I'm hearing on EEI that there is something being talked about between the Red Sox and Marlins. Jon Lester and Delcarmen along with someone for Willis. I dunno

Alright so I already stated my concerns with getting Dontrelle Willis. However I had to consider a certain fact. I love the guys attitude. He is always smiling and he is a real competitor.....those are deffinitly the types of guys I like having. I think David Wells could be traded at basically any point in the season and if they do pull that trigger it could open the door wide open for Willis.

I'd still be nervous trading Jon Lester but then again....Dontrelle Willis is about as close to a sure thing as there is. A lefty with a successful resume and also still very young. I guess the big difference is Jon Lester may not have a chance to help us this season where Willis can walk in right away and perform.

I heard that too.....It was what people thought the Sox would need to use to get Willis. nothing of importance yet since its only rumors we are hearing about willis being traded.

Clemens is not making a move. I thought that he would have made a commitment by now. I realize that he can't sign with Houston until May 1st, but does that preclude negotiating.

As for the possibility of Dontrelle Willis for Lester and Del Carmen, I would do it in a heartbeat.

do you huys really think willis is that god? He never really finshes the season strong. Coming over to the AL will be tough with the DH. Lester is too much of a gem i think. Mabey if they took cleament ide do it

I can't say precisely WHO I'd deal for Dontrelle Willis -- but I know I'd darn sure MAKE A DEAL ASAP! Because the Sox can NOT afford to let the Evil Empire get D-Train first! And, since the Yanks need another starter more than the Sox do right now, I'm guessing the Yanks are already knocking on FLA's door!

They don't have anything the Marlins would be interested in aside from maybe phillip hughes. I don't see the Yankees trading Hughes though. I don't even know if Hughes would be enough to net Willis.

They wouldnt like Cano either? Not that I would deal him or Hughes. Hughes, Duncan and Cano would easily get the Marlins listening. That said I wouldnt do that deal anyway.

That would easily get the deal done. IDK if you remember, but in the offseason there was talk, for a brief time, of Duncan, Wang, and Cano going to Florida for Willis and Cabrera. I guess Cashman didnt want to trade the three young guns or whatever. All I know is that the deal fell apart. Well if we could possibly get Willis AND Cabrera for Duncan, Cano, and Wang then we would definately be able to get Willis in addition to possibly Cabrera (or somebody else) for Cano, Duncan, and Hughes, who many predict will be better than Wang.

You would get one not both. Take your pick.

Or better yet, Charles Manson at a vegetarian convention? Eh?

I don't know what I think about dealing Lester for Willis. I think if the deal were Lester, Delcarmen and say... Brandon Moss, I would be ok with this. I draw the line at pedroia. I heard talk show hosts today saying that the deal would be Pedroia Lester and Hansen( after june) and they seemed to be ok with this. Calm down, that is a rip off. A potential ace, with a great infielder, with a potential bullpen ace for a guy who has had one ace season along with two seasons in which he had miserable second halves. I think Willis is very very good, and I would trade Lester for him. I would not trade our entire future for one guy. I don't care if that guy is Johan Santana.

Or, Charles Manson at the premire of Sharon Tate's star, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Ooh, that was bad.

ORS, brought up the potential trade of Lester, Delcarmen, and Stern. I think the trade of Lester, Delcarmen, and Lowrie would be more appealing the Marlins. Do you think that's too much?

I'd really hate to lose another MIF to them.

EDIT: Besides, their current CF, prospect Eric Reed, isn't exactly proving himself worthy of the promotion. If that continues, they may start shopping for a cost controlled replacement, and Stern fits the bill nicely.

Lester and Pedroia is a no go for me.

Same here especially when Loretta is getting up there in age and Pedroia is just about ready to take over either at short or second.

put down the crack pipe....

who trades their team ace (not just any smuck ace either) and a mid 20's outfielder with 40+ hr power, great place discipline and who is only getting better for a 3 starter at best, a prospect and a guy who's OBP is .330????

that would be the all time most lopsided trade.

it's so absurd it's not even funny, i can't believe no one has called you out on that yet.

it fell apart because the marlins laughed at it.. stop overrating your prospects.. hughes while has good stuff still hasn't seen AAA yet. not to mention his arm is made out of glass, they pamper it like there is no tomorrow.

I've been mulling two possible trade scenarios in my head. Assuming Manny returns to his normal production, here is a July scenario I could see brewing.

Trade Scenario: Red Sox/Mets/Marlins

Mets Recieve: OF Manny Ramirez (BOS)

Marlins Recieve: SP Jon Lester (BOS), Mike Pelfry (NYM), Victor Diaz (NYM)

Red Sox Recieve: SP Dontrelle Willis (FLA), Lastings Milledge (NYM)

Potential Road Blocks: Xavier Nady continues playing well and the Mets do not need Manny, Marlins actually play well and stay in the race, Red Sox refuse to part with Jon Lester.

I only wonder if the Mets think they would be getting enough. Who knows, the Mets always want Manny.

If we traded Manny in a Marlins deal we would have to get Miguel Cabrera. Lets not under value Manny Ramirez like we did last season. He had a slow start last season that went into May and beyond I believe. He will get his production like always.

the mets would never trade their best prospect and 2 more of their prospects for manny. the mets have stated over and over that mildege is not tradable and i believe them. the trade will also completely wipe out the mets very dry farm.
