The only one I'm really against is Jeter, although I think Chavez is horribly overrated defensively too. Lowell was spectacular at 3B this year, as were some other players.

Jeter's fielding percentage=.975

Gonzo's fielding percentage=.985

not that it should be based all on fielding percentage, but I think Gonzalez clearly should have won

When it came to lack of errors we were the best but in Defense Efficiency we were ranked 28th, although, i not sure what goes into that rating system.

I was seriously thinkin that Lowell, Gonzo, and Loretta could have won it.

But its just voted on through reputaion, Jeter won last year, why not again. Same with Ichiro, Pudge, Hunter and the likes. I mean theyre good but......

Gonzo should have won it. Chavez... can't really argue with that although Lowell was probably worthy too. Jeter is a f***ing disgrace of a selection and thats coming from a sox fan who loves Jeter.

Yeah man, me too. I've come to really respect him the past few years and he's obviously been a tremendous personality in baseball over the past decade. Largely without injuries, tremendous power consistency from a SS, good speed, decent glove.

He's not an MVP, Hank Aaron award, or gold glove player this year though.

Baseball awards are the biggest sham going right now. The ballwashing for this guy is incessant. GG and Hank Aaron award? For a guy that was .03 below league average in RF and .005 above average in FPct (in other words, he was average), and also didn't lead the league in any major offensive statistical category? Yeah, that makes sense.

Here's why I care, these things are some of the standards looked at to get into the HOF. Just winning some of these awards won't get you in, but when stats are borderline, they can push a guy over the top. Don't take this to mean that I don't think Jeter will be a deserving HOF candidate when his career is done, but I think these awards should try and maintain some credibility for that reason alone.

Well for me the GG lost its meaning when Palmerio won the GG after playing around 20 games at 1st base and with all due respect to Hank Aaron who cares about the Hank Aaron award? The fact that they let fans vote on that award tells you all you need to know. To be quite honest sports writers are not much better then fans anyway.

GG are voted it on coaches of the ball clubs. redsox.com has a link to mlb.com and it explains the proccess, and yes Lowell got hosed that would have been big for his trade value don't you think? Just some thoughts.

I was talking about the Hank Aaron award not the GG(when it comes to the fan vote) and I think teams know Lowell is good defensive 3rd basemen already. He doesnt need a GG to announce that to the world.

the one SS who keeps getting overlooked in the AL is Michael Young. Again this year he should have won the GG in the AL for shortstops. While Gonzo is probably the best glove in the AL at SS, this past season he is trailing the likes of Tejada, Jeter, Young, Betancourt, Peralta and Guillen in games played and chances. I can understand how that would figure into the voting.

It shouldn't, Palmerio got one for playing 1st base in 24 games. It's a sham I don't consider it a very credable award.

guys who had equal, if not better, defensive years include AGonz, Young, Cabrera, Perralta and despite Tejada's slightly lower FPct, his range factor is higher and that's no fluke because anyone who gets to see Tejada often will tell you he gets to balls Jeter couldn't.

Yeah, the GG is a joke.

Couldn't agree more, it is a sham. With the few exceptions of the truly deserving winners, the GG is a popularity contest.

Its Definetely obvious that Jeter will win MVP now. And seriously whats with that. You ask any Jeter nut who they think should win the NL MVP and they say Howard or Pujos. Why not Miguel Cabrera, or someone else along Jeters lines? Personally i think Dye is deserving, or David " 54 homers" Ortiz.

Getting on Jeter Bashing, whats with that cocky way he tells the ump to talk to the hand? And whats with that friggin "Jump turn and throw" shenanigan. Just grab it, stop, and throw.

End Rant

While I must say that i'm thrilled that Jeter won it, I can't say he fairly deserves it. After Gonzo signed with the Sox in the offseason I pretty much ruled out the possibility of a 3rd consecutive gold glove for Jeter.
