Montreal embarrassed itself. Rioting, shops looted .... over a second round victory. Idiots. I was ashamed of Boston when they went nuts after the first SuperBowl championship but at least that was a championship.

Happy is jumping up and down going WOO HOO and making this face :harhar: and this one

Rioting, looting, causing property damage and physical damage to others proves you're a moron and this is your thoughtful look  or this :o

You do not celebrate by rioting unless you have a congenital defect.

I know it's easy for everyone who doesn't live here to paint the people of this city with one brush but the people who vandalize and loot aren't hockey fans. They wait for opportunities where large amounts of people gather in the streets to celebrate to inflict their stupidity on the city.

the rioting and looting has little to do with real habs fans' date=' just criminal opportunists[/quote']

oh ok... so their just dressed up in montreal gear from head to toe to blend in with the REAL montreal fans

From the Montreal Gazette article:

Montreal police assistant director Denis Desroches said it’s a fact true fans don’t wreak the havoc. In the last episode of post-hockey looting in 2008, there were three distinct groups on the street after the game, much the same mix as last night, he said.

The vast majority were happy fans, a smaller percentage were anarchists who just wanted to make a statement against authority, and last but not least, a very small number of organized criminals.

“Not to be confused with organized crime, these are individuals who view the crowd scene as an opportunity to loot and steal while the police are busy,” Desroches said.

Many of those caught on tape Wednesday night came prepared with knapsacks to carry their loot, hoodies and scarves to mask their faces and bricks or hammers to smash windows.

“Others say: ‘Hey, he’s getting a shirt, I want one, too,’ ” Lemay said of those participants who were simply carried away.

So yea, there are a few normal hockey fans who are still around who see a smashed open Foot Locker and, against their better judgement, go in and take stuff while the police are busy defending themselves against stuff being thrown at them. But it's very clearly understood in this city who the ones are that start riots.

.... and I'm sure it was the same in Boston when the riot happened. No one thought they were "real" fans. It was just anarchists and criminals not just out of control fans. No, of course not.

the thing is just about every adolescent in Montreal owns a habs jersey, hockey is such a big deal that everyone gets a sweater for christmas birthday and most wear them all year round

so stands to reason if i am a petty crim wishing to exploit a situation is not hard to merge with the crowd

Posted

also stands to reason that drunk, obsessed fans get out of control. I doubt it was fans that looted but we've all seen "fans" that start fires, over-turn vehicles, smash windows and signs, pull down poles......

Alcohol and hysteria are an unpleasant combo.. add college age into it.......

A Habs beat writer wrote on Twitter that he saw two Flyers fans yell at a Habs TV guy, "Go home you f***ing French-Canadian!". The two fans were wearing Daniel Bri?re and Simon Gagn? jerseys...
