I loved him for the last few years and everything that he did. Let's face it he was the face of the franchise. Now however he is the enemy---I don't hate him, but I also don't want him to do well!

eh...no feelings really either way now.

I just hope he ends up on the DL list A LOT

and that his shoulder gives him many many problems.

Isn't hating someone and wishing them failure a little childish, granted he is a Yankee now. But, most of the posts that I've seen on here Sox fans didn't want him back anyway. Also, it didn't seem like the Sox wanted him back either. So, what I'm getting out of this

is, if Johnny Damon would have went to the Angels or the Rangers or any other team in baseball that would have been expectable, but him going to the Yankees is unexcitable.

But, I'd be willing to bet, that if Mariano Rivera decided to come to the Sox (and this is only hypothetical) that would be expectable. So what we have is a Double Standard.

Maybe if he had never said "I would never play for the Yankees" it would make a difference too. Common sense and human nature...He went to the enemy so he's though of as one of them .

I don't wish him harm...just problems with his shoulder for 7-8 months. No biggie.

I think a 4 year 40 million dollar contract is a clear indication that the Red Sox wanted him back. He just choose the money, which there's nothing wrong with.

I'm sure every Red Sox fan wanted him back, but not at that price.

As for your double standard, you'd probably hate Rivera if he pulled that on the Yankees. It's easy to deceive yourself when it you haven't seen it done.

I would be upset with RIvera, but I couldnt HATE him for everything he's done for us. I'd dislike him while he was on the Sox, but when he retired/went to another team I would love him again.

But I would never have to worry about that, Mo isnt going anywhere. Too much loyalty.

Why would I hate Rivera for pulling that on the Yankees???

Yeah, how can't you hate him, he basically backstabbed the team and it's followers. I eman yes he had many good moments here but he thinks we didn't give him respect? We treated him like a God here and made him the poster boy of our clubhouse. But if he wants to piss it all away for 3 mill a year then I say screw him.

Hating him is not "childish." Everyone is happy with what he did in Boston during his time with us, but now he is nothing more than a man full of greed. He took the money and ran to a team with half the chemistry and to a team that won't win a World Series any sooner than the Red Sox.

Show me anyone in baseball from the top down that's not in it for the money. Playing for the love of the game is an idea that's long gone.

Maybe in your eyes the love of the game is a thing of the past. Not everyone who plays feels that way.

This guy said right here it wasn't the money.

"There's no way I can go play for the Yankees, but I know the're gonna come after me hard.

It's definitly not the most important thing to go out there for the top dollar, which the Yankees are gonna offer me. It's not what I need."

-Johnny Damon 5/1/2005-

Of course most players don't have their wives leading them around on a leash either.

Rumor!

Johnny Damon has purchased a new car. Apparently it's a brand new, candy apple red, tricked out hearse. It is unclear why he has chosen a hearse, but people are speculating that it is either because he is a necrophiliac. LMAO!!!!

i don't think all players are in it just for the money either. Look at the WBC. Perfect example. If you watch it, look at the Dominican, or Cuba, or Puerto Rico. Those guys are playing, because they love the game, and their country. But Damon is in it for the money, that much is clear. Hell, all of the players that play with the Yankees are in it for the money.

You'd have to try really hard to contradict yourself more in so many words. If you are going to use the WBC as an example of how some players aren't all about the money, then you can't say Damon is all about the money since he played in it.

Personally, I agree with RSR who says, "Johnny who?"

I'm pretty sure Johnny was talking about the front office when he said he wasn't getting any respect, not the fans.

Baseball is entertainment. Entertainment is a business. The business of baseball is to generate profit for the owners of the team. The brain-trust of a team then determines how much money they want to spend on a star player. By adding a star player to a roster the first thing they look at is, "Helping the team Win" than "Name Recognition and Marketability" Johnny Damon has both. He can help you win and he's marketable. The Yankees profit-margin on merchandise alone went up just by linking Damon's name to them.

The Red Sox felt he wasn't worth $53 million over 4 years. The Yankees felt he was, the Yankees set the price and the Red Sox could have matched it if they wanted....they chose not too, (and that's bull s*** about them not knowing anything about the Yankee deal. It's their jobs to know everything concerning the Red Sox...everything and at any given time)

Capitalism is what this country is all about. If someone wants to pay you more for doing exactly the same thing your doing now, are you going to turn it down? are your family and friends going to look unfavorably upon you and wish you failure because you took a job paying more money? In a perfect world, Loyalty would rank high above money. Unfortunately, this is not a perfect world, cash talks....bull s*** walks, it's the game we all play, it's the real world.

If you think the WBC was put on for anything other then promoting the product then your sadly mistaken. If baseball truly wanted to unite the fans of all the participating country's then why weren't the games free?

Baseball could have easily picked up the tab and shown it's goodwill. Cuba wants to host a game on the next go around, will they get one? No, and it's not because of it's political standing, Cuba has no money. Right now, theres no profit in Cuba.

The money that's made during spring training goes to the team and the city where the camp is held. This is dead time for MLB. The WBC is a way for MLB to capitalize on dead time

here's where I've found my peace with Johnny Damon

thanks for your 4 years here, you'll always be remembered as a cult figure in Boston and for what you meant to the 2004 team. The hatred of your defection to the Yankees will fade over time, as they did with Wade and Rocket. I've give you an ovation when you come to town in May but after that, it's just business. You're just the lead-off guy for the Yankees wearing number 18.

that is...as long as he stops messing with our business. such as saying Manny wants out and how Manny and Papi should come to NY, etc. You're out of town now, so keep your comments out of town as well

My sentiments exactly. Outside of the clever little thing I have in my profile, I really don't hate him for leaving, and the fact that he went to the Yankees only makes me a little bit sour.

After the dust settled, all that matters is that he gave us a great ride and really broke out of a bad post-season at just the right time in 04 and went on to really become an icon out here.

Enjoy being another face in the crowd, johnny, thanks for everything. You might want to take a class or two in public speaking. I'll root for you in the WBC next year and all the best. 6 or 7 years from now you'll be remembered as a Red Sox again anyways. It was swell.
