FA after this season.

Is it just me, or is there anyone else here who's got a little bit of fear in their hearts SOMEWHERE that if we move Manny, the Yankees could then make a run at him from whomever we deal him to? I know it's a wayyyyyyy outside chance...but I shiver when I think about Manny in stripes...

SHOULD Manny get traded, this is what I would like to see on opening day (very similar to Rdsxmbnt):

Lineup:

1. SS Julio Lugo

2. 1B Kevin Youkillis

3. DH David Ortiz

4. CF Andruw Jones

5. RF J.D. Drew

6. LF Wily Mo Pena

7. 3B Mike Lowell

8. C Jason Varitek

9. 2B Dustin Pedroia

Bench:

Rod Barajas

Alex Cora

Eric Hinske

David Murphy

Rotation:

1. Curt Schilling

2. Daisuke Matsuzaka

3. Jason Schmidt

4. Jon Papelbon

5. Josh Beckett

Bullpen:

CL Jon Broxton

SU Craig Breslow

MR Mike Timlin

MR Tim Wakefield

MR Chad Billingsley (work him out of here and work him into the rotation for '08)

MR Manny Delcarmen

MR Julian Tavarez

I think Hansen needs some more work in AAA. Give him another year down there, and bring him up if we need him to fill in for an injury or something. I don't want to see DiNardo. It would be nice to have a few spot starters in the bullpen like Wake, Billingsley, and Tavarez. I loved what I saw from Breslow.

Thoughts?

Id rather see Wells in CF then Jones, but Like everyone said it would take a third team and a 4 year contract, which he would be worth. Wells is very underatted and I think he's the only one besides Jones that could back Papi up. Leave Jones alone, he's another Boras guy and is gonna cost a ton, but so will Wells.
Posted

I only put Jones in there because he's more likely to be wearing our uniform than Wells is. I would prefer Wells as well, but I'm also not willing to give up that young talent to a division rival. Send them to Atlanta, Atlanta loves young guys and would be looking to unload Jones, as it's his contract year anyway.

Besides, I try to stay away from "pipe dreams." I see Wells as a step away from being one.

how do we get A Jones?? Id guess Billingsley would be the centerpiece in any Jones deal

They are now saying Dodgers a possible trading partner for --Sox want Matt Kemp 22 year old LF. The top outfield prospect in the Dodgers org.

Kemp is a very impressive player. He played a decent amount in the bigs last season. He is a doubles and homers guy who actually stole 6 bases in 52 games, and has good speed in the outfield.

I mentioned the dodgers option in the other thread, I think the "should we trade manny" one in "Talk Sox"

Not too bad, but a little optimistic getting Billingsley, Jones if that is one trade

I also do not see Schmidt in Boston, nor do I see Lugo. My projected lineup next post.

Projected Lineup

1B Kevin Youkilis

SS Orlando Cabrera

DH David Ortiz

CF Andrew Jones

RF JD Drew

LF Wily Mo Pena

3B Willy Aybar

C Jason Varitek

2B Dustin Pedroia

Rotation

D. Matsuzaka

C. Schilling

J. Papelbon

R. Clemens

J. Beckett

Bullpen

CL- Dan Kolb

SU- Timlin

Scott Schoenweis

Scot Shields

Breslow

Hansen

This would include a Manny trade looking something like this:

Manny to Angels

David Murphy, other prospect to Braves from Sox

Willy Aybar, Andrew Jones from Braves to Sox

Juan Rivera from Angels to Braves

Orlando Cabrera, Scot Shields to Sox from Angels

Posted

So, the Braves get David Murphy, Juan Rivera, and Michael Bowden for one of the best all-around outfielders in the game today? (Plus, they have to give up Aybar)

Wow, I thought Scherholtz would be given more credit for winning 14 consecutive divisions.

Oh, and Dan f***ing Kolb? If he's trotting out of the bullpen to close a game for the Red Sox on April 3rd, I will commit suicide.

Posted

I'm not sure what the problem is with Kolb. He did fine after Turnbow imploded. Maybe he will not be closer, but I think he is a good addition to the pen

On the Braves: They do not want to take on salary, so prospects and young major leaguers are the way they want the team to look.

Lowell is a mentor on the bench

Posted
Manny isn't going to the Angels. They have Gary Matthews Jr, for pete's sake ( )! Seriously, I think he is going to end up on an NL West team - hopefully the Dodgers. I could definitly see them going for Manny, giving up some good MLB ready prospects (Kemp is pretty good, and I would like to see him in the OF in Fenway) and/or young players, and going one step further to creating the LA Blue Sox.
