It is set, Houston vs. Chicago. This year, like last year, baseball fans will get to see their team win the Series for the first time in their lives.

Probable Pitching Matchups:

Game 1 @ Chicago: Clemens vs. Contreras

Game 2 @ Chicago: Pettitte vs. Buehrle

Game 3 @ Houston: Oswalt vs. Garland

Game 4 @ Houston: Backe vs. Garcia

Game 5 @ Houston: Clemens vs. Contreras (IF NEC)

Game 6 @ Chicago: Pettitte vs. Buehrle (IF NEC)

Game 7 @ Chicago: Oswalt vs. Garland (IF NEC)

wow, Ozzie is starting Contreras first again?!?!?!?!. Wow i didnt know he ahd so much faith in him.

I listed those as probable starters. He's been your best pitcher in the second half and he hasn't dissappointed in the playoffs. I'd be surprised if he didn't get the ball in game one.

GO STROS!

I now look at the Chisox much like I did with the Pats after that one faitful BS call during their first SB run. I developed a strong hatred for the team, because they didn't deserve to play in the big game. I'm definatly starting to feel that hatred for the Chisox.

I hope the stros sweep.

This should be a great series. Both teams have comprable offenses and great pitching.

Ozzie went with Contreras to start the ALCS and ALDS.... seems logical that he'd also start him in the WS.

No doubt the announcers and writers will argue about the benefits/drawbacks of having full rest vs staying sharp because the White Sox will have a few extra days off. Frankly, at this point of the season I don't think that makes much of a difference.

SOMEone will be making history this October, and that will be great. Either Houston will win the first World Series EVER in their history, or the White Sox will win their first since 1917.

I like Ozzie Guillen and the White Sox style and players (except for Everett), but it wouldn't bother me to see Houston win. Craig Biggio is one player who absolutely deserves to win a World Series, and Bagwell of course although he's no longer a major contributer. Those are two guys I've always liked.

I think the White Sox have the better team (slightly), so I'll predict that they'll win....

I agree wholeheartedly. Everett is not only a jerk, he's detrimental to our offense. Imagine our potential lineup if Frank was healthy and DH...

That breaks my heart. Frank earned this as much as anyone.

Hope in one hand and crap in the other.

This is our year. Live with it.

Won't the ratings for this world series be astronomically low? I mean, the White Sox and the Astros? Is this really of any interest to casual fans outside of those two cities?

Go Astros!

Make Andy the only person in addition to Ramiro Mendoza to win 5 rings in their career with 4 of them coming during the Yankees dynasty run of the '90s, and of coarse give Roger and Vizcaino one as well. And you could also throw Mike Lamb (2004 Spring Training Yankee) and former Met Dan Wheeler in there for me to root for.

..personally I wouldnt start Roger in game 1. Torre tended to use him in Game 3 so that he would wind up pitching a Game 7, and I dont think he would be that great in a Game 1 spot. What I would do is..

Game 1: Backe

Game 2: Pettitte

Game 3: Clemens

Game 4: Oswalt

Game 5: Backe

Game 6: Pettitte

Game 7: Clemens

Why on God's green earth would you want Brandon Backe starting two games for the 'Stros when their big three can all pitch twice on normal rest?

EDIT: I mean, seriously, one of these things is not like the others.....

Clemens: 1.01 WHIP, 7.88 K/9, 2.98 K/BB, .542 OPSA, 221 ERA+

Pettitte: 1.03 WHIP, 6.92 K/9, 4.17 K/BB, .613 OPSA, 174 ERA+

Oswalt: 1.20 WHIP, 6.85 K/9, 3.83 K/BB, .688 OPSA, 141 ERA+

Backe: 1.46 WHIP, 5.85 K/9, 1.45 K/BB, .772 OPSA, 87 ERA+

So wait, yeszir:

You're going to pull for a team that has a history of cheating and has always been second best in the city over a group of classy guys, some of whom have been on the team longer than ten years waiting for a World Series title?

'Stros fans feel the same way. Live with it.

I'm pulling hard for the 'Stros also. Biggio deserves it, so does Bagwell. I feel the same way as Hammer, I have a growing hatred for the White Sox.

As for the pitching matchups, The Astros big three should all go twice on full rest. Only makes sense, but I DO see 26 to 6's point about Rocket pitching a game 7, but Oswalt is pretty damn good too wouldn't you say? And why risk only having him pitch once and losing the series?

As for the White Sox, I heard Contreras will start game 1. He should.

and who exactly cares about the astros outside of houston?

about a ridiculous park with a hill in center field, a dumb train that runs along 25 yards after a home run and a team with a history of no history?

yeah, bitterness has a tendancy to compound. it's ok, i understand. amazing how the fan of a team that broke it's own streak of losing just last year can grow so bitter and angry just a year later.

Reasons to root for the Astros:

Never won a WS before.

Never took a dive in a WS. The White Sox should be forever cursed.

Carl Everette

Roger - oh hell, he's earned it just by leaving the Spanks.

Pettitte - best non-move the Yanks ever made.

Ozzie is a dick.

The Killer B's deserve one WS win.

Carl Everette

I don't want to see the team that beat the Red Sox win anything. Ever again.

Kevin Millar is from Texas.

Sox fan in Tex is from Texas.

I like saying "Ass-tros"

"Stro's" or "Pale Ho's"???

A team from TX winning may give Joe Morgan a stroke.

I like Cub fans more.

we care...

theyre making history right now, arent they? first time in a world series of 44 year franchise history. even still astros fans have had to wait much time than white sox fans to actually see their team make it to the big games.

i'll take the astros pitching over the white sox's any day of the week

sound like there's a lot of bitterness about our SWEEP.

sorry bout that. ozzie ain't a dick- he's the best manager in baseball this year. no doubting, he's better than anyone gave him credit for, even me. he speaks his mind, doesn't care about saying only things everyone can agree with. he tells the truth and takes no crap.

don't be bitter. you guys were awesome last year. this year, you appear to have turned into haters...

and if, as you say, you like cubs fans more, then you haven't been around them long enough. try living with the arrogant yuppie haters more than a day.;)

astros' pitchers are phenomenal, no doubt. but 'taking them over the sox any day of the week' is a bit dismissive. that's ok, we're used to being the underdogs. we're used to being the best team in baseball for 95% of the year and being relegated behind overrated BoSox team highlights and overhyped, uoverrated, under-talented Skankees team.

I love Boston and Red Sox fans- i can't figure out where you guys went all bitter.

I've always hated the White Sox, and watching them win is sickening me. No new hatred.;)
