David Ortiz, 2006: Two walk off homers, one two run and one three run, and a walkoff RBI single.

Ryan Zimmerman, 2006: Two walk off homers, one two run and one three run, and a walkoff RBI single.

I know Papi has more of a history of this kind of thing and likely will have more by the end of the season, but isnt it kind of cool?

Zimmerman is definitely clutch

But get this: He never started on his teenage AAU team because he was backing up a pretty good third baseman, David Wright

Clutch:

Zimmerman>Papi

Because of the enviornment, you know, and the lack of 3 playoff walkoffs and a game winning double in the playoffs means squat.

The point I was trying to make was that as Sox fans, we really need to notice that other guys besides Papi can come through in the clutch. Maybe not as often (yet? Who knows? He's only a rookie.), but that doesnt make him any less of a good clutch hitter. Its not like he has a history of failure.

yea..that was a good find. Did you read it somewhere, or come across it yourself

I always read the stats for every MLB game played every day. I obviously noticed his first walkoff shot (how could any Sox fan ignore it?). When he hit the three run walkoff against Florida I thought it was pretty cool, but then he hit the RBI single and I really got to thinking. So I thought Id point it out.

I just found out something else that's pretty weird.

Through 83 games, the Yankees and the Red Sox have allowed the same amount of runs: 399.

Ortiz has still done it consistently, and in pressure (playoffs) 4 times, counting 2003 ALDS Game 4. If Zimmerman keeps this going for a few years and playoffs (probably not on his team), we'll talk.

The whole point was to notice that he's doing this as a rookie. He hasn't had any chances in the playoffs, and he most likely won't get any considering his team, like you said. But actually, we CAN talk. Did Papi do this his rookie year? I don't think so.

Point taken, Papi did not do anything like this in his rookie seasons, or any time in Minnesota. But give me a situation where I need a homer, I'll take Papi. Zimmerman should be a great player though, I have heard defensive comparisons of Scott Rolen, and he surely has not disappointed.

You'll take Papi because of his track record. Zimmerman has no previous track record. He's a rookie. If you look at just this year, their clutch numbers look the same. Meaning they've had an equal amount of "clutch success" this season. You just want Papi because he's done all these great things in the past, and because he's on the Red Sox. Open up.
