Peralta's not exactly a sleeper. In most drafts I've seen he goes by the 7th round. Ervin Santana's pretty decent, but most people know about him before the draft and wait to see how long they can go without picking him.

I got Renteria in the 19th round of my draft and the guy is absolutely tearing the cover off the ball I think he is around 10 RBI already and hitting well over .300. I guess after last year people thought he was overrated. Another sleeper I picked up was Preston Wilson, took him in the 21st round, .300, 4 HR, 7 RBI. And last but not least, one of my favorite non Red Sox Orlando Cabrera. I actually got this guy in like the 24th round, he has 2 HR, 2 SB, is hitting like .350 and scoring alot of runs.

Not sure if these guys will keep it up...but there playing good now and I got them cheap.

my god.. i would love to play fantasy baseball with some of you people.... you have no idea what a sleeper is.. damn!

sleeper picks are picks that people either don't know of or don't think will do well.

i'm in 6 leagues this year, 5 of them i was in last year and 4 of them i won and the 5th i was in 2nd. last year my sleepers were:

street, turnbow, fuentes (all were my last 3 picks)

derek lee (i took him in the 12th round)

andruw jones (my first OF picked, 6th round)

this year my sleepers were/are:

liriano (k/9 is filthy, at his age he's ahead of where santana was)

mike gonz (being molded into a closer, even if he doesn't close he'll be great for HLDS)

hermida (could show a good year)

zimmerman (not too big of a sleeper but if you pass up on 3B you can get this nice grab)

bill hall (not spectacular but a great backup, plays 2,3 and ss)

kenji jojhima (should be a top 5 catcher)

craig wilson (he's the real deal, he was being blocked for years by guys like bay etc)

oliver perez (he was god awful last year and should bounce back, a good late teen pick if he slides)

papelbon (pretty obvious he was going to close if you're a sox fan)

nick johnson (very very solid 1b, if healthy will have 30 HR year)

jose vidro (arguably the best 2b in the game)

jose guillen (contract year!!!!)

those were guys that i had picked. there were others i had on my list but either i had their position filled or they were gone. ie: mike lowell, vernon wells.

Utley '05: .291 BA, 28 HR, 105 RBI, 16 SB, .376 OBP

Vidro '03 (last year he played 140 games or more): .310 BA, 15 HR, 65 RBI, 3 SB, .397 OBP

Vidro has the edge in BA and OBP but Utley is still solid in those departments and easily a better hitter than Vidro.

Also now Vidro is a few years older than '03, and coming off injuries

like i said.. arguably.. i also listed vidro under sleeper if you didn't notice. you can go ahead and take utley before the 7th round. i'll take someone else and take vidro in the 21st round.

yeah, utley has more sb's but it's not that special, i look at it as creating outs. rbi's are not really the way to judge how good a player is. rbi's depend on who's in front of you. obp is a better factor. how is utley easily a better hitter than vidro? he has had 158 hits in a season (young career) vidro has put up a 200 hit season and a 190 hit season.

it's not like i think vidro is better by a landslide, i think he has the slight edge offensively and is definately a superior fielder. i'll go over my info later and come up with a less half assed argument.

RBI's cannot correctly judge a hitter, but we're talking about fantasy baseball here and almost every fantasy league on the planet has RBI's as a scoring category and does not have OBP.

True about the hits, but Utley is still young and is getting better every year, and Vidro, while not old, is 31 and has been taking a lot of injuries. And I can guarantee you he won't have another 190 hit season. Vidro's a better sleeper but Utley's the better fantasy producer.

you're right, we're talking about fantasy sleepers. but i wasn't saying that vidro is a better fantasy player than utley. i'm saying that vidro is a better real life player. from 2002-2004 his average VORP was 64.9, 47 and 36.9 respectively.. with an injury free season i see no reason why he can't be valued in the high 30's-mid 40's again, minus rage. he's not that old (31) and he still has great plate discipline and sees the ball well. either way, for the future i'de take utley, but for this year and next year i'de take vidro.

does anyone know utley's 2005 VORP? my 06 bp is still on the way cus i lumped it with a presale book.

so i made 2 mistakes.. oliver perez and jose guillen. perez has been absolutely terrible. was his year a fluke? don't think so. he's shown signs of dominance but just signs. guillen hasn't been doing much. it's too bad, he's not going to land garbage as a free agent.

other than that i'de say i'm f***ing great :-D. i'm in 2nd place in my 50 dollar league (50 bucks to play, winner takes all) i'm 5th in my 25 dollar league (being 16th for the first 3 weeks) and i'm 1st in all my free leagues (which i use for practice drafting).

lowell has been awsome for us, gg defence, mr doubles.

wells is an absolute monster, mvp candidate if he was in larger market

everyone else.. well, their stats speak for themselves.
