If he comes here and starts winning I'll still hate the guy. I don't understand it. So all this apparent hatred from our end was just a facade? Kind of like the yankees and Johnny Damon. You hate him until he starts to play for you? What kind of crap is that.

I hope to hell Clemens retires and doesn't come to Boston.

I guess everyone hates certain players and thats fine. My personal thing though is I never hated Roger Clemens. He was my favorite pitcher when he was with Boston and it broke my heart to see him go and hear the comments from Dan Douchebag. It wasn't like he pitched bad for us his last two seasons. His record wasn't great but I've always believed the pitchers record is the most overrated stat anyways. He can't control what the offense did or what the bullpen did....and at the time they all sucked.

More than anything I hate the fact we gave up on Clemens then turned around and signed Pedro Martinez. How would life have been for us had we included Clemens in future plans. A 1-2 punch of Roger Clemens and Pedro Martinez. Thats the kinda of stuff that pisses me off....the opportunity we had to win more World Series and instead we barf it up.

The Rocket and Pedro on the same team..BOOM!

Those two egos together would have never worked out.

It would have been a circus....the media would of loved

it. But, It would have been disaster for the team.

I think Roger will listen to the offer The Sox make him.

But I don't think he'll take it, Too much water under the

bridge between himself and the organization. He still has

a fan base in New England, So he can't come right out and

tell the Sox to go s*** in their hat....even if he wanted too.

He might be wearing that hat when he goes into Cooperstown.

It's politics...No matter how he feel's about Boston, Smile, Listen,

and say: No Thank You.

The game of Baseball is pretty much behind Roger now. The Hall

of Fame is what's in front of him....It's all about image now.

Yankee's or Rangers...If he play's this year at all?

I agree. What a sick rotation they have over there. The COPs (Clemens-Oswalt-Pettitte), and Backe is decent too.

Clemens will stay in Houston, although I wouldn't mind him coming here (please don't roast me for that).

And then if the Astros go and get Contreras like there has been talk of lately (unlikely though). That would be pretty impressive.

There've been a ton of articles and stories about this on TV and I saw that there wasn't really a formal thread for it. Here's a good article that explains the situation most updated.

http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2006/02/10/no_noise_on_this_rocket/

I personally would love to get him here, there's just so many pro's and would be the perfect ending to his HOF career. Hell we'd probably retire his number or like build him a statue or sumthin. Also a sstated in the article he would rub off on a rotation that most of the pitchers idolize him (Beckett, Schill) and imagine how much better Beckett can be with tutoring from the Rocket AND Schilling.

Clemens

Schilling

Beckett

Wakefield

Wells/Papelbon

That is a great rotation right there with a few HOF possibles. Then again any rotation is great when you have friggin Beckett as your 3rd starter.

Ya i totally agree that roger would make beckett much better and he'd show the young guys how to play the game right. He would be a boost for everyone and the fans would jump at the bit to see this guy pitch, espically in a sox yankees game. It would be amazing if we got clemens

Two egos that clash?? Could you imagine placing the ego of Curt Schilling and Pedro Martinez together...that would never have worked out either....

It wouldn't have made any difference because its impossible to get a whole team on the same page. In the end they both would have done damage pitching the baseball and in the end thats what matters. Almost every baseball player has (to some extent) and ego...you need it to stay confident and sharp.

if by somehow he's actually signed, any chance we could see Roger pitch batting practice to Manny? ;)

No, because Manny would get mad everytime Rog threw it over the plate ;)

He's got his World Series rings, and he's got his boatload of Cy Young trophies.

After all the years of talk about wanting to be closer to home with his family, he'd be making a royal jackass of himself by signing with Boston.

Right. And how old were you when he left Boston to make you hate him so much? Do you even remember him pitching for the Red Sox whatsoever?

whoa damn calm down, whats with the caps lock button stuck and the insult? It was a quote on a NESN broadcast recap of the Sox coming back from 3 games in the 2004 ALCS. Its my signature I have in my posts, so sorry if that somehow has botherd you.

I watched him pitch for 3 years and I distinctly remember going to a game that he pitched in. Regardless of whether or not I was analyzing his pitching mechanics at the time, why do we want a guy back who took a huge s*** all over Boston when he left?

Because he can be a big help to our rotation and young pitchers (specifically Papelbon)?

Disclaimer: not that I want him back... just answering your question.

It was hypothetical. I understand the reasoning from a baseball perspective, but why pay 20+ mil for a guy who, I can almost guarantee, feels no loyalty here?

He would be more like 15 mil...just sayin.'

Haha yeah I remember being at that game. I remember being like....Manny...chill out...it wasn't that close to your head...

But then Pedro owned Zimmer so I was a happy man.

you're sick! Only someone like Zach would get off on Pedro beating up poor, old, helpless, attacking Don Zimmer.

found this on mlbtraderumors

"With Al Nipper now assuming the duties of interim pitching coach, it brings up an interesting scenario. When he pitched for the Sox in the mid-1980s, one of his best buddies on the team was Roger Clemens. Nipper has maintained a close friendship with Clemens since he left the Red Sox in 1996. With Clemens now a free agent, could this be an incentive for a possible Clemens return to Fenway?"

Not only would this signing help beckett and papelbon, but wakefield to. Imaging being a MLB hitter facing Roger, Schilling, Beckett or Papelbon, all power pitchers then the next day facing a knuckleball. That would suck.

My rotation would be

Clemens

Wakefield

Schilling

Beckett

Papelbon
