This guy has barely seen the field this year, bascially because Youk is hitting the s*** out of the ball, and is playing great defense, we basically have no use for a defensive replacment anymore, who cant hit much at all. I say Bring up Choi for power off the bench, and trade Snow somewhere where he will get a little more Playing time

DFA him' date=' call up Hee-Seop Choi.[/quote']

Agreed.....whats the point anymore. Kevin Youkilis is a fantastic baseball player who does everything well. JT Snow won't see any time and at least Hee Seop Choi can be a lefty pinch hitter off the bench. When Crisp comes back....think of who is coming off the bench:

Left handed pinch hitter: Hee Seop Choi

Right handed pinch hitter: Willy Mo Pena

....our team wouldn't miss a beat with these guys giving the regulars a day off. Let me tell you I would love to see it cause I hate the games where everyone gets a day off and our lineup includes: Mirabelli, Cora, Mohr, and Harris.

Because Zito isn't the Zito we used to know. f*** Zito. I'd rather give Lester a chance in the rotation before sending Trot away.

Agreed...Zito has always been sort of overrated in my eyes. We don't need him.

I know it won't happen' date=' but what about trading Trot Nixon in a package for Zito or some other pitcher of a lesser status, because Wily Mo has been sick in the lineup.[/quote']

First off, I don't think Billy Beane would make that deal based on Nixon's health issues and the fact this is his contract year. He will look to add young talent if anything for Zito. Same thing goes with the Marlins and Dontrelle Willis. I suppose it would be possible to discuss Jason Schmidt with the Giants but....why?

Right now our rotation is solid....and I don't mean solid in a sense that everyone is awesome. The Red Sox have to wait and see what David Wells can produce this season. Matt Clement is under contract so we have nowhere to put him, trade him, and no point to releasing him. All signs point to us living and dieing by him but again I stress if Wells comes back....Clement is a pretty good #5 starter.

If health issues arise later this year (very possible considering the age in the rotation) then I would expect the Red Sox to evaluate the farm talent first to decide if they can contribute. If not THEN I would say Theo Epstein would explore trades of that nature but....I think thats a long shot.

anyone remember bill buckner?

before we go and trade a late inning defensive replacement with a bit of power from the left hand side i would like to see what we're getting in return

sure youk has been fabulous, better than expected here

but i like depth and snow brings depth,a great glove and years of on the job experience

First off, There isnt much of a change when putting Snow in the latter innings instead of Youk. Thats why his playing has decreased since the season began. Its not like Millar is starting over there at first. There is no need for a defensive replacement.

Responding to the Nixon-for Zito

Why? Nixon has been a one of our most consistant hitters all season long, Zito is way to inconsistant for me. I saw sign Clemens and Put Lester or Hansen in Clements spot.

I would rather keep Snow just in case of an "God forbid" injury to Youk.

Regarding the Nixon issue, why would we trade one of our best hitters, who plays a great RF especially in Fenway--for a guy who is a shell of his former self. I know Pena is playing great, but he's been playing great in center--not in right! Let's not forget his RF issues earlier this year. I feel a whole lot more comfortable with Trot in right!B)

Totally different situation, and Bill Buckner was one of the best defensive first baseman ever to play the game. I think all time he is like 5th or 6th in fielding percentage.

JT Snow is useless to us and I would like to see Choi in the bigs, might as well DFA him.

Because Nixon for Zito goes againt EVERYTHING Billy Beane believes in. Nixon is 1. getitng older and 2. In a contract year, it makes no sense for the A's to do that trade. Better question, why trade Nixon at all when he's hitting the cover off the ball?

is that right??

so you wouldve had him on the field that nite in flushing??

jt snow has a fist full of gold gloves, decent power from the left side and is a veteran influence on a team that has a lot of young strangers who havent been together that long.

if lowell or youk go down you want snow on the team

injuries are a fact of life in this league and we're only into week 6 of kevin youks full time gig at 1st base...

heep sop choi??

didnt la cut him?

when the nl west deems you expendable its about over for your career

has anyone seen Choi play before? He has the longest swing on record and is easily chewed up by anyone who will throw him a fastball. He will make the former wily mo look like he was tony gwynn. There is a reason why nobody in baseball wanted him, he is horrible. At least with snow you have a solid defensive player and a good bat from the left hand side....

So youre comparing Kevin Youkilis, a good fielding first baseman, who is young with no history of bum knees.....to Bill Buckner and suggesting that the much older Snow is a better defensive reaplcement?

So Kevin Youkilis is going to make a catastrophic error in the playoffs and cost the Sox the series because Youk is having knee problems and couldnt get over to the ball fast enough while concentrating on the ball?

I dont see the comparison. First of all, Buckner was a good fielding first baseman. Second of all he should have been taken out of that game because he had bum knees and could barely walk. I dont see the comparison with the young, slick fielding Kevin Youkilis. The reason why we carried Mccarty and Mientkawicz was because of Kevin Millar and his inability to play 1B. We now have a 1B capable of playing 9 innings and hitting both lefties and righties. There is no logner a need for a backup firstbaseman.

....and JT Snow does not provide you with any power from the left side, and is a poor pinch hitting option since he was never regarded as an offensive player anyway.

Posted

so you want to carry only 1 1stbasemen,a rookie who has been on the job for exactly 6 weeks and not carry a backup?

and then replace jt on the roster with???

heep sop choi??

jt snow is a good ball player, hes also cheap and hes got a fist full of gold gloves

youk is fine

again i ask you what happens if youk or lowell get hurt?

i can almost guarantee will happen over the course of 162 game season, even for a week

and when it does?

it'll still be worth carrying snow on this team

youk has impressed, for sure but depth at these positions is needed

Posted

1.Youk is not a rookie.

2. Replace with a good pinch hitting option. Not Choi, I dont like Choi.

3. Bernie Williams won a gold glove too. Did Snow win one last year? no, the year before? no. It doesnt matter what Snow did 6 years ago.

3. If Youk gets hurt? I hope they land someone better than Snow, If Lowell gets hurt? Im pretty sure Cora can play 3B and leave Youk at 1B.

4. Why is it worth carrying Snow? He doesnt play, at all...not even defense anymore. Tito doesnt have any rotation for him to play...and he has disappeared since the first week of the season.

Good luck with that one. Beane would never make a deal like that unless he got some good young meat in the deal. And I dont think he would look favorably upon Trot's contract.

And I agree with you guys, Might as well try to send J.T. packing for a reliever or something and call up Choi. He can play a decent 1B and hits for power. Especially if you can trade Seanez and Snow, for example for a reliever better than Seanez. Although, this plan would have to wait until June 15, both were Free Agents.

I don't want Barry Zito, and I don't understand why everyone is so insistent on trading Nixon. He plays a decnt RF in Fenway (not easy), he's hitting .300 and he's one of the more patient batters we have. I say keep him til the end of the year unless he becomes involved in a package to fill a bigger need.

Trading Nixon for Zito (a) won't work with Beane, and (B) isn't a very good trade from the Sox's standpoint either. Takes away the outfield depth we have. And also, as good as WMP has been lately, we need to remember he struggled mightily in RF at the start of the year.

Re-signing Nixon at the end of the year is one thing, but we don't have to trade Nixon.

They can waive the FA trading deadline, and both would probably do it given their playing time at this point.

Ok I'm not going to try and turn this into a "was it Buckners fault?" debate but I personally believe Mookie would have beat it out even if he had fielded it cleanly because Stanle wsn't moving to cover the bag. Bottom line is Youkilis and Buckner are two COMPLETELY situations, Apples and Oranges.

JT Snow originally hails from Long Beach, California. He went to college at Arizona and currently resides in San Mateo, California.

Snow was originally drafted in the fifth round in 1989 by the New York Yankees! He made his pro debut with rookie-level Oneonta, where he hit .292 with 8 homers and 51 RBI in 73 games.

In 1992, Snow was selected International League MVP and Rookie of the Year!, batting .313 with 15 homers and 79 RBI in 135 games for Triple-A Columbus. Snow was the first player to win both awards in the same season since Randy Milligan! in 1987.

Snow saw his first major league action in 1994 with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. On July 18th of that year, he hit his first career grand slam off Boston's Tim VanEgmond!

After the 1996 season, Snow was traded to the San Francisco Giants, where he won his third Gold Glove, and first in the National League. Snow won Gold Gloves in each of his first four seasons! with the Giants.

Snow has spent time in the Yankees, Angels, Giants and Red Sox organizations. Snow is a lifetime .268 hitter with 189! career home runs. He only needs eleven more homore runs to reach 200 career home runs.

Buckner was playing on bionic knees at the time, he didnt belong in the game, but hey no prob...

i wont get too emotional over the backup 1st baseman whether it be snow or choi or ortiz for that matter but i'd prefer snows stick in the lineup over alex cora and i prefer his glove over youks

again

i dont really give a fiddlers f***

WEEI has reported from the Hartford Courant that JT Snow has requested a trade and the Red Sox are trying accomdate him.

At least he is being a good guy about it. From an article I read he understands why he isn't being played. I don't think we can get much for him but I like the idea of giving Choi some at-bats in the majors. He is still pretty young.

I am not saying that papi should play in the field on a regular basis. However with that said what about just using him in case something happens during a game (injury ect...) and then if we need to we bring up choi. At least that way if frees up the dead roster spot that snow has been using!

I agree.Trots doing really well so far this season. I don't understand why so many people are on him.
