I dont know about you but a 2-2 record is better than a 1-2-1 record ,plus you were lucky to even tie against Latvia who hasent won a game yet ,yeah go ahead and laugh ,oh and btw we have 12 goal scored in this tournament and you have 9 if i were you id be more concerned about your team than ours

no one said the US was going to win the gold. there are a ton of good teams in this tournament and canada isn't even guaranteed to win the gold with all these good teams. right now the way canada is playing i would say they won't even medal like the US.

maybe the next time people won't just say "Give canadauh the gold" because they are overrated.

 

its got nothing to do with who is not on the teams, team Canaduh has a great team on paper and should be playing better. staal or spezza would not change anything, right now its fundamentals they lack.

 

It seems like this happens every four years, but Canadians never accept it as reality. There are other good hockey countries other than Canaduh. Finland beating Canaduh isn't like Pittsburgh upsetting Ottawa like most Canadians would like to see it as. It's more like Philly upsetting Ottawa.

 

Canaduh does not have anything to prove, no extra motivation as in the past... in 2002, they had the 50 year curse, in 2004 they had revenge for 1996. Of course the Olympics is a motivation, but everyone has that same motivation Canaduh is just lacking that something extra that carried them the last couple seasons.

Kazakhstan defeated Latvia 5-2 this morning, which officially gives USA a spot in the quarters...goal differential is now irrelevant so we could lose to Russia 21-0 and it won't matter. USA plays Finland in the medal round tomorrow.

Kazakhstan and Latvia are both below the US which would qualify the US for the Medal round. doesn't mean they will win a medal but they are in the medal round. after playing russia the US will play Finland in the quarterfinals

the matchups are set for the quarterfinals of olympic hockey tournament. whats everyones take on the matchups?

 

US vs Finland

Sweden vs Switzerland

Czech Republic vs Slovakia

Canada vs Russia

 

If the US wins they play the winner of sweden-switzerland. clearly the United States is on the easier side of the bracket but it still will not be easy.

That's right, Canaduh will be upset.

 

The Finland/ USA game will probably be low scoring, unless our goalie pinches a loaf out on the ice. I think if they play them tight and rough, and get good goaltending we will win this game. I'm waiting for that first game everything finally comes together. They always talk about how Finland plays a NA style game better than any other European team. They can handle a physical game. The US needs to be on its toes. I think we will have to play an "old" NHL style game to win but it can be accomplished. But, the odds favor Finland right now.

 

The loss of Hasek hurts the Czech's and Slovakia has looked very good so far.

 

Same with Sweden. Swiss has the most heart and determination of all the teams, but I don't think that will be enough to take them through to the semi's.

id say Canada has a good chance winning the gold,remember 4 years ago Canada had a slow start and still came back to win.Your right about one thing they dont have anything to prove, their the best in the world ,men and women

they have a very tough bracket in order to reach the gold medal game. i think the gretsky thing is hanging over the teams head and they will have a tough time getting past russia in the quarters.

the US should have just brought young NHL players. Weight, Tkachuk, Hatcher, Chelios, Modano are all past their primes and do not have the game anymore to compete with the best in the world. its not laviolette's fault he was dealt with a crappy roster to begin with.
