while it may be refreshing to lou to coach in a town where someone cares about the team, i'm not sure how he's gonna fare. The fans will be looking for an immediate turnaround...i think we'll get a glimpse of what's going to happen when the FA signing season comes around.

this team is not ready to contend, IMO.

I hope, for Piniella's sake, that he made this a condition before signing. He pretty much begged the FO in Tampa Bay to fire him because he didnt' feel that they were serious about winning.

I'm not going to hold my breath, but IF Zambrano stays healthy, Prior & Wood get healthy... one or two solid bats and things will be fun in Wrigleyville.

let me tell u all now

big lou is the right guy for this team. the cubs are a team that needs a good manager. dont be suprised if u see arod going to the cubbies for i dnt no maybe a carlos zambrano. remember big louie and arod have some loving goin on i wouldnt be suprised to see something like that happen this off season think bout it..................

isn't it an oxymoron to use Prior or Wood in the same sentence as "healthy"?

ROTFLMFAO

I said "if"

The last time both were pretty much healthy, 2003, the cubbies came oh so close to the show.

Pinella to the Cubs. Im confused I never though he'd go to that team. Not really a contending team. But he may turn the team around who knows only time will tell.

Both and more? Look at the market for pitching. I'll be shocked if the Cubs trade away one of the game's top 5 pitchers, especially when all they would need to give up is money for ARam. They'd be stupid to make this trade.

VORP ARam/CZam 45/52, ARod 50

WinShares ARam/CZam 23/19, ARod 25

Stupid, I tell ya. No way that deal gets done.

Your comparing A-Rod's 2nd worst season to one of ARam's best season. What was A-Rod's VORP and Win Shares last season?(If your wondering what they are A-Rod's VORP last season was 91 and win shares was 37.)

I understand your point about the pitching but there is no incentive to trade the 2 time MVP if I'm not getting a great pitcher in return.

Oh, we are talking about what "you" would want. I'm disinterested in the expectations of fans because they are rarely reasonable, as is the case here. Even in ARod's MVP season he wasn't as valuable as those two............and to top it off, you said those two and more. More? See, this is what I'm talking about, completely unreasonable.

I thought you said that in an honest assessment of his value. My bad.

What do you think is fair for A-Rod? A-Ram for A-Rod? Thats crazy esp when consider they wil move him back to SS. 50 HR's from a SS is ultra valuable. I want a great pitcher and a replacement for him. Otherwise it makes no sense to move him. You label me as unreasonable but why dont you throw out a "fair" trade that makes sense for both sides because outside of Zambrano and Aramis I dont see a match and I'm not taking Mark "my arm hurts" Prior.

The Cubs have a 26 yr old lefty named Rich Hill, a Boston native, who was 6-3 in the second half and might be a viable part of a trade.

The thing with Mr. Rod is you are not going to get equal value because of his salary and his well-publicized "prime-time" shortfalls. Eating salary would help the Yankees get more in return. The problem is the Yankees need pitching and every other team knows the value of pitching...so nothing is coming easy in any ARod trade.

Don't pass the buck, but since you have I'll tell you what I think the market will bear. It won't be a top-flight pitcher from a team with money. You say you think that trade makes sense for both sides. Please explain how that makes sense for the Cubs. As you alluded to, two of their top arms struggle to stay healthy. Why does it make sense to trade a top-5 pitcher and their All-Star 3B for another position player? Sure, they get a great SS and a good compliment to D-Lee, but they create two huge holes, with one of them in the hardest position to find premier talent (SP).

ARod will either net a 2/3 pitcher and young stud position player, or an MLB ready potential future ace and a replacement. He won't get you one of the games best pitchers and an All-Star replacement.

What the hell are you talking about? Passing the buck? Since you are very critical of my trade proposal I asked you to throw an idea out there.

Do you think the Yankees are worried about how the trade works for the Cubs? The Yankees so far arent shopping A-Rod. Clubs are coming to them. They only care about what makes sense for them. I'm looking at it from the Yankees stand point.

To be honest I dont even want to trade A-Rod anymore. Like Rican said we arent going to get equal value so whats the point? His offensive numbers this year were down but it was better then most AL 3rd basemen. That tells you how great of a player he really is and I refuse to take anything less then equal value.

Hill is good but if I'm trading A-Rod I want a prospect along the lines of (I'm just throwing names out there) Homer Bailey, Scott Elbert, Chris Volstad, and Yusimero Petit. If the Yankees could it would be nice to get a younger catcher to back up Jorge. He put up a good season but the decline is likely to begin very soon.

You are defending your point as being reasonable, and if it is reasonable, it makes sense for both sides, so my request remains. Please explain how trading one of the best pitchers in the game and an All-Star caliber 3B for ARod makes sense for the Cubs.

You probably can't or don't want to, and I wouldn't blame you because no line of argument would justify that trade for the Cubs. So, my labeling you as unreasonable due to being a fan looks like it sticks. Sorry if causes you some discomfort, but you know what they say about the truth. It hurts.

It's just that fact that you haven't grasped the idea that this is the ARod you'll see time and time again. He's just going to get worse in the limelight. If I was the Yankees, thank God I'm not, I would trade ARod if a team even offered me a 2/3 slot pitcher and a good 3B. Think along the lines of Ensberg and Pettitte, maybe.

 Yeah it hurts. I'm gonna lay in bed for awhile now. You really hurt my feelings.

As I said I'm looking at it from a Yankee stand point and I would want a top flight pitcher(I would even take a top flight pitching prospect like Homer Bailey) and a replacement for A-Rod. The Cubs IMO dont have much and from a Yankee stand point those are the only 2 I would want. If the Cubs dont want to do it then so be it. From what I understand the Yankees arent desperate to get rid of him right now. As you said he is a "trancendent talent". You just dont give those away that easy.

No, you don't. But, you also don't get an All-Star replacement along with one of the game's top pitchers in a trade. That's all.

You admit you are looking at this through the eyes of a Yankee fan - read bias here - and take issue with the fact that I call you out for it? I don't get it. Why take issue with that if you are only going to admit it later?

Why would the Yankees ever do that?
I did n't say they would want to do it, but I think it is about as unlikely as an even swap of ARod for Zambrano. I would like to see them part with Hughes and ARod for Zambrano.
Posted
I would like to see them part with Hughes as well but they will never trade Hughes. He will be a cheap starter for the next 6 years for them. Those are very difficult to find.

As I said, it's no more unlikely than the Cubs parting with their ace in an even-up trade.
