Im for Choi being called up. I supported the Jt Snow signing at first, that being because I didnt realize how great Youk would be, so that was a perfect spot for Snow to have. However... Choi's bat is more lethal to have as a lefty pinch hitter. He also supplies equal if not better defense than Snow does right now.

Snow requests trade

May 18 - J.T. Snow realizes the only way he's going to play more is with another team, the Hartford Courant reports. The Red Sox are looking to help him out by attempting to trade him.

Snow signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Red Sox, figuring he would get about 300 at-bats splitting time with Kevin Youkilis at first base and as an occasional defensive replacement. As it stands now, Snow, who has had between 330 and 367 at-bats the past three seasons, might not get 100.

"J.T.'s the ultimate professional," agent Dan Horwits told the newspaper. "He realizes the guys playing in front of him are doing great. If he was playing more, he wouldn't have a problem. But the fact is, he's not playing at all."

For Snow, 38, the best-case scenario would be to get traded to a contender. He spent the previous nine years in San Francisco but doesn't have a preference as far as remaining in the American League or going back to the National League. "He enjoys playing the game and he's not playing," said Horwits. "Hopefully, he can go to a team that's contending and it works out for the Red Sox as well."

Snow is useless with Youk playing so well. Trade him and bring up Choi as a pinch-hitter.

Trade Snow for a lefty reliever or late-inning pinch runner

so you want to carry only 1 1stbasemen,a rookie who has been on the job for exactly 6 weeks and not carry a backup?

and then replace jt on the roster with???

heep sop choi??

jt snow is a good ball player, hes also cheap and hes got a fist full of gold gloves

youk is fine

again i ask you what happens if youk or lowell get hurt?

i can almost guarantee will happen over the course of 162 game season, even for a week

and when it does?

it'll still be worth carrying snow on this team

youk has impressed, for sure but depth at these positions is needed

Depth?

Youk was a third baseman pretty much all of his Minor League Career. No one (except me, heh) thought he would do anything more than a half-decent job at first base. Most people figured JT would be playing two or three games a week.

Now Youkilis is batting .310 with 21 RBI and is among the top ten in OBP and pitches per at bat, as well as making Gold Glove plays at first.

Defensively, Youk has had 150+ career chances to make an error at first and HAS NOT MADE ONE YET.

Hee-Sop Choi is a better offensive pinch-hit option than JT Snow, a notoriously mediocre hitter. If Youk does get hurt for a week, then we have Hee-Sop Choi, who is decent enough offensively to figure in a game, and good enough defensively (a la Doug Mientinddfgdwicz) to not be a liability. If LOWELL gets hurt for a week, then Youk can take third and Choi can take first with the same results, as Youk can play third just as well as hes been playing first.

JT Snow can do the exact same thing as Choi, except hes a liability at the plate. He may have six Gold Gloves, but six Gold Gloves arent really nessecary for a player in the position that JT or Hee-Sop are here for. Send JT where he can get the playing time he deserves.

how bout a lefty, late innning reliver beckett95

thats what i would prefer in a trade with Snow, but if theres no one available, id look into a late-inning pinch runner to take over for Harris

their aren't to many teams looking for a 1st baseman, but here are a few possibilities

Will Ohman or Scott Eyre from the Cubs (maybe Jerry Hairston Jr.)

Rheal Chormier or Aaron Fultz from the Phils

and heres an interesting one, Alan Embree from the Padres

Rheal Cormier from the Phils? That's not happening. He's having a good year, and with Howard at 1B they have basically no use for an aging JT Snow.

Keep Embree as far away from Boston as possible as well.

y'all seem to think theres a big calling for 40 year old 1st basemen

choi has a swing like the guy from pawtucket who hit 35 hrs there last year

remember him??

me neither

remember rick lancelotti and izzy ""Kung fu fightin"" alcantara??

i do

they swung like choi......

in the major leagues snow is a better fielder and hitter than our little yellow friend who got cut by the dodgers

There wont be muich value for a JT Snow in trade value. I think in the end, he will be put on waivers and picked up by a team like the Cubs, or the Yanks.

Snow is completely useless on this team. He's not better defensively than Youk at this point so why is he on the team? To pinch hit with that amazing average this year? When he did come in as a defensive replacement for Ortiz the other day he made the team's first error in a while. DFA Snow for all I care but Choi is better for the team since he can at least pinch hit for AGonz at the end of games unlike Snow who has about the same chance as AGonz of getting on base (none).

the cubs need a 1st basemen

they had chow mein and cut him

what in Gods name gives anyone the idea that choi can hit when banjo hitting suck clubs like la and chicago gave him up for nothing??

Snow is definitely headed West. SF wants him, so I think we should give up a young prospect other than Lester or Hansen and see what that will get us. If the Giants get too far out of contention, they could go Mini-Marlins. As for Choi, package him in somewhere, he is useless, he cant even come in for Francona in his 8th inning defensive changes
