A win today coupled with Tornto loss to NY could give Boston sole posession of 2nd place, not much but its better than finishing in 3rd place. Today is set to be the return of Manny with 2 games left in the season, same token Ortiz is set to have the night off... Why I just dont know. Him playing these 2 last games arent really going to affect his vacation any.

Why is it such a big deal to you that Ortiz is taking a game off? They aren't playing after Sunday, and the guy just came off a cardiological scare. How about a little perspective?

I heard on WEEI it was Terry's decision to give him a day off, despite Ortiz's saying that he is fine to play. If it is released that Ortiz himself asked for it off then I could understand.

The point is that there is no need for Terry to rest his starters if there's an upcoming 6 month layoff

Whatever the reason, it's not like they need him because they don't need to win. Caution, even if he feels fine, seems like the best course of action IMO. At the very least, it's not anything to get upset about. Just my $0.02.

Theres no Sox baseball for 6 months, Im trying to savor these last games before we go in the long offseason with the trade rumor churing out more made up tidbits than what will actually happen. I can speak my mind

To the part in red:

Of course you can, but you don't need to turn to this every time - which you do - someone disagrees with you. You spoke your mind, I spoke mine, someone else will speak theirs, and you'll speak your's again, and round-and-round we go. It doesn't need to be pointed out, and it isn't much of a defense for your position when someone disagrees with you.

700. You need to clear out some of your PMs so I can respond to you. I got a message saying you have exceeded your storage limit.

This will be the futhest the Red Sox have finished out of first place since the finished 13 1/2 games behind the Yankees in 2001, and it will be the first time that they haven't finished in second place since 1997.

Al' date='most 90 ABs for Pedroia and he is hitting .191. Is he out of his slump? Maybe the Sox should consider getting Soriano for second base.[/quote']

And suffer with his pathetic defense. Soriano is a great talent but he is really a DH.

The starting price for Soriano is 5 years/$75 million, and it could go much forther than that. Second Base shouldnt be the team's top priority this offseason (contract that size would consume large portion that could be spent on teams biggest need... pitching). My money is on the Angels acquiring him to be their left fielder.

The Sox are liking what they see from Pedroia and are being patient. Not much rookies can bounce back from a rough start to the majors as he had. I see a kid who is showing flashes of being a great defender for the Sox infield. I see the kid stop c hoking up on his bat, looking for that tape measureHR to impress everyone (all call-ups try to do that). He has admitted to that and is now focusing on more line drive hits. I gather you dont have NESN and dont actually see the # of line drives he has hit that have been snared by web gems, including tonight where he hit this sharp liner that was snatched by Millar. I also see him making the pitcher work, doing whatever he can to try to get on base. Dusty will be the 2nd baseman of 2007

Great D didn't help this year's team very much. We have a DH. Maybe Soriano can play 1B.

Actually if they win tomorrow's game & Toronto loses, they will be in 2nd place. They can still finish tied for 2nd place with both teams winning or losing their respective games.
