Ain't Kharma a bitch? Now I am not saying that it is 100% impossible for the Yankees to do so..but to make a prediction like that in Spring Training was just ..well, George being George. Now he gets hit with a couple of gut-punches-- with Matsui and Sheffield going down, and I can see him getting desperate. Sure the Yankees are saying they will wait and see.. But seriously, how long do you think they will wait? Steinbrenner has WAY too much invested in the immediate success of this franchise to watch the likes of Melky Cabrera and Bubba Crosby playing vital roles in the final outcome of this season.

I hope they do trade for Aubrey Huff. I would love to see the negotiations between the totally DELUSIONAL D-Ray front office and Cashbrenner! Knowing they wanted Lester and Hanley Ramirez for Julio Lugo is evidence enough for me that the Yankees would be parting with some sort of Hughes/Duncan/or Wang package that would force the Yankees into having to continue signing terrible FA pitchers like Wright/Brown/and Pavano.

Ahhh...good times...good times..

Because Huff can play the OF..

And please don't bring this up. I understand you're saying that it's not impossible for them to still win, but to bring it up after only one month is setting yourself for a foot-in-mouth situation.

Right..but unlike SIAS..I am not GUARANTEEING anything. Just pointing out some interesting situations that are made MORE intriguing due to the fact that Steinbrenner made such brazen pre-season comments. I just love when people make idiotic statements like that knowing full well all of the variables that have to come together to win a World Championship.

I agree---it's not like it's nearing the end of september and this is happening. The yanks will go out and do something soon though---becuase i don't think hideki is in for a short rehab, he may be gone for the year!

Aubrey Huff is a 1B, 3B, LF, RF.....all of which below average. He is a glorified DH, someone who should be a DH on a good team, but has to dawn the leather for bad ones with other people who cannot play in the field (Johnny Gomes). If they thought they were having nightmares about Matsui, Bernie, or Melky in the OF, wait till they get a load of this stone hand garbage. Not to mention he hit .261 with a .321 OBP last season and is hitting a cool .156 with 0 homers since returning from the DL this season. Pick your poison because TB will rape the Yankees FO for prospects considering they wanted God for Lugo during this previous offseason.

As for Torri Hunter or Shannon Stewart (both of MIN), while they are unlikely to make the playoffs because of Chicago, and the fact that the Wildcard will most likely come from the east, I doubt they deal either one till the all-star break when multiple teams will be calling them looking to deal so it ensures that they are getting the best possible deal for either one.

Yea, I wish he said "We will lose in the ALDS to the Angels again 3 games to 1" also....

ahh man, Our owner had high hopes of a succsessful season, what a pity

If you think it would take Hughes/Duncan, etc. to get Huff than you are out of your mind. We're not that desperate. Plus, why is everybody of the belief that us playing a kid out in the outfield is a bad thing. We didi t with Cano last year and it worked out pretty well. Same with Jeter in '96. When Sheffield comes back at the end of the month we'll be fine with Melky/Crosby.

Because not everybody is Derek Jeter or Robinson Cano. There is a very small percentage of youngsters who join the big club and do well. Not saying that they cant, but there is definately more probability that they will fail than succeed.

If Sheffield were out for 2 months or more then I would endorse getting another OF but I heard Cashman on the radio today and he made it sound like Sheff will be back in 2 weeks so they can survive with Melky and Bubba for now.

NHS, you are a total moron. Seriously, RSN blasts the yankees for spending, now we are getting blasted for using our minor league system. Solid work son!!!

Cabrera is a 21 yr old switch hitting OF prospect who was hitting .385 in AAA. We know the deal with him, good bat, good speed, no glove. So far he is 3 for 6 in parts of 3 games and he has impressed with his ability to work a count. His AB vs Schilling when he was down 0-2 and worked a walk was a veteran move. He looks more comfortable here this yr, but Joe is doing it right. He is easing him in, playing him until the late innings and replacing him in the OF. The kid has flown under the radar of most scouts, but when you watch him, you know he's a hitter (you also know he is NOT a fielder).

Also, the only way we go after another player is if Sheffield is out for longer than May. If he drags this s*** out into June, then we'll have to find somebody. It wont be Huff, it wont be Lugo, or any Devil Ray for that matter. It will either be a major salary dump guy, like Abreu (see Olneys blog, Abreu is underachieving this yr and is due 30 mil over the next 2 yrs) or a fill in guy like Craig Wilson or a Jeromy Burnitz. Our offense will survive. As Gammons pointed out (for once I agreed), the offense is now mortal, but it is still better than 90% of the offenses in the bigs. Also, our pitching has shown that it can handle good lineups (sans the Red Sox for some reason) and can dominate poor lineups. Plus, without the comfort of knowing how solid our offense could be, mayeb our pitchers will actually pitch like the bulls that they are supposed to be. Who knows? Matsui's injury hurts a lot, but it is far from a lethal blow. We are strong on offense, if we lost a pitcher for 3 months, we'd be dead....

Pass the Kool-Aid if you think you're getting Abreu. The Phils have made a run and are contending for the division. There's no way the Phillies deal arguably their best player.

Oh btw, using Olney as a reference is sketchy at best. His Yankee homerism sickens me at times.

I dont want abreu thank you very much. We dont need another overpaid player on the team. I like the idea of building from within to heal our wounds and it will only make the organization stronger if Melky actually does the job for the next 3 months....

Not to mention the fact that the Phils just lost an OF for a little while (Rowand).

First of all..what's with the namecalling? You sound like a petulent child. What next say you? Perhaps a little "nanny-nanny-boo-boo" followed by some sintilating "I'm rubber you're glue?"

I said nothing about the Yankees spending ok chap? What I did say, is your owner is a horses ASS for GUARANTEEING a World Series Campionship in Spring Training..and he is.

Who blasted you for using your minor league system? Surely not I? What I did infer is that Melky and Bubba suck, they are nothing more than #4 or 5 outfielder types...and will probably not be counted on for the entire year if Matsui and Sheffield are out as long as some believe they will be. Melky has a higher ceiling as a hitter...but seriously, he makes Manny look like a gold glover. Either way we all know George will not stand pat.

So basically your last post was a steaming, gooey pile of s***. Your opening is misguided and has no basis..therefore everything in the body, was worthless.

Bravo sport...bravo indeed. You really need to work on your reading comprehension. I also sense alot of "RedSox" envy in your post.. Not to mention you have near 1,700 posts on a REDSOX message board. In closing, you need to stop, that last post of yours was embarassing to read.. I actually feel sorry for you.

Acording to Olney they are getting Clemens as well.. I guess Philly is just itching to help the Yankees out now that they have a team that can win the NL?

So a prospect who hit .385 in AAA as a 21 yr old is garbage and you judged that on what, his 6 at bats so far this yr (3 hits btw). You know nothing about Melky aside from the scared little 20 yr old you saw last yr. This kid is considered ready now and we will see. To say that he is not the answer is premature to say the least.....

Olney and Gammons should drop their ESPN bit and just call themselves the embedded homers of ESPN. Either way, Olney has been right here and there, but we'll see how it turns out. I dont want Abreu even if they gave him to us. It would be a logistical nightmare for our team once we get healthy and it would cause way too many headaches. We should only explore that route if we cannot do it from within.....

My comments about MELKY and Bubba are referring to what they bring to the table NOW...not 3 years down the road. Are you honestly telling me Melky has a chance to be an impact player like a Sheffield or Matsui because he was great in AAA and "worked" a walk of Schilling? We have a Melky Cabrera...he is in AAA, his name is Adam Stern...only he is light years better as an outfielder. If Manny went down, I would not be convincing myself that "HE" could fill the void.

I do appreciate what you are saying about letting them have a chance..win from within.... Unfortunately, your owners INFLATED ego will not allow him to stand by and have his season hinging on the performances of Melky and Bubba Crosby..and I think you know this. Some Yankee fans like you have seemed to grasp the concept of keeping at least "some" of your young guys..others, like George will just continue to want to replace players with High Priced, aging, hired guns from other teams.. I hope the Yankees continue this practice..it will eventually ensure their demise once Steinbrenner steps away from the team and an owner comes in and has a FIRESALE- sending them back to Mattingly's Yankees.

There you go again, shooting your mouth off. Melky is a different player than Sheffield or Matsui, and btw, we dont have to replace sheff long term like we do matsui. Melky is a guy who has potential to hit .300 and steal 20 bases. Thats it, he isnt very powerful, he will take the occasional walk, but he can be a good young major league baseball player. We arent going to find the next pujols fishing through our system, it just doesnt happen that way. We dont need to get 30HRs out of our LFer, we just need a guy who wont be dead weight in the lineup. And, btw, George will stand by and enjoy watching another young may callup shine if he continues to hit the way he has thus far....

The Yanks are not getting any big name star to help them. You need Sheffield back, and you still have plenty of offense. BAsically, they got f***ed with the Matsui injury. Their FO will not be able to compensate for that loss. Forget Clemens. Hope for Pavano and Dotel.

Just saw an update on Sheff on rotoworld. He is expected to be back within a few days of his DL activation, which will be may 21.

Do we know the extent of sheff's injury??? All i heard was a wrist injury.

He has a deep bruise on his wrist that is precluding him from swinging. That's all....

Don't forget the bruised ego from the Yankees not picking up his option. That's certainly not helping the recovery process.

Sandy Vaginitis. The only cure is to throw money at the player so they feel "respected".
