You couldn't tell exactly where the puck was inside of the glove, so that definetely contributed to the decision.

Yeah but when he caught it with his glove, his glove was clearly inside the net and I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to save the puck with any body part or piece of equipment over the goal line.

I think the last replay they showed right before the decision was the most revealing one. It was a front angle shot, and it shows Gerber catching it with the glove, then the glove moves over and is completely obscured by the post. That means the glove, the entire glove, was behind the line, so it doesn't matter where the puck was in the glove because the whole glove was in the goal. That is how I interpret it.

Good hard fought game by the USA. I didn't really expect them to win this game as Slovakia is a dangerous team but I thought both teams played well and were relatively even. Even if the US doesn't win for the rest of the prelims (against Sweden and Russia) I still think they can make the next round. Their competition for the last spot would be Kazakhstan and Latvia and if it goes down to goal differential I think US has them beat especially with Latvia getting killed their last 2 games. A win against either Sweden or Russia will definitely get them into the next round though.

it was a very entertaining game to watch even though the US lost. alot of action and play was up and down the ice. a very fast moving game. the US needs to cut down a bit on turnovers in their own zone as slovakia got a few chances because of those turnovers.

I missed the game, unfortunately. By all the accounts I've heard, the Swiss outplayed Canada, but the officiating didn't help Canada's cause. Sounds like a classic example of completely underestimating your opponents and giving them the confidence to play with you. Wish I could've watched.

I disagree. Canada was much better in all facets of the game in my opinion. They pretty much did everything but put the puck in the net. 2 goals were disallowed, and they had a couple pucks which were on the edge of the goal line only to have defensemen sweep them out of harm's way. Canada just took way too many penalties in the first 2 periods and the Swiss converted on their PP opportunities while Gerber saved the Swiss from the Canadians converting on their chances.

canada easily outplayed the swiss. even though they didn't score they carried the play for the entire game. two disallowed goals. they outshot the swiss 26-1 in the third period. it was just a great goaltending performance by gerber.

It was a goal, but I'm shedding no tears for the poor Canadians. The Swiss look like the only team that really wants to win this tournament. The favorites are playing bad hockey.

Could be the Finns, they're beating the Czechs 4-2 and could clinch a spot today.

I can't get over the Canada loss, How many upsets does that make for the tournament so far? 4?

USA Ties Lativa

USA Women's loses to Sweden

Canada loses to Swiss

Czech Loses to Swiss

This is great for the overall game of hockey. It gives international teams some hope for success

excuse me,canada wants this tournament more than anyone ,they will be back strong in the next game, they are just having problems adjusting to the new rules they'll be allright in the quarter finals.I wouldnt say there playing bad hockey they outplayed the swiss big time , they just have a hot goaltender that is luck is gonna run out,i dont even see them winning a medal.

Big stop by DiPietro for the US on the short-handed breakaway for Sweden. That would have been big if they scored down 2-men.

As it stands now the US has done everything but guaranteed them a spot in the quarters. They are in 4th place in Pool B with a record of 1-2-1. Latvia is in 5th place with a record of 0-3-1. The best Latvia can do is tie with the US as if Latvia beats Kazakhstan and US loses to Russia on Tuesday they will both have a record of 1-3-1. If both teams tie in the standings then the tiebreaker is goal differential. Currently the US is +1 while Latvia is -15. So the US is basically assured of winning the tiebreaker If the US beats/ties Russia or Latvia loses/ties to Kazakhstan then the US will have automatically clinched a berth in the quarters and the tiebreakers will not go in effect.

even if they make the medal round their next opponent will be either the likes of Finland or Canada and I don't think the US has what it takes to beat either of those teams. The US just doesn't have enough scoring to be a big medal threat.

Yeah definitely I'm not saying they'll get a medal. I just think they may have an opportunity to pull an upset since they played well against 2 very solid teams in Slovakia and Sweden. They'll probably play Finland in the quarters since it looks like they'll finish first in Pool A.

Hahaha, what's the matter, Canada? Can't score? :harhar: That's 2 straight shutouts!!!

But seriously, what a great D the Fins have. Let alone their goaltending.

Ouch. Looks like a lot of the figure skating pairs fell last night, and they were pretty nasty. Not to mention if one went down, she just about took her partner down too.

I beg to differ. With that roster the Canadians have, 2 straight shut outs is flat out embarrassing. So it's ok to laugh... No doot aboot it. :harhar: :harhar: :harhar:
