Intriguing article about Tim Thomas and the U.S. Olympic Team. It won't happen as many people already think Ryan Miller should be on the team instead of one of the 3 current goalies but it is an interesting possibility considering the way Thomas has played. Obviously I haven't seen Miller play often but I know YS has so maybe he can give some input on him but Thomas has to be one of the hottest goalies in the NHL right now.

Of course this is all hypothetical as I don't think they can replace people unless someone gets injured and I'm sure Miller would get chosen but it is an intriguing what if.

Yeah, I think he should definitely be on the team but I think it may be better if he stays home. Lets face it, The US is probably going to be pretty bad in the olympics and a few bad games at the highest level could really screw with millers confidence.

I think Esche should be on it, but I am definetely not sold on Grahame and DiPietro.

I heard this morning that Miller will be named to the team as a fourth goalie, even though I still feel very strongly that he should be starting.

When the crowd started chanting 'USA USA USA USA USA' last night against Philly and Robert Esche, I got chills down my spine.

49 to be exact. ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montreal_Canadiens

With the possible exception of baseball's New York Yankees, no North American sports team has had as storied and as successful a history as the Montreal Canadiens, the oldest team in professional hockey. They have won 24 Stanley Cups eleven more than the team with the next largest number – the Toronto Maple Leafs.

26 + 24 = 50 ;)

Oh, I just checked the Montr?al Canadiens official website, and I counted their SC titles. And you're right, it's 24. Then again, maybe one of them doesn't count as a SC title.

Nonetheless, 24 championships.

its 24 cups.....i was at the belle center this weekend for the bruins game

wow, nice. Is the Bell Centre nice? What's it like compared to the TD Banknorth Garden?

Posted
its bigger than the garden....their fans get real loud....very passionate....it seats over 21,000 and its always sold out. when you walk in to the bell centre you are at the top of the lower bowl unlike at the garden where you have to walk up to the lower bowl. the bell centre is kind of built into the ground. i wasn't impressed with their proshop at all. the bruins one is much bigger and carries more than just bruins and celtics stuff. the habs one just sells only canadians stuff. overall it was a good time other than the loss and i will definitely be going back yearly to see the bruins play up there.

Thats cool, I wouldn't mind seeing some games up in Canada a road trip to Toronto, Ottawa ,and Montreal to see games sounds like a fun idea I may see if I can come up with enough bread for all that lol.

Anyone see that the Thrashers' GM Don Waddell guaranteed a playoff berth for Atlanta, that gave me a pretty good chuckle.

Way to put tons of pressure on your team jackass, not to mention yourself.

I just found these, if anyone really cares, these are some seriously mind-boggling stats

Since returning to the lineup on 12/19/05:

·named 1st star in 8 of 15 games

·allowed exactly 1 goal in 8 of 15 games

·allowed 2 or fewer in 11 of 15 games

·allowed 0 3rd period goals in 11 of 15 games

·allowed 1 or fewer 3rd period goals in 14 of 15 games

On the season:

·has been to OT 4 times and has not allowed a goal—ALL WINS

·has been to shootout 3 times, faced 9 shooters, allowed 1 to score (Forsberg)- ALL WINS

Sabres beat the Hab(nots)...

But seriously, How Gay is that Ole Ole Ole Ole chant they do in Montreal?

Fags.

Try listening to that in a playoff series when they're an 8 seed and kicking your team's ass as a 1 seed. I hate the Canadiens with a passion.<_>

The Boston Bruins have acquired goaltender Brian Eklund from the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for left wing Zdenek Blatny, it was announced today by Boston Bruins General Manager Mike O'Connell. Eklund was assigned to the Bruins’ American Hockey League affiliate in Providence.

Eklund, 25, played four sesaons of college hockey at Brown University with a 7-27-5 record, 3.42 goals against average and one shutout in 48 career college games. He was drafted by Tampa Bay as their eighth pick, 226th overall, in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and has played the last three-plus seasons in the Lightning organization with their AHL and ECHL affiliates.

The 6’5”, 205 lb. native of Braintree, MA began this season with Tampa’s AHL affiliate in Springfield, playing in 17 games with a 5-11-1 record and 4.19 goals against average. He was recalled once for a one-game stint in Tampa Bay and played his first NHL game with a 3-2 loss in Montreal on Nov. 8. He was playing with Johnstown of the ECHL at the time of this trade with a 1-0-1 record and 3.23 goals against average in two games.

Blatny, 25, was invited to Boston’s training camp on a try-out agreement and signed with the Bruins as a free agent on Sept. 30, 2005. He has spent most of this season in Providence/AHL where he had 8-22=30 totals with 21 penalty minutes in 35 games. He was recalled once to Boston, from Nov. 28-Dec. 12, playing five scoreless games in that stretch.

whats the need of another goalie?? Does this mean someone might be on the way out?

Because Providence needs a goalie since Tim Thomas is up here now and they must not be happy with Sigalet as their starter. This has nothing to do with the pro team trust me.

Rangers had a good old fashioned ass-whomping of Ottawa last night, to pull within 3 points of second in the conference.

Jagr is the best player in the league, Lundqvist is statistically the best goalie in the league with Legace of Detroit. The key to their success has been the 3rd and 4th lines and the PK. Just amazing to watch how they can control a game. Jason Ward was the first star last night, and has been outstanding.

Best of all, today I saw 3 separate people wearing Rangers stuff today on the buses/subways in the city. This is the most I've seen since.. ever.

It feels good to be a Ranger fan, finally.

Montreal goalie Jose Theodore has tested positive for a banned substance in pre-Olympic screening because he was using a hair-growth drug that can be used as a masking agent, the Canadiens' team doctor said Thursday. The test wasn't part of the NHL's new testing program, so he will not be subject to league discipline.
