Great matchup. Four solid SP and an excellent BP on both teams. Two very good defenses. Both offenses are aggressive, and while they don't scare when looking at them on paper, they seem to have the knack of stringing hits together in bunches to score. I doubt we see any 4 hours games in this series (unless they go to extra frames). This is the series I was hoping for when the ALDS was being played - I would have wanted to see the Twins with Liriano, but they just didn't have enough SP without him.

I think the Tigers will take this series in 5. I dunno I can't really see Oakland playing at the same level as Detroit in this one. Plus Detroit pitching mowed down the Yankees offence which was the scariest lineup in the majors and they have all the momentum going into this series.

I think it would be in good taste to cancel tonight's games, probably won't happen but that would probably be the best option for MLB to show that it's really just a game and to respect the Lidle family.

The mets game will probably be cancelled with all that happened in NY today and the fact that its supposed to rain

Wow this series is shocking so far Tigers are up 2-0 going back to Detroit. Could we be seeing a sweep. These guys weren't even supposed to beat the Yankees now they are only 2 wins away from being in the World Series. Can't wait for Game 3 it's going to be a good one.

Nothing would disturb Yankee fans more than the Mets winning the WS. They think they are the kings of NY and the center of the baseball universe. If the Mets displace them in their own town, they would be miserable. Let's go Mets.

Game 3 is going to be interesting. Harden is making his first start this postseason and Kenny Rogers is making his second. Don't really know what Harden is going to bring to the table but if Rogers brings what he brought againt the Yankees then the A's are in serious trouble and could be down 3-0 in this series. I'm liking the Tigers in this one just because Rogers was nasty his last start and like I said if he brings that stuff again the Tigers will be hard to beat.

Final Score:

Tigers 6, A's 2

O/U: 8.5p 8.5u 8.5u 8.5p 8.5u

kenny rogers appears very very cheap in this matchup and the total of 8.5 is usually reserved for a schilling/mussina or pedro/santana type of affair

it may snow in detroit tonite

cold bats??......

im thinking the a's show up tonite and i like this kid they got pitching.

in the battle of 2 of the 3 worst cities in america

oakland and dick hardon stick it to the former coward of the bronx and steal this game 7-4

enjoy this game oakland

you should be home by early monday in time to golf

Rogers looked good against the Yankees, Harden got lit up in a rehab start. I'll take the guy who threw shut out ball against the best offense in the post season. Detroit, 4- 2
Posted
the best offense that didnt score for 22 innings really isnt the best offense is it??

That would be because they have a group of high priced chokers.

Posted
3-0 to go up 3-0. Hey, at least the Yankee fans have something to cheer for now. There's a possibility they won't occupy the top pedestal of postseason collapses by themselves now. Go Tigs!
Posted

A's are disappointing me (again). There is no excuse for shutting down like this. None. I don't care how well Kenny Rogers has pitched he past two games, you can't tell me that he hasn't had some hitable pitches. He's good but even Kenny Rogers en fuego shouldn't be throwing 2 hit ball in the ALCS.

Both of these series are disappointing actually. The A's are doing their standard choke at the end of the season and the Cardinals were barely strong enough to drag their limp corpses into the playoffs, let alone beat the lowly Padres.

Tigers over Mets in 5 games.

How are the A's choking when the Tigers pitchers are shutting them down? Good pitching shuts down good hitting all the time. This is nothing new.

I don't think the A's ever had that great of an offense. Certainly not a great playoff offense as far as I'm concerned. When people are bragging about Frank Thomas and Jay Payton as the centerpieces of offenses I'm not too impressed. The player I like the most on the A's is Swisher, he's dangerous... but Chavez has been disappointing all year and Swisher, despite his power, hits like .250. The other thing is that the A's are supposed to have a great pitching staff too and although they have not given up tons of runs I don't trust Zito, I think Harden's arm is pretty messed up and their other starters (like Blanton or Haren) are horribly inconsistent.

Of course pitching shuts down hitting, but I'm not watching the A's lineup and just amazed that they're losing. They look like a worse team.

Granted, Detroit beat the yankees but the Yankees have no excuse either; they should definitely have scored more given their lineup.

And the same could be said for the great cardinal team in 2004 who were completely shutdown by great pitching.
