Timlin was just on EEI...

He was quoted last night as saying the Sox havent hit while the Sox have pitched well.

Well after a good nights sleep he was back at it on the Big Show..

" Our Offense has let good pitching down"

" Pitching to Belli and Lopez is not a very good feeling"

"WMP and others need to start getting their heads in the game"

Yada... Yada...

I was just waiting for him to carve up Ortiz.. but apparently he didnt bring enough knives..

This is either the serious veteran wake up call ( No doubt G38, Tek, and Tito all let him go on this rant) that this team needs.. or it is the fatefull blow that deceminates this teams chemistry for years to come...

Posted

This is the same guy who has been ineffective as the 8th inning guy since coming back from the DL.

I heard his interview today also on eei, the excuse of the boston media editing what he said cant be used. I hope Schilling & Papi push him up against the wall to give some insight on how it really is

RIV SLugg.. I get the feeling that g38 would be the last one to bitch about Timlins comments..

And your prison shower fantasies of Papi on Timlin are a bit much.. but whatever floats your boat

Timlin isn't exactly one of the guys keeping the Sox afloat right now so he shouldn't be running his mouth. If someone on that pitching staff is going to call out the offense, it should be Schilling or Papelbon, guys who have performed well over the whole season so far.

If the remarks that Timlin made to the media have that kind of an effect on the team chemistry, then it was obviously much shakier than any of us were led to believe.

Timlin, who has always made himself available to the media, ought to reconsider this in the future. What team needs one of their players airing their dirty laundry for public consumption? At first I thought the comments made last night came out of the heat of the moment of having just lost the game. After hearing him repeat the same sentiments today on the radio I realize how out of place this was, especially coming from someone who has been inconsistent at best since the ASB.

Mike Timlin has earned the right to say what is on his mind. He is correct that we are not hitting well. He might have gone too far saying the team is pitching well because we give up 10+ hits a game.

Last night Jeremy Bonderman pitched a great game but that never stopped us before. This team doesn't score like it used to but in return plays better defense. Doesn't matter how good your defense is when the pitching allows 10 hits everytime the team takes the field.

One thing Terry Francona must stop doing....leaving relievers in for more than an inning. They can't do it....so stop doing it. It has not been successful and the team is loaded with players in the bullpen. Use them for an innings and turn the pitchers over.

Dear Mike-

I made a stupid play in the field, but I've been one of the FEW Sox consistently hitting. Know your role and shut your mouth. Oh, and get some f***ing outs in the 8th before giving up 3 or 4 hits/walks and maybe I'll listen to what you have to say.

Love,

WMP

I like what he did. He called out his team. Everyone is sucking. Everyone. I think they are dogging it a little. I think it is still too loose of a club house, and people for the most part are slacking. Everything is OK. The fans will cheer you no matter what, Tito won't call you out, nor will anyone else. This is good.

Maybe it will fire up his team.

He is calling out the underachievers. What he said is true, so why is it shocking, or wrong?

Wily should pick it up, sometimes his head isn't in the right place. There is no excuse for errors like some of the ones he has mad. I am sure Timlin is still a little upset, and it will wear off, but still...

The offense has let down good pitching. The only games they have won recently are games in which they've scored 8 or more runs. When we do get a decent outing, we don't score enough runs. The offense and pitching never click at the same time.

And I am sure Varitek makes a big difference. It is no secret. Mirabelli and Lopez would say the same thing.

This shouldn't destroy the team, unless they are a bunch of little A-rods. This team needs a fire lit under their asses.

 Mike Timlin.

I don't agree with everything he said, but I definatly agree with that. I've never seen anyone give less effort, or care less in the OF than WMP.

More ********.

Tell me, do you suffer from some sort of diaherra from the mouth, in which you criticize everyone of being careless or on steroids?

Pena, probably cared TOO MUCH about getting the out at home. He was more worried about the throw rather then the catch. That doesn't sound lackluster to me at all.

This team is flat, but to criticize the team when Timlin is pitching poorly is WAY off base.

Just one example ... In his first game in RF Pena missed a ground ball, turned around and began walking back to the ball. Coco got to the ball before him eventhough it was right behind Pena him laying against the wall.

One f***ing play? When since one example condems a player? Let's go with your logic. The following players are lackluster:

Manny Ramirez

Coco Crisp

Trot Nixon

Mark Loretta

I'm sure countless others would fill this list.

Pena isn't a great RF. But, c'mon? Just because the guy didn't think he could beat Coco Crisp to the ball, doesn't mean that he doesn't care.

(By the way, Pena's first game in RF was against the Orioles. No error was recorded, nor was a double recorded.)

Incorrect, as none of them failed to hustle after the ball.

I have no problem with a player making an error as long as he hustles after the ball and prevents anymore damage. Pena thinking he can't beat Coco to the ball means nothing. What if Coco wasn't backing him up? Then thats an ITPHR.

Do you really want a player than hangs his head in shame and shuffles his feet when he makes a mistake? I don't.

Can you provide a video clip of the error?

A limited sample, but what happened last night? Pena dropped the ball, and threw out Monroe.

The guy is not a good fielder, but he doesn't care because he hangs his head? That's reaching.

Do you even watch Sox games? That's a comment made by people who don't watch the games.

You are talking about players who put in a maximum effort.....now please....tell me Manny Ramirez is giving his maximum effort when he plays the field or runs the bases.

Willy Mo Pena worked his ass off in the time he had at CF knowing it would be a challenge. He has looked shaky trying to play the ball in the corner of Fenway but has been improving.

I can't believe you think Willy Mo Pena is the one to blame.....that's a comment made by someone who doesn't watch the games.

I was trying to say that he needs to get his head in the game, and give 100% ... I don't blame single players for losing ... we win and lose as a team.

The fact that you have to mention that he was working his ass off proves my point. And how good his glove is has nothing to do with my point.

Considering he probably wants to keep his position in the outfield when Trot Nixon comes back....I would bet he is trying his hardest.

I have another point to my Manny Ramirez (lazy player) statement. For someone who watches all the games I'm sure you can remember back when he misplayed a ball in the outfield and ended up kicking it away from Coco Crisp. Ramirez then pointed to the ball for Crisp to get it. That was followed by a misplayed fly ball by Coco Crisp which bounced toward Ramirez. He dropped it and pointed at it for Crisp to field. If thats not lazy then I don't know what is.

Lets be honest though...where would our offense be right now without Manny Ramirez or Willy Mo Pena. Live and die with these guys in the outfield because there bats are too important for our lineup.

Im glad he said something. This team has seriously sucked ass ever since that last road trip (and most of the second half). Timlin has earned the right to open his mouth, and to be accurate....he doesnt do it often. Something must really be bothering him for him to say something. Its obvious the team has been sleepwalking lately and it is now VERY CLEAR how important a .240 hitting catcher making a cool 10 mil with a C on his chest really is.

I seriously dont think I will ever doubt Variteks abilities again after this injury. He is the on field coach/leader/voice/anything.

This team needs to just f***in wake up.....because I still believe there is too much talent on the team to just go in the tank. Weve got hitters, sluggers, a little speed, bat control, on-base skills, gold gloves, 2 talented arms in the front of the rotation, a solid boomer (he appears to be regaining his old form), a solid veteran in Wake when hes back, a bullpen dog in timlin, a few fireballing youngsters, and a solid anchor at the end of the rotation. Weve also got one of the best utility guys in baseball (Cora) and a solid backup OF (Kapler) and Belli who is as good as they come in terms of backup receivers. All this and the addition of veteran bats off the bench from the right side (Lopez),left side (Hinske) and a solid glove at 1B to spell youk (Pena) who probably needs a few days off.

The talent is here, they just need to f***in wake up. Im glad Timlin said something.

He clearly stated that the pitching is holding the team together. Thats him drinking the kool-aid. If one thing he needs to call out the pitching staff more, including himself to just try & hold leads, starting rotation to go more than 6 innings, etc. etc.

Well let's face facts, since Tek went down pretty much everyone has sucked. Schilling is really the only exception. Even Papelbon has been shaky. However, Timlin is a veteran on this team, and while, yes, the pitching staff hasn't exactly been that great it is still within his place to step up and say something. He knows that the Yankees are coming to town and that if they play the way they did against the Tigers it's bye bye AL East. I think the clubhouse knows what he was trying to do, and I don't think they'll be too offended. After all, they did win the day after the comments were made...and they were actually hitting. And it was against a potential CY or ROY winner.

now timlin really looks silly especially after costing us the game last night by loading the bases and giving papelbon next to no chance of saving that game. poor paps can't get ever get himself into a good save position, looking to much into his many blown saves would be stupid because not even rivera could save more games with the kind of messes papelbon's been forced to clean.

After watching Jonathan Papelbon pitch yesturday....he should deffinitly be a starter. The reason I say that....2 innings 5 Ks. Great control and he does it on basically 2 pitches. I want him to start for us.

He had 4 days off and his velocity was way up. I would love to see him do that in the rotation. Throwing a 92 mph splitter....just filthy.
