Canadiens re-sign Koivu to three-year contract

MONTREAL (AP) -- The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed captain Saku Koivu to a $14.25-million, three-year contract extension through the 2008-09 season.

The deal also includes a no-trade clause.

Koivu could have become an unrestricted free agent July 1. His new average salary with the deal is $4.75 million, up from the $3.42 he is making this year.

The 31-year-old center is playing in his 10th season with the Canadiens. In 45 games this season, he has 14 goals and 25 assists.

Koivu will play for Finland in the Turin Olympics, marking his third Winter Games.

Yes! The Kings have snapped their 97-game losing streak.

Bruins needed to get atleast a point last night. Still only 2 points back of 8th place though.

i couldn't remember if they played 82 games or alittle more...but the bruins need as many wins when they come back as possible and they need to get healthy ASAP.

I've been waiting way too long. Nice to see Henke come back with a Gold Medal around his neck. Hopefully he'll join the exlusive club of Stanley Cup and Olympic Gold in the same year, as only three guys have done it.

Last time Swedes won the Gold? The magical 1994 season :)
