God no. A-Rod is not even fun to watch. He is a boring athlete. I try and try to get his appeal, but he's like an uncharasmatic Jeter who makes 2x what Ortiz does. No thanks.

BTW, I'd just like to say thank you to whoever put the kibosh on that three-way trade between the Red Sox, White Sox and Rangers a couple of years ago. Remember that? It would've been A-Rod to my Sox, Ordonez to your Sox and Manny to the Rangers.

Absolutely.

A-Rod is arguably the best player in the game, who desperately needs a change of scenery. Getting out of New York which badly effects his HR numbers, and into Fenway Park would greatly boost his stats. (hink 50 HR's) Also, he'd move back to shortstop where he is much more comfortable, and among the best in the game.

Add in the mental aspects which constantly plauge A-Rod everyday. Getting out of that can only help Rodriguez. He's got to be tired of getting booed everytime he looks at a strike, or being reminded on the street that he's not Jeter. In Boston, the pressure is much lower. He won't be expected to hit 500 HR's every single AB.

Also, you got to expect the Yankees would eat a portion of the salary. The Red Sox would get rid of $20 million per year, while adding $16 million in return. It's also easier to add a outfielder, then a shortstop. They way to look at it is Carlos Lee and Alex Rodriguez, or Manny and Lugo or Gonzalez. The production is clearly superior toward the former.

It's controversial issue, but Rodriguez is clearly the better player out of the two.

OK, ready to be blasted 1,2,3.....

I understand your position, but you really think it would help those mental aspects to play in Boston? Please, we would be all over him if he didn't do 100% of what would be expected of him. He would know that if he came here and had something go wrong, there would be a bounty on his head for coming to Boston from New York and not producing and living up to expectations. Besides, I'd much rather pay Manny $20 million who has proven his success in Boston year in and year out, than pay A-Rod's salary and hold my breath.

Obviously I would take Carlos Lee and A-Rod, but who's to say a Carlos Lee would replace Manny? There are too many other paths that the Red Sox could follow. I'd rather have Manny leading the AL in assists and putting up those power numbers we all know and love than watching A-Rod try to survive in Boston.

By the way, taking your side doesn't warrant getting blasted. You put forth a sensible argument, and I can see why you'd take him.

By the way, I'm assuming he would play SS here, correct?

I'll start I guess haha....

Going from the Yankees to Boston is the kiss of death. Who was the last successful player to go directly from the Yanks to Sox and be productive? Everyone in Boston can't stand A-Rod and he is a cancer in the locker room. He is always the center piece to an organization and the Red Sox thrive on being a team oriented organization. Most of the players are leaders without an ego. I don't care what anyone really says about that...A-Rod has an ego (can't argue).

So would I trade Manny for A-Rod....under current situation I wouldn't because the batting numbers cancel out, we get screwed up with the middle infield and our defense declines. A-Rod hasn't played SS in a while and you can't expect him to play effectively (not close to Gonzo level). For some reason Manny Ramirez scares me more in a Yankee uniform than Alex Rodriguez.

If the question was: Which player would you start a baseball team with? Now we have an argument

Ramiro Mendoza, the infamous Yankee double agent whose success and production was measured by how much sucked for the Sox, and thereby helping the MFY. Other than maybe Mike Stanley, I can’t think of many.

I have to agree. Other than not playing in the shadow of Jeter, I’m not sure how it would be easier or less pressure for A-Rod in Boston. If he didn’t live up to Manny’s offensive production and Gonzo’s fielding he’d be booed just as much.

A-Rod’s problem is he needs to play ball and keep his mouth shut, and not let the media turn everything he says and does on and off the field, into a news item.

I imagine A-Rod would spit in Cashman's face (he'd probably miss though) if he asked him to waive the no trade clause for this.

I though Chicago was supposed to get Nomar, and Boston was to get A-Rod and Mags. (I could be wrong...)

That's what was supposed to happen. Seriously, I want to know who voted yes on this poll. Whoever it was, be a man and admit it. Then question why you are on a Red Sox message board site, since you are obviously not a Red Sox fan! Come on man...

First off Malone should be banned for even bringing this up. Why wouldwe need a player who maes so much money only too not hit in the clutch and throw away agmes in the feild. I used to just say a-rod sucks bc hes ont he yankees but now he really just paddes his stats in meaningless games. And to think he'de de better in a change of sceanry would help how would going to BOSTON help. He'de be booded just as bad if not worse.

Where the hell would he play anyway? I love Gonzo at shortstop, and I love Lowell at 3B for another season or 2.

Obviously this wont happen and I pray it doesnt, but what about the possibility of Arod moving to LF. He is the worst fielding 3rd baseman in baseball and i think it might be tough for him to go back to SS.

manny is the better hitter of the 2

up till last week arod had the better glove

arod is younger and still has a lot to prove for someone who already has 450 hrs and is a 1st ballot lock for cooperstown even if his career ended today

manny has a world series mvp and is the cleanup hitter on the best 3-4 tandem since mccovey and mays or maybe even even gherig and ruth

as a sox fan i dont want them to move manny and bring in arod

why mess with success

if i werent a sox fan and a man from say australia who was making an impartial decision??

i may indeed take arod

dont worry

there isnt a sox executive alive who would pull the trigger on this unless the yanks would eat 15M of arods salary

christ

i dont know if they'd trade lowell for arod these days due to the cancer the ny media is spreading in the clubhouse

First, after watching the guys on Baseball Tonight, I thought I would bring up this topic and see how people would feel about making this trade. I personally voted no. A few years ago there were many who would of said yes to this trade.

Finally, if I get banned for this thread, you should be banned for your atrocious spelling .:)

No way!! That takes away at- bats for Lugo!!
Who wants Lugo.Gonzo is excellent defensively.Lugo has clay hands.Defense is going to win us mre games. Why not pick up Kip Wells instead? We need a #5 more than we need another bat.

every Sox is saying no now, but if you asked this question in January, every Red Sox fan would probably say yes and the Yankees fans would be the ones saying no.
