Andruw Jones is waaayyy too much of a free swinger if we got him i would think that theo would flip him to the Astros like the initialy plan

That's actually a good point. For Oswalt then? I would ask for Oswalt and Lidge, perhaps throwing in Hansen or something like that.

trade manny for santana and wood, then trade for jones (this is the tough part...working out that deal) and sign aramis ramirez. sign Gonzo for 2 years til wood is ready.

youk

pedroia

papi

jones

ramirez

wmp

tek

coco

gonzo

obviously farfetched, but i truly think the FO could pull this off, and overall this is a pretty young lineup, which the FO would love...not to mention the acquisition of wood

IMO this is a third place team.

how can you say that looking solely at the lineup...with a rotation of

Schill

Beckett

Paps

Santana

Wake

(and this is w/o any FA aquisitions)

i dont think there is any way this team takes third place. this would be a much more balanced team, with a more solid lineup top to bottom

I am not sold on Ervin Santana. He reminds me too much of Ramon Ortiz when he was with the Angels. Also, he hasn't made much progress this year over last year. There are too many dead spots and question marks in the batting order. Tek is on the decline offensively. Gonzo is not in the lineup for offense. Crisp is not an offensive force. Pedroia is yet to prove that he can hit consistently at the ML level. With that many question marks and dead spots, this would be a third place team IMO without the duo of Manny and Ortiz.

First off, in this lineup I'm thinking about having Papi bat 4th as protection for Jones. Papi would be the best hitter in this lineup, whereas Manny has (theoretically) been the best hitter in this one.

Second, I proposed a lineup similar to this one earlier (except it had Manny still on it) and it was mentioned that Aramis Ramirez almost becomes overkill. I tend to agree, especially if Mike Lowell can come back AND we can make the personnel moves necessary to field a competitive team.

I'm not that excited about Ervin Santana. He looks like he'll be really good, no doubt; but I'm just not that excited about him. He's certainly not unhittable, though obviously he's very good and would be a great addition for years to come. In any case, here's my proposal:

Youk

Pedroia

Ortiz

Manny

Jones

Pena

Varitek

Lowell

Gonzo

That's a solid lineup 1-8, with a tremendous fielder at the 9 spot.

Also, its essentially the same defense we had this year, particularly on the left side of the infield where we could have 2 gold glove winners. Lowell's defense automatically improves the pitching and, honestly, I think youkilis could someday win a GG at 1B as well. He's been amazing over there.

Heres a crazy 3way deal I thought of

Redsox trade

Manny Rameriz

Craig Hansen

David Murphy

Redsox get

Lance Berkman

Ervin Santana

Scott Sheilds

Angels trade

Wood

Ervin Santana

Scott Sheilds

Angels get

Manny Rameriz

Astros trade

Lance Berkman

Astros get

Brandon Wood

Craig Hansen

David Murphy

It might have to include more player but I think its a great deal for everyone.

The Astros trade Berkman for Wood, Hansen and Murphy? I'm not sure I'm buying that. Wood is a very good player but he's in the minors and hasn't proven he can hit MLB pitching yet. Hansen has been, if nothing else, disappointing, and Murphy is like a younger gabe kaplar. I hope I'm wrong about that last one.

Its just if the Astros decide to rebuild,

Wood is a top prospect and the need a closer since Lidge sucks, However people need to relize Hansen was drafted last year he is still a prospect in my eyes.

Probley need to include some more players but could be even for all teams

any reason everyone is so eager to trade off the best right handed hitter who ever played at fenway park??

you do realize what happens to ortiz once we lose manny dont you??

he goes from 50 to 30hrs

and from 100bbs to 200bbs

and we go from perrenial contender to challenging baltimore for 3rd and 4th place

This isn't true. It all depends on who we put behind Ortiz in the order and I have yet to see anyone speculate that the lineup should take a drastic hit in the #4 spot.

For the past few years we've talked about replacing Manny with many names. I admit, I don't think those names are as good as manny, but they're not bad names. Andruw Jones or Lance Berkman or A-Rod, those are all good players who won't kill Papi's production.

The Red Sox are essentially third place team right now.

If Ramirez is traded the Sox have to get a boatload back, which is the problem:

Nobody's willing to give the Sox anything of value for Manny-- which is why he's been on the block 3 straight offseasons.

The Red Sox can win without Manny-- but they have to improve the pitching staff significantly.

Manny is a MUCH better hitter than Andruw Jones...while AJ would give Papi some support, it would not match the respect given to Manny by opposing pitchers.

If this team got Andruw Jones AND another big bat (C Lee, Aramis Ramirez) for the 4 and 5 spot I imagine the team's overall production would go up. You're right that it will be hard to reproduce what Manny gives Papi, but adding someone like A Jones, A Ramirez AND pitching help with the extra money AND adding some actual defense to LF takes the team in an equal and different direction.

Nobody WANTS to trade Manny. The guy has asked over and over and over again. The Sox are not winning now, nor do they appear to have a lock on a title next year. These boards are for discussing possibilities; trading manny is a possibility.

the 1st act of business this ownership group pulled was immediately waiving manny

hi how are ya

we're the new owners

im jon henry this is larry and tom and this is my boy theo epstein

good bye youre waived

dont let the door hit you in the ass on the way out

how would that make you feel towards the new guys??

welcome??

endeared to their commitment towards your well being??

i know ive read his repeated requests to be traded

my problem is ive never ever heard him say it himself

in fact

the only thing ive heard him say with his own words is how much he wants to play here

the boston globe does a hatchet job on this guy daily

gordon edes should be beaten with a monkey wrench till white meat pours outta his nose

of course the globe owns part of the redsox as well

thats why i stopped reading that rag

i understand the financial burder manny puts on this team

i also understand hes the best right handed hitter ive ever seen and he makes ortiz

not the other way around my friends

manny was putting up these #s when ortiz was playing behind doug meintxxxx

and i suspect manny would put these #s up anywhere on the planet

if they got a stud pitcher and a decent outfielder who can and hit for a little pwer and avg then im not against trading him

i root for the name on the front of the jersey not the back

and ive seen em come and go

outside petey i dont know of a more influential player in my lifetime and if they move him they best do it to improve the team and not dump salary as they charge 28.00 for bleacher seats and 7.00 for a f***ing beer
