Verlander and Zumaya are nasty. I definitely see them wearing yankee pinstripes before they are done...

Detroit has money and is willing to spend it. I can see the better of them getting an extension into to his early-to-mid 30's before he hits the market. Of course, the Yankees will get whoever it is right as he is exiting his prime. Some things never change.

Hmm, Thats a toss-up if i'm a Sox fan. I'm always oe who prefers to have homegrown talent, but Verlander is a hell of a pitcher and should definately become something great. Don't know TOO much about Zumya, very little, actually.

IMO thatd be a pointless trade. Basically swapping 2 prospects who are breaking into the league and 2 prospects who are up and coming and should make the majors by next year.

I also kind of like this guy named Papelbon.

I think some trades should be considered homegrown talent. It took development from within the system to get players good enough to trade away, thus the system produced the player traded for. The only time I don't think it really counts is obvious salary dump situations like the Schilling and RJ trades. Those are essentially FA signings, IMO.

Verlander's upside is way higher than Papelbon's. He can regularly touch 98 mph, and get it up as high as 101 mph. Zumaya throws just as hard as Verlander, except he, already, has one of the nastiest breaking balls in all of baseball.

I don't necessarily worry how hard a player throws....there are some guys who have a cannon but aren't that great. I just want players who hit there spots and make the pitches to get outs.

I can understand Justin Verlanders upside but.....Jonathan Papelbon is pretty incredible in the bullpen. I couldn't imagine he could keep this up for the year. Eventually he will give up a run and blow a save....then again he might not.

Meanwhile Craig Hansen has a fastball that hits 98mph with a nasty breaking slider. In the end if the players stay on there current teams, Papelbon and Hansen will probably have better careers because they are on the Red Sox.

its close, but id take Zumya and Verlander. Unlike Hansen and Papelbon, Zumya and Verlander have both pitched good this year. Papelbon's obviously pitched great this year, but hansen has yet to pitch in the mlb so far. Verlander and Zumya also are younger and have more upside potential.

I unforuneatly do not know about either player on the tigers mentioned.

Anyone want to explain?

wow.....

the tigers would never make that trade.

I don't understand this upside potential??

As far as I'm concerned....Jonathan Papelbon is currently the best closer in the game and isn't showing signs of slowing down. As for Craig Hansen....he's been on the Red Sox for just over half a season. I like Verlander and Zumaya.....but I really like our guys too.

tigers arent going to ever do that

if they have a kid who is throwing 100 miles an hour, they arent giving him up.

I think this thread has gone beyond a possible trade....it was never going to happen in the beginning but this is more of a comparison between prospects. The nice thing is we have Jon Lester as well.....Tigers don't have that.

They just demoted a lefty pitcher who was supposed to be nasty. He wasnt ready though....

Baseball Analyists top 75 prospects before the year started...

Zumya was 23

Papelbon was 22

Lester was 14

Verlander was 13

Hansen was 50

this thread needs to be closed. i watched the tigers game today. granted it was against the royals but the kid was in control. CG 3 hitter, 7k's and only one BB given up. his control is fantastic, he blew batters away.
