Wow, both teams totally blew it this post-season. Red Sox didn't have the pitching, and the Yankees were too inconsistent. The top 2 teams (preseason wise) both knocked out in the first round. Well, just goes to show, money can get you in the playoffs but it can't get you a championship.

Chicago vs. LA...

who saw that coming?

my team is the Angels, im not just saying that becuase white sox easily beat our boys

this is what i was wishing for, sox getting eliminated in 1st round. yanks would also have to be eliminated in 1st round as well, to lessen the burden on us sox fans

I dont think the ratings will be as high as they were the past to ALCS's. People trash te Yanks and Sox, but they provide some of the best drama, you can see in sports.

speaking as a baseball junkie, im excitied about the series and last nite's win by the halos make it hard not to root for them to overcome losing their ace. considering that both teams are almost mirror images of each other in terms of good pitching + defense + aggressive offense makes the games intense.

I agree, to get new faces in the ALCS. That said will anyone watch? I will but the casual fan who roots for the well known team wont watch.

I disagree, outside of Boston and New York, no one cares about that series. It is WAY over-hyped and it got real old, real fast. I think a change of scenary will be good. No one wants to see the same teams over and over again. Everyone begins to hate them, see the Super Bowl. Everyone is behind the Cowboys...they have a dynasty and everyone hates them. Same thing with the Patriots...people like change.

Who cares about baseball? Baseball is over now.

However for the record, go Astros.

Agreed. The playoffs aren't the playoff without these 2 teams.

I think you need to take the blinders off. The Red Sox and Yankees are #1 and #2 in road attendance respectively (and Boston #3, NY #1 in %capacity on the road), meaning this series means something across the nation, not just in Boston and New York. Yes, the media hype surrounding it borders on the obscene. That said, I'm sure FOX is s***ing britches right now. None of the four teams left cracked the top 10 in road attendance in total attendance or %capacity). This years ALCS will suffer in the ratings.

Personally, I am a baseball fan, so the season doesn't end until the champion is crowned (and once that happens, then the football season starts IMO). I think it's an interesting matchup, and I do think it is good for the overall exposure of the game. But it won't get the ratings, period. That is all.

I think you need to take the blinders off...people don't care about the Red Sox and Yankees. Why are you telling me about road attendance, you sound like a Cubs fan - here's your Attendance Award. You people think that if it wasn't for Red Sox-Yankees, there would be no baseball. Absolutely ridiculous, that series is a long bore...it was good maybe in 2003, but the media over-hyped it throughout 2004, and by the time the ALCS came around I didn't even want to watch the playoffs anymore. For the first time in a long time, I didn't watch the playoffs (after the strike). The media ruined that rivalry and it's forever tarnished, now it just sucks. One team blows out the other, the other comes back and blows them out. Same thing every series, yet it's the best thing baseball has ever seen? Excuse me while I puke.

I feel a bit of animosity here. Let me shed some light from an outside place, (and a NL town) that series people care about. They watch it, and it brings ratings. Yes its the best rivalry, get over it. Nothing comes close. Over-hyped in '04...WHAT??!? Down 3-0 to a victory, you think they will ever forget that? That makes them hate us MORE, and want to beat us more. And we don't want that happening to us, so we play hard. Blow outs happening doesn't constitue a non-rivalry. And this year is a bad reference, because in all honesty, both teams had pitching staffs that weren't what they expected. So think what you want bro, but you're wrong. This is a big series.

Here's a thought, why not try reading and comprehending my post you utter and complete dolt. I get that you don't care about the rivalry, but you aren't the rest of the country. Assuming everyone thinks like you is naive and absolutely ridiculous. The generalization "people don't care about the Red Sox and Yankees", should read, "I don't care about the Red Sox and Yankees". The numbers don't lie, people do care about this rivalry. Does that mean that an ALCS without them will suck? No, not at all. But it will generate less interest because, while baseball fans will watch regardless, the casual fan needs something between the boxscores to compell them to watch.

You didn't read my post correctly. After the '03 ALCS, the Red Sox-Yankees rivalry was over-hyped throughout the '04 season. So by the time the '04 ALCS came around, it was a terrible thing to say. I'm not saying it wasn't great for the Red Sox to come back from 3-0, but by that point I didn't even care anymore because all I heard about all season was Red Sox - Yankees. The Red Sox winning the World Series also didn't help much...now what's the rivalry all about? It used to be about the Yankees beating the Red Sox and their drought continued, now they won...*yawn*.

And what's with the hostility. You think that the Yankees and Red Sox are the best thing that ever happened to baseball, it's not. Not even close. Baseball does not revolve around these two teams. They go out and buy teams every year only to make it a battle of the two money-ball teams. Well the media seems to be trying to make the series more popular to the casual fan, because now apparantly, the White Sox are cursed. Thanks to that utter ******** that started from you guys and the Cubs. The "curse" is what made the series, now the "curse" is gone...the series is no longer a good series anymore.

You're entitled to your opinion. But, 90+ % of this board would disagree. The market draw of the Red Sox and Yanks dwarfs anything else in the major leagues. This has been true not just since 2003 but for decades. The "curse" was started by a self promoting sports writer/author in an attempt to make money. No real Red Sox fan took it seriously. However, there were many heart breaking moments over the years for Red Sox fans. As far as the White Sox goes, they've just basically sucked over the years ( nothing to get excited about ). Personally,I think the White Sox will be gone by the end of the weekend, and I doubt most of the nation will really get a damn. Now I know why its called the "windy city" .

You think that the Yankees and Red Sox are the best thing that ever happened to baseball, it's not.

Read all of my posts, and tell me where I claim this. Part of the problem in this discussion is you having a thought in your head about my opinion that isn't true and has never been stated.

You claim that the series is no longer interesting. And you are right; it is no longer interesting to you. But in your posts, you speak as if the whole country is fed up with it. Ok, provide on numerical value to support that claim. You can't.

You are entitled to your opinion, but don't claim it's everyone's opinion, and don't tell what mine is.

Never mind all the people that watch, attend and discuss the games, nobody cares about the Yankees and Boston. Give me California and Illinois!

When I referred to "you", I was referring to the fanbases of both the Yankees and Red Sox; plus ESPN because it's their lovefest. I know I'm speaking for everyone I know, that people are sick of that series. It is just a long bore now...it used to be exciting, you never knew what was coming next. Now it's too repetitive and I guarantee the casual fan has grown bored of it. The casual fan wants to see excitement, but they don't want to see repitition and that is exactly what this series has become.
