? Called out? He disagreed with me which is what this forum is all about, people giving opinions and you can like them or not, he disagreed with me, he didn't "call me out." Whatever though, lets just forget about it

disagree, called out, whatever. he stated how he didn't understand why you would want hinske or hillenbrand over youk and i told him that it was because you didn't know/understand baseball.

seriously though, why anyone would rather those 2 over youk is silly. even in his first season he put up an excellent OBP only to better that the season after (granted very limited playing time). thinking outside the box would be to keep youk and give him a chance, not trade him for 2 lesser players.

there is nothing to forget about, you called me a moron for stating something true, i'm not holding any grudges, you're the one that flipped out.

Well to be honest I think you might both be wrong. I'm not sure Hinske, Hillenbrand, or Youkilis is the answer for 1st base. I would rather see what Youkilis can do rather than the others but I'd be shocked to see Youkilis post 25+ HRs. Which for a 1B is alright but not great.

well i dont see youk playin long term first unless he excels this year but i do think he will get his shot to start there this year because ur not gonna get what he gives u unless u give him and someone else in a trade and im not sure who are the fa first basemen but ur not gonna get any of them for as cheap as youk comes plus hes payed his dues he deserves a shot

He might deserve a shot in the majors, just not with the Red Sox. Please try and use proper spelling and puncuation, its painfull reading your post.

It just isn't in the cards for Youk to stay here long term, unless he suddenly finds a power surge or becomes a dead pull hitter and tries to hit it over that wall.

why not? if he can hit over 15 hr's a season, get on base at a .380+ clip and fields well i see no reason why he can't stay for at least 4 more years. especially at league min.

If we do keep Youkilis as our starting 1b, I would much rather see him platoon with a lefty, like Adrian Gonzalez for Shoppach, I mean come on Gonzalez is a 23 year old 1st Round Pick with great talent, and all we have to do is give up a catcher that went 0-11 last year with 5 Ks, as I stated before, if we keep Youkilis, it should be a platoon position.

I think the key word here is "if".

The Gonzalez for Shoppach rumors were pre-Mirabelli trade; I don't see this happening now that the backup C is up for grabs. I think signing Huckaby to a minor-league deal means that Shopp will be given a chance with Huckaby as suckitude/injury insurance.

If you have ever wondered why so many people claim you are a bit idiotic, then this post is a prime example. Assessing Shoppach's ability on 11 ABs is completely laughable. I think his MiLB performance warrants a serious shot in the bigs, and I hope he gets it as Tek's backup this year.

Hey, who's to say that he can, there's been no proof other than the OBP that he's a solid hitter. I however think tha he can, he hit 7 HRs in 200 ABs back in 04, so double that and he projects at 15-16 HRs which is fine by me for him to stay. However, idk what management is thinking, they may question if he can hit for a whole season at the Majors, in which hes hit at a .265 average.

They may want more then that, but I agree, his OBP is enough for me, he could become a very solid 2 hitter, moving along the leadoff hitter if he gets on, or giving papi a chance at some RBIs. WHo knows, but all I'm saying is sadly chances are he might not be what we're looking for.

Well I can say this for Youkilis....it had to be hard jumping up and down between AAA and MLB last season. Not only did he handle it well but he produced great numbers in AAA. I deffinitly have doubts but I don't have a problem giving him a chance. He does deserve it. I think the closest backup option revolves around Andy Marte and Mike Lowell changing up from 3rd.

I'm curious about the state of Roberto Petagine?? Do we still have him cause I think that guy can really hit the ball with some power. Very limited action last season but the guy can produce and play solid defense. I think he is also a lefty so if we can't find someone he may be able to step up and platoon with Youkilis.

But whose a better option out there than Youk? Personally i think a Youk/Petagine platoon at first is ideal, with Youk playing some third against righties to get him more at bats. Youk and Lowell hit lefties better, Petagine hits righties better. Every time a lefty is on the mound Lowell and Youk both play, when its a righty they split 3rd.

I like guapo's idea. The team has enough corner IFs to find a suitable combination IMO. There are much bigger concerns for the coming weeks. Namely, the Manny situation, CF, and SS. If something good falls in their laps, then act on it, but I don't think they should focus any time worrying about who is on the corners at this point.

Boston Globe: The Sox continue to work on contingency plans, with the team source indicating talks with the Mariners for center fielder Jeremy Reed have intensified. The Sox have proposed trading Matt Clement for Reed; the Mariners have asked for Bronson Arroyo. The Sox have also talked with the Cleveland Guardians about switch-hitting outfielder Coco Crisp; the Guardians also would like Arroyo.

Arroyo for Crisp? Id do that

well, i think i'd prefer snow/youk over petagine. I don't mind the idea of trading youk for some bullpen help and playing lowell at first base either. that could make me happy.

andy marte in the majors.

Wow I would take both of those deals (talk Mariners into Clement). Have Jeremy Reed play CF and Coco Crisp playing RF. Meanwhile we would lose two starters but between Wells and Manny Ramirez we could probably come up with another starting pitcher and a reliever. Our defense would look much better and those two guys would probably lead off for us. I like that idea.

dirtdogs is reporting Marte and Mota for Crisp. WHAT?!??!! Am I missing something here? We would trade one of the best prospects in baseball (who actually has some power) along with potentially a dominant reliever for COCO CRISP? I'm glad I don't believe everything I read on dirtdogs...

Can someone fill me in on what coco crisp offers to a club?

dirtdog SUCKS. they are the least credible source of information. they make up crap so people will read their crappy website. they know nothing about baseball, they are the biggest hypocrites in baseball and their website layout is terrible.

the sox would NEVER trade marte and mota for crisp. at first i i thought you were taking them seriously, thank god for our last few words.

I like dirtdogs for their humorous takes on Sox related news. They basically just go whichever way the wind blows with regard to rumors and whatnot.

"The Buzz" is reporting the same thing. It is apparently contingent on whether or not the Guardians sign Nomar to play the outfield.

This is one of those proposed deals that sounds like something the sox would do; however, it is one of those deals that will come with an extra player or two that is not yet mentioned.

Nobody would do a Mota Marte for Crisp deal. Add Peralta (HA!, yeah right) or Sizemore (same thing) and it suddenly becomes a lot more tenible. I've noticed that the Sox deals tend to go that way: we hear the 3 players that are supposed to be in the deal, and then another key piece is added under the radar that makes the deal more realistic.

I don't want to see Marte go. He is supposedly a player with 40 HR potential, so why would we trade a potential Chipper Jones or Scott Rolen for Coco crisp? Why would we throw in the ONE reason we made the Beckett trade?

There is more to this than meets the ey... err... press.

his ceiling is not that high. he's more like a .300 batter, 80 bb, 30 hr power and top 10 defensive 3b in the game. seems more like an eric chavez. you just don't trade away rolen/chipper ceiling 3b, you really shouldn't trade away eric chavez 3b's either. who know's what's going on, i'll wait till it's on espn. dd SUCKS

According to Sox prospects.com he has 40 HR potential. Again, I think we're arguing a relatively minute point, but as far as i can tell nobody has put much of a ceiling on his offensive abilities. So, he could be Chavez, he could be Rolen, he could be Beltre, but in any case, Crisp is NEVER going to be one of those guys.

This rumor has no legs, as far as i can tell. The ONLY reason the sox made the beckett deal was because it included Mota if he was injured. This would be the equivalent of this trade:

Sox get: Beckett, Lowell, Crisp.

Sox lose: Hanley Ramirez, Anibel Sanchez, Andy Marte, Edgar Renteria and Guillmero Mota. (plus a year's worth of Rent's salary).

Nobody in their right mind makes that trade. Again, it seems much more realistic that the Guardians lose one of their best young players too, like Peralta or Sizemore. Otherwise the Sox had a net loss on the offseason. Coco just isn't that good.

that just isnt good enough for both marte and mota. we would have to get sizemore or Peralta to have this deal even be mentioned

i found i have a big papi rookie card and it says his name is David Arias

Agent Alan Nero said the Red Sox have inquired about free agent John Flaherty.

Flaherty began his career with Boston in 1992. "John would welcome a return to Boston," Nero said. "He's had experience catching knuckleballer Steve Sparks." Dec. 16 - 1:47 pm et
