according to Jim Caple it is

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=caple/offbase/050908

what an idiot, You don't have to be a Sox or Yanks fan to see that this is still the best rivalry in all of sports. They play harder against each other than any other two teams in all of sports do...If anything, the Red Sox victory last year heightened the rivalry

Let's see since 2002 they've played 86 games...43-43 is the record...yeah, this Yankee/ Sox series sucks!!! Like watching John Olerud trot the bases after his upper deck shot would have made me feel all tingly inside if he hit against the Detroit Tigers!

I don't know what that guys talking about, but I know its the best time for me. So far this season, the only timed I've aqtched Yankee games with my friends or anyone else besides myself was when it was Yankees Red Sox, and like YS013 said, 43-43 after today. And even though I'm not haoppy they got it, the WS win for the Sox makes it even better, becuase now the Sox have something to defend, and the Yankees have somthing to chase for, I mean maybe a year ago right now, you could say its dying down becuase the Yankees had a 10 game lead for the divisoon and such and such and such.....but the events thats happened since them make everygame between them important, not just a show of a curse or whatever

Doesn't Caple hates the Yankees? Apparently he's not too fond of the "rivalry" (RIP), either.

But I do think Sox-Yanks, Yanks-Sox, however you put it, is beaten with a stick too much. Probably most fans in the Midwest care more about Cards-Cubs, and on the West Coast it's Dodgers-Giants. And yes, I can understand that last year was special, but it was a tad too overexposed, maybe even exploited, but I wouldn't go that far. And there probably is a trillian volumes on the Yankees, but it was "spread out" over a couple decades, so it's not exactly the same.

Thats true too, I don't eapect people from over there tio care much about Yankees-Sox. Same as I do not care much about theirs, but when it comes down to every rival, I think this is the best for the Players and fans

Obviously this guy doesn't live in the North East.

Obviously you missed his point.

Baseball's supposed best rivalry no longer matters to anyone outside New York and New England.

Actually there are people that hate every team from Carolina.

Of course, general consensus that it is the best rivlary in baseball, in sports, but jamming it down the throats of people who have other allegiances, there's only so much they can take.

It's not dead, but it is diminished to a point.

The rivalry is MUCH bigger than any 3 year period too. Even if right now its not as big as it once was, it iwll be big again and has been big in the past. If the rivalry is dead its because Yankee fans have resigned to the fact that the sox are better. The rivalry need not be based on Sox futility.

Didn't read the article, too tired, but I'll put my $0.02 in anyway :)

I feel more hatred coming from Red Sox fans to the Yankees than I feel Yankee fans give toward the Red Sox. Sure both fan bases hate each other, but there aren't anywhere near the amount of Boston Sucks sites as there are Yankees Suck sites. And I know some people who aren't fans of the Red Sox make those sites, but for the most part they are made by RS fans. So I guess now that the Sox won, you guys don't feel so much hatred? I don't know, you are the Sox fans so correct me if I'm wrong.

I'll be at the game tomorrow though, and I'm sure there won't be any trace of the rivalry being dead.

Edit: Curiosity killed the cat as they say, and I read the article. This was by far the most interesting exerpt IMO:

Both the Red Sox and Yankees are recent world champions. They both have bought those titles with payrolls far exceeding every other team in baseball. They both have rosters stocked with players from other organizations (the Red Sox even more than the Yankees). They both have fans who think the world revolves around their team. Cripes, David Wells pitches for Boston now. It's almost to the point that if it weren't for the pinstripes and Johnny Damon's hair, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart.

pretty interesting...

the rivalry isn't diminished at all, it's simply been redefined. as historic as the sox comeback was in the ALCS last year, it simply is another chapter, although a significant one, in the entire history of the rivalry between the two teams

it always has been a rivalry simply because these two teams are on a higher level than any other team in baseball. it used to be defined by the yankees beating up on the sox every year and crushing their hopes. now things are different, much different.

clearly, this guy doesnt like where the rivalry is now but I think the majority of yankee, red sox and baseball fans in general like where it is now and all you need to do is check out a few threads here and see how many TV cameras are at Yankee Stadium this weekend

LOL, overexposed??? First time in HISTORY a team comes back from 0-3 to win the series. No chance its overexposed. But I can only wonder why you say that...

go to YES boards and tell me again how little hatred there is towards Red Sox fans...

Key word there being YES Boards ;)

Besides, I didn't say Yankee fans loved the Red Sox, I'm just saying I think that Red Sox fans hate the Yankees more than Yankees fans hate the Red Sox. I also said to tell me if you think otherwise, which I am assuming you do. And please, anything said on those boards is not a valid representation of true Yankee fans feelings.

Look at the 542 books that came out, all the cotton wasted on t-shirts (kidding), etc. etc. etc.

OVERKILL.

Yea, I don't know if its just me, but I haven't been here long, but a lot of people make it seem like whoever goes to the YES Borads are the only Yankees fans.

There are good fans and bad and ******* fans with everyteam. I never posted at YES Boards, I post manly at redsoxnationclub.tk and nyyonline.tk

But the only thing that makes me angry, is if one Yankees fan says one thing, people think that every Yankee fan thinks that

HISTORY was made. That has NEVER happened, and it happened against the Yankees, our bitter rivals. And it was 86 years since our last World Series Ring. There cannot be overkill when something like that happens.

Of course it was blown up just a tad, but Sox fans will never admit it. Yankee fans just can't comprehend how it must have felt to be tormented for so many years (even though most Red Sox fans are not 86 years old to have experienced it all themselves), so we just have to roll with how they deal with winning. :dunno:

 I'm just kidding with you guys of course (people can kid around, right?), but it was a pretty big deal. I'm just really sick of hearing about it. It isn't only the Sox winning the world series, it is now everyone praising anyone who wears a Red Sox uniform. It's like the media is trying to brainwash everyone into becoming a RS fan. Honestly, I had to put the games on FOX & ESPN on mute because I just couldn't stand it anymore. It will pass though I'm sure. People will realize that the Sox do exactly what the Yankees do, as pointed out in the article, and the casual baseball fans will soon proclaim the Cubs America's favorite team.

Its beaten to death by the media like a popular song on the radio, but is it dead? Of course not, and of course people in other regions will enjoy their rivalries better, because its theirs, but everyone can marvel at the red sox yanks rivalrie because even though it is not the "best" to everybody, cause everyone likes their home team's rivalries the most, it is and will continue to be the most storied rivalry in all of sports. So to say its dead just because lately its been beaten to death, is ignorant, because of course the media is gonna kill this thing, two baseball towns, and 2 back to back collisions in the ALCS and a race for the division title this year. Of course its gonna get alittle worn. Whatever, it will probably be a big deal again in a year or two. Bigger then ever no that it isn't so one sided.

I live closer to Chicago. Oh goodness. Maybe Midwestern people will be more mild about it...maybe not.

There's nothing exciting that happened between that, and the Tea Party? Hmm.

I think you hit the nail right on the head there, especially about it being even bigger now that both teams are so dominant.

the AL East in 2006 I believe, as seen this season, wont be just the Sox and yankees as it has been for the past century. with better pitching the Orioles, Blue Jays and Devil Rays will be all be formidable foes

Ah please, don't even say....Devil Rays! :(

No but in all seriousness you are right. I wouldn't put it past Toronto and Baltimore to make next seasons AL East race as interesting as this years AL Wild Card race.

It's dead for me. Well now. Yesterday when the red sox lost i didnt feel as angry as before, and today watching the game i couldnt get as pumped up as perviously. I guess when it comes to the playoffs i'll get back to the old way, but for now its just another team to me, no different then watching them play Kansas.

pffft, just imagine if Mo had actually gotten those 3 outs in game 4. yankee fans would still be riding us like theres no tomorrow

wanna talk about overkill? the thousands of mentions of aaron f***ing boone after 2003. thats overkill

how sweet it would be for boone to somehow be responsible for clinching the wild card for the Guardians provided we dont blow the division
