I'm shocked. I've gone from being somewhat worried about being eliminated in the first round, to somewhat confident about making it through. Anything could happen though.

I hope the A's beat the Twins. It'd be nice, after hearing all this noise from the Twins camp, to see them not make it out of the first round.

Well if we are going to put Smith in for his defense lets also let in Keith Hernandez. He is by far the best 1st basemen I have ever saw(defensive wise).
He may have been the best that you have seen, but he certainly was not without peer. Many Yankee fans though Donnie Baseball was just as good. Isaw them both. There wasn't a big difference defensively.

Tigers and Yankees in the ALDS is gonna be a good matchup. Does anyone know where I can find the probable pitchers/rotations for each team?

With Kenny Rogers pitching today I'm not sure who they would be starting in game 1. Prior to today they were saying Rogers, Verlander, Robertson and Bonderman. The Yankee roation however is now set. Wang, Mussina, Johnson and TBD (Most likely Wright).

I don't know about the Tigers, but I know it will break down like this for the Yankees:

Game 1: Chien Ming Wang

Game 2: Mike Mussina

Game 3: Randy Johnson

Game 4: Jaret Wright / Corey Lidle

Mattingly was no sloutch but IMO Hernandez was just on another level. Off the top of my head Luis Aparicio is another player I'm sure didnt lead any of your categories.

Steve Garvey isn't a HOF. Therefore being a defensive 1B should/will never mean anything.

Aparicio was the Ozzie Smith of the 50's and 60's. He also stole more than 500 bases. Again there is no comparison when it comes to Aparicio's glovework which is why he was inducted. He also had about 2,700 hits.

Yeah but you said that Jeter shouldnt get in based on the fact he never won a batting title, HR title or an RBI title. The fact of the matter is Jeter is a MUCH MUCH MUCH better offensive player then those SS and he was/is an avarage SS while those guys were terrible offensive players but much better defensively. Jeter is also on pace to have over 3,000 hits.

Aparacio was considered an excellent offensive player. He was a force in the leadoff spot because of his base-stealing ability. I'd be willing to bet that Aparicio was the top offensive SS in most years that he played. The same cannot be said of Jeter who has been overshadowed offensively most years by Tejada, ARod, and Nomar. And there is no way that jeter compares defensively.

Yeah Aparacio's .311 OBP was key. Well Nomar crapped out as a SS. Part of being a HOF is longevity. Nomar got moved off of SS because he couldnt hack it at SS anymore. Jeter actually has a higher career OPS then Tejada. Just because you hit more HR's it doesnt make you a better player. A-Rod is one of the great players ever so if you going to keep Jeter out of the HOF because of A-Rod then so be it. The argument that Jeter shouldnt be a hall of famer is crazy and I'm done with it.

Here is the Tigers roation:

The Tigers will start Nate Robertson in Game 1 of their series against the Yankees and follow him with Justin Verlander, Kenny Rogers and Jeremy Bonderman in the rotation.

That means Rogers will get to go at home, where he has a 3.31 ERA. Robertson, who went 0-2 with a 4.60 ERA in his two starts against the Yankees this season, will be matched up against Chien-Ming Wang.

Wang vs Robertson

Mussina vs Verlander

RJ vs Rogers

TBA vs Bonderman

That game 4 is a mismatch. TBA has the Tigers beat already.

Again' date=' the era's were very different. In his era, he was the best offensive and defensive SS most years. Talk to people that watched baseball in the late 50's and the 60's. Don't be a punk ass and throw around numbers that are not relevant to his era.
Well Nomar crapped out as a SS. Part of being a HOF is longevity. Nomar got moved off of SS because he couldnt hack it at SS anymore.
I didn't say that Nomar was a HOFer. I was pointing out that throughout jeter's career he has been oversahdowed offensively from year to year. Nomar did overshadow him for a number of years. Now tejada overshadows him. I will not even mention ARod. HOFer should dominate his position. Jeter has not. How many SS's from this era should go into the Hall? Three? Four? I don't think so. He should go if he gets 3,000 hits. If not, he doesn't belong, but the Jeter groupies in the press will vote for him and his intangibles. Maybe "intangibles" will be put on the plaque. That would be embaraasing.

So RJ's starting? I didn't hear if his back was good enough to go. Hmmm...who would come out of the pen if he gets lit up early?

RJ threw a bullpen session today and he said he was ready to go.

Well, I've seen first hand how he gets geeked up for the post-season, as he did it (and very well) in his younger years here. So I assume he probably IS ready, but what kind of numbers do you expect from him? (I haven't watched much of him at all since he left Arizona) 5 IP 3 R 2 BB 7 K's???

I'm not expecting domination however he is facing a bad offensive team in Detroit. A team he is 2-0 against this season. I'm expecting a solid start. Considering hes facing Kenny Rogers he should win the game. Kenny Rogers is legendary for crapping the bed in the post season. The Yankees as a team have an over 330 BAA Rogers. I think they have like 19 career HR's against him as a team.
