burn in hell sammy. you are with the devil now.

In addition to signing Samsonov, the Habs also signed David Aebischer, aquired forward Mike Johnson from the Coyotes and sent Zednik to the Capitals.

This is a big move for the Habs, but it's putting all your eggs in one basket. Samsanov never scared me as a Bruin, and won't scare me as a Hab. Samsonov and Kovalev will be the go to guys, Johnson is a solid player that will fill a 2nd line role, but it's the Samsonov-Koivu- Kovalev show as far as I'm concerned. I see Montreal battling for 3rd place if Koivu stays healthy, they can't win without him. If he or Huet goes out for a significant time period Montreal falls with them.

Samsonov in Montreal is a non-issue to the B's.

First because the B's have their own problems to contend with and a lot of work ahead if they're going to become competetive. Second because Samsonov is flashy but is not a finisher.

To the Habs fans, I say watch Sammy trip over the blue line or face-off dot time and time again. He's not a big impact player.

According to Hockeybuzz.com last night:

Today looks like the day that the Eagle will grow Wings as Eddie Belfour and the Red Wings are very close to announcing a deal(e4)...A rumor was circulating yesterday that the reason this deal has been stalled was because the Wings were working a deal that would have sent Lang to Buffalo for Biron plus a forward. The forward was the sticking point.

The Panthers are now in talks to get Biron, and the Sabres would like Bouwmeester. The Panthers, who have cap room, may take one of the arbitration players off the Sabres hands. Word is Adam Mair could go the other way. The Panthers are also considering Aebischer as an alternative.

I see the B's hired Marc Habscheid as an "associate" coach...

This guy was selected by Hockey Canada to coach the national team, has been involved in numerous developmental programs, and reportedly is very good working with young players. My hope is that his knowledge of the young talent in Canada could assist identifying potential acquisitions...I know that's not a coaches role typically, but if the knowledge base is there, hopefully it can be tapped.

He's also worked with Lewis in the past which I think is a positive.

Just when the Islanders were building themselves back up, they knock it down by hiring Garth Snow.

They will be in the running for worst team in the East with a Hasek-less Nolan at the helm, as his career win percentage without Hasek is below .400

Here's the rumor I am hearing

Nolan met with Wang yesterday and it turned into a shouting match. Supposidly, he, LaFontaine and Snow were interested in bringing Peca back, and were not interested in Poti (can't blame them). When Peca signed with the Leafs, Smith was fired.

Not sure why that triggered the firing, but Peca did say something about the rumors to NYI were "overbown" and that there wasn't a "serious offer". from the Isles.

Wang said today that Smith didn't buy into the management concept that they were pushing.

Wang is in the race with Jimmy Dolan for worst owner in sports. Thank God I'm not an Islander fan.

The Rangers traded fan favorite Dominic Moore to Nashville today for 25 year old RW Adam Hall. Nashville then spun Moore off to Pittsburgh for a third round pick. Moore was a hard working penalty kill specialist and the Garden will miss him. Hall is a physical presence in front of the net, something the Blueshirts lacked last season.

Something tells me the Rags are going to make another relatively big move before Opening Night.

Well, the Sabres are bringing all but 1 player back who went to Arbitration but JP Dumont (arbitrator awarded him $2.9 million for 1 year, which is wayyy too much).

9 of the 11 were signed to multi-year deals also, this team will contend for years to come.

Sabres walk away from Dumont's award

8.8.2006 : SabresFans

The Buffalo Sabres have walked away from J.P. Dumont's arbitration award (1 year, $2.9 million). By doing so the Sabres have made Dumont an unrestricted free agent. The move was obviously done to conserve room under the salary cap to sign goalie Ryan Miller and defenseman Dmitri Kalinin. GM Darcy Regier stated that the Sabres made Dumont a contract offer immediately after walking away from Dumont's arbitration award. Regier expects Dumont to shop himself in the market but stated clearly the Sabres would like to have him back if possible. The Sabres tried to trade Dumont and spoke to every team in the NHL but Regier said every trade offer had players coming back to Buffalo. In some cases the players coming back weren't fits for the Sabres, in other cases the cost of those players was prohibitive. Regier hopes to have both Kalinin and Miller signed this week and that would seem to be his next focus.

Sorry, again this is only in french at this point from RDS.

Basically Dumont says that he would like to return to his hometown of Montreal. He also says that he was somewhat surprised at not being picked up by Buffalo as he fully expected a contract offer after the arbitration ruling, but he understands that teams will be faced with these type of decisions.

The article also says that Montreal are already at $43.3 million of the max $44 million.

Personally, my opinion is that $600K a year would be a bitter pill for him to swallow, unless they free up some cap room for him, especially since the arbitrator awarded him $2.9 million. I don't see it happening. Gainey is too smart to back himself into a corner.

DiPietro to sign 15-year deal worth 67.5M

The deal is believed to be the longest in NHL history and second only in major North American pro sports to the $25-million, 25-year deal Magic Johnson signed with the NBA Lakers in 1981.

Haha i guess that was a good deal back then ....1 million/year

I'm really surprised that Islanders fans are taking this so well. Most of the reactions I've seen have been positive and see it as a good thing actually. If he becomes an elite goalie it may not be so bad and with the way it's going he'd probably get a 1 year $27 million deal when he's up for arbitration.

Still, you don't give players 10 and 15 year contracts.

Posted

Just to add on this DP deal: the sabres just resigned miller for 3 more years last week.

What would this insane contract have done to Ryan Miller's negotiations? Certainly one could argue that Miller is a more established, productive goalie at this point in his career, and he's not seeing 4.25 million per year, especially not over 15 years.

I'm not saying that Miller would have demanded a 10 year contract...as I don't think any player could honestly, with a straight face, request a similar situation to the one DiPietro now has. However, he might have valued himself in the 4 million range...

It's an absolutely absurd deal and I would hope the NHL would try to weigh in on this. A tremendous slap in the face to everything the lockout/new CBA tried to fix. What a bunch of jerks...
