i'm just wondering how boston blew a 4 game led? i mean we had the best offense in baseball, 2 pitchers with 15 or more wins, 2 with more than 13 and 14 wins, all our closers had 37 saves all together, not too bad....our bullpen was coming together with all the young guns down there...what happened? :thumbdown

i think it was 5.5 at one point. we played medocire ball, lost a couple of games to team's like the royals, and the yankees played motherf***ing balls (that's in honor of red seat) out baseball for the last month.

we lost a couple in new york and then they ticked off what 9 in a row...

I will refrain form "the what happend" thing though til the season s offically over--90+ wins ainty too shabby no matter what.

We have not had an ace or a real closer for most of the season...schilling, well, I hope the ace version shows up today as opoposed to the fat meatball version that sometimes comes around. There is enough media hype, attention and national coverage today --to motivate him to be the "hero"..I think he'll step it up to the occasion, and by the time the playoffs start we'll forget yesterday's game and worry about winning the series we're in.

Here's what happened:

The Red Sox are not well rounded baseball team. When you are one dimensional, ie great offense but inconsistent pitching, you can have a rough stretch when that one dimension struggles a little, like our offense did for most of September.

The White Sox are the same way. They had a 15 game lead that shrunk to 1 game at one point when their one dimension, their pitching, struggled during a 4 week stretch.

But if we play motherf***ing balls baseball from here on out, then we have a shot.

The talent on this team is there, it's just a question of whether we wake up and realize who we are, and that we are the defending champs. Clement needs to perform like he did in the first half of the season. Wake needs to shake off his last outing against the Yanks and keep on rolling. Schilling, he's a question, and I'm not sold on his ability yet, we've been waiting for a long time, and the patience has run out, even though he's been solid, not great, but solid against the Yanks today. Arroyo needs to be more consistent, Wells just needs to pitch like old times, and mix up his pitches a lot. The bullpen needs to come together, with Papelbon and Timlin leading the way. Pitching wins championships, that's why we beat the Cards last year. Our offense just has to keep hitting the ball.

The Yanks spent $85,000,000 more than Boston?

Francona is in the running for Manager of the Year so I don't think it was his fault.

manager of the year has got to be Eric Wedge or Ken Macha, hands down one of those two. (IMO at least)

what hapened to the Red Sox? The same thing that happened to the Yankees, injuries and disappointments. But now we're both in the postseason and what happened during the regular season has no relevence, the best team over the next few weeks takes the crown.

I agree Wedge has the award, but to blame Francona for injuries is just dumb. Francona has done a fine job the last 2 years. It was more directed at Joe.

yea but you cant blame Joe either for injuries....we did a hell of a job withstanding all of the roadblocks. But regardless, we both agree that it goes to Wedge.

Good Luck in the postseason!
