Ozzie Guillen's Shot At A-Rod And Nomar

Another spring, another member of the Sox taking shots at Alex Rodriguez. This time, however, it isn't the Boston Red Sox; it's Chicago White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.

Guillen, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, targeted A-Rod's much-publicized back and forth standing whether to play in the World Baseball Classic for the Dominican Republic or United States.

"Alex was kissing Latino people's asses," Guillen, who's from Venezuela, said in the most recent issue of Sports Illustrated. "He knew he wasn't going to play for the Dominicans; he's not a Dominican!"

Rodriguez, who has dual citizenship in the Dominican Republic and United States, decided to play for the American squad after once saying he wasn't going to play in the WBC because choosing a team was too difficult. Guillen apparently found his wishy-washy attitude to be disingenuous.

"I hate hypocrites: He's full of [expletive]," Guillen told Sports Illustrated. "The Dominican team doesn't need his ass. It's the same with [Nomar] Garciaparra playing for Mexico. Garciaparra only knows Cancun because he went to visit."

I disagree and think Guillen wayyy over stepped his boundaries. I mean, I salute the testicular fortitude, but I've gotta say it was a little uncalled for. A-Rod was torn between where he should play. Big deal. If it were pokey reese or someone with less impact than a future hall of famer in his prime, no one would care. They're crying over missing his production. Boo Hoo. He had the oppurtunity to choose and it was a hard choice. Move on.

Well he's probably pissed because he's a Dominican. ARod wasn't raised in the DR so it is hypocritical for him to play for them. Like I'd be a little pissed if I were him too, but I agree he took it too far.

I think thats his problem, and thats why he brought up Nomar as well. Both were born in America, and shouldn't be allowed to play for anyone but America.

Same goes for everyone else IMO.

Ozzie flipped out plain and simple like he always does. He does this at least three times a year, and three times a year everyone talks about what a jerk he is and then forgets about it.

blah blah, who cares. It really isn't any skin off of anyones back who he decides to play for or what reasons. Why is Piazza playing for italy? Who cares? I'm 1/8th Ukrainian, how about I round up 24 other guys and we release our official roster. Would anyone care?

Well for anyone trying to take this tourney serious it matters. If anyone can go play for anyone then it's not really the WBC ... its just the pre-spring training tournement.

For anyone trying to take this thing serious, a-rod being on the fence about which country he belongs to is about as important as a bug hitting your windshield when your driving on the highway. It really just doesn't matter. There is no reason for Guillen to be such an ******* about it. Tell me what reason Guillen had for flipping out and tell me what flipping out does besides turn this whole WBC thing into a potential day time soap opera.

I think Ukranians would be pissed at you because I assume you were born here and raised here so it'd be hypocritical for you to join them and dissing us for not playing for the country you have lived your life in. Just liek Alex, I'd be pissed at him not only because of how he acts but also as a fellow citizen, just because he visits the DR and has a citizenship tehre doesn't mean he should slap America in the face, if he did that he should get out of here and live there.

Because Guillen has a World Series ring, he feels that he is on top of the world. Guillen: Shut up. Nomah and A-Rod are both by far better shortstops than you ever were.

that is true

Well, Nomah has to prove he's 100% ready for the season, so I'll give him a pass. The only thing I would ask is if he actually said he would play for Mexico or if he was just invited.

I am sorry you feel that way. But in an effort to promote the game worldwinde I think it's great that MLB allows players to play for countires of their ancestry. I mean, Piazza playing for Italy is HUGE for the promotion of baseball in Italia. I have no problem with it. I think there is seriously something wrong with you if you think A-Rod was being hypocritical, and just f***ing the Dominicans. I know for me personally, if I was in that position, it would be just as hard for me. I think you and Ozzie Guillen need to grow up and get over it.

arod is an american. he never should have even considered playing for the dominican. he was born here and was raised here. end of story.

And he also spent several years of his childhood in the Dominican. So it could be argued that he was raised there as well.

He flipped out? I'd hardly say he flipped out, have you ever watched any of these interviews? Usually he's sitting in the dugout, and he just lets these things out like an everyday conversation. He doesn't raise his voice and get angry at the reporters, he just says it.

You should meet him, he seriously is one of the funniest guys you'd ever meet, I swear. BTW, A-Rod is a jerk, so what's the difference?

And Ozzie is a better manager than they ever could be...what's the difference? Ozzie has always said s*** like this. Even if he didn't have a ring, he would say the same exact thing.

I agree that A-Rod should be playing for the United States since he is born there but Guillen didn't have to go as far as he did. Kind of childish on his part.

I think Ozzie might disagree with you there though. In SI, he also said that he doesn't think any mangers are good. He basically said the managers are only as good as the players they have.

They havent managed yet, so you can't say that. On the other hand, all 3 have played SS in the majors.

You're arguing with a White Sox fan here. Give up, Its like trying to convince a Red Sox fan that Schilling isnt god.

jp guys

.....but um ya..Ozzie is being a little media bitch, he wins a world series as a manager, and granted he did a fantastic job, but SHUT THE f*** UP!

Ozzie's comments, while probably a little true, weren't called for. That said, just because he speaks his mind doesn't make him a media whore. It just makes him honest.
