Branch is too valuable. They need to get him back with the team, and quick. I wonder what we could get in return for him? Unless Brady's comfortable with the receiving core without Branch (in which case they could help themselves acquire a LB maybe?), they need to get another WR in return. I know he was just traded (or close to it), but perhaps Lelie from Atlanta?

Exactly..that's what I don't understand about this. The Patriots let Givens get away because they knew they wouldn't be able to afford to pay both Givens and Branch to come back to play. Givens is gone, so now they must do everything they can to get Branch back onto the field with them. It's ridiculous. If they weren't going to pay Branch, then why the hell did they let Givens get away? They have enough money to pay Branch, so f***ing do it. This team needs him.

They have more than enough money to spend. They have almost 20 million under the cap to spend. Just give him the damn money and get it over with. Structure it so you pay basically the entire signing bonus this year.

I have a dumb question in general about football. What the hell does "franchising" a player mean. How does it affect the cap? Does the money just not count? I b contused. :dunno:

It does, but it prevents the player from signing a large contract, in which, the team would be hit with a large signing bonus.

(Anyway, Branch should honor his contract)

Nice try Crespo...

To Franchise a player is to pay him the average of the top 5 players in the league at his position...

Thats why the Pats "Franchised" Vinateri year after year.. franchising him at a very low paid position cost them very little..

Every team needs to "Franchise " a player. League rules. Branch is dreaming if he expects to ever be franchised. Is he really the top 3 reciever in the league?

Me thinks not..

Nice question Pink hat Chewie..

Yeah, I know.

If you're a player, would you rather have a one year deal, or a multi-year contract? If you're a team would you want a one year deal, or a multi-year contract?

I don't know if players should be forced to sign a contract, when they earn free agency.

Also, teams aren't required to franchise a player.

It's not your money to spend.;)

when your 12 1/2 million under the cap like the pats are and they say they will spend to the cap then get the guy in the fold.

im sure belichek sees this as an oppurtunity to prove his system

in the meanwhile i want to choke the snot out of little jonjon kraft

as branch looks elsewhere we'll be waiting for the waiver wire castoffs just like the summer team did

the difference is we didnt have to have it this way in foxboro and with the team kicking ass like they have in the preseason

many are going to be dismissive of branch and let things lie as they may

As usual, your post lacks substance and any factual basis. Research the contract and the Pats options compared to those of Branch, and then post an intelligent response.

They know he won't get traded, that's why they're allowing this. He's looking out there now and isn't seeing anything, and this way it gives the pats a deadline so this can't just keep going.

you research the contract

i'll watch the waiver wire for a 5th wideout to replace branch.

The Bears are reportedly interested in Branch, and i think we could think about it if they were to offer a decent player from their secondary

Urlacher for Branch

No need to break the bank on Branch. He wants $8 million annually, with a massive signing bonus. He's certaintly a good WR, but an $8 million dollar one? No, not even close.

Not going to happen. In fact, not even close. As far as I've heard, the most teams are willing to part with to acquire Branch is a second round pick.

The Pats trading Branch would assure themselves they won't see the playoffs.

Are u kidding me? this is a franchise that won with troy brown, fred coleman and some other bum as the receivers in 2001. They are a very talented even without Deion Branch.

You can only take out so many bricks before a building falls. I think Branch will be the final brick.

Final brick? Take brady away then I would say it. As long as the Pats have Brady they will always be in the playoff hunt. They are a playoff team this year. Don't know if you watched any of their preseason games but they look pretty damn good.

We'll see. Call Dan Marino and ask him how much he could get done without a team. And Brady doesn't have half the talent Marino does.

Really, Dan doesn't play anymore and hasn't for quite a while. His one shot at a SB he sucked. Pittsburgh won one SB in how many years ? Not to mention, how they choked with home field advantage. Don't even try to bring up the 70's as you weren't around then. Be thankful you won in one year.
