While the Yankees

are looking at Colorado's Eric Byrnes and will revisit Seattle's Randy Winn in their quest for a center fielder, they are also including some so-called "Four-A" players in their search -- players who have shuttled between the majors and minors or are on the cusp of the majors.

One name that has cropped up is Chip Ambres, a former No. 1 pick of the Florida Marlins who was traded Tuesday from Boston to Kansas City.

In fact, the Yankees seem to have interest in just about all the Royals outfielders. The Yankees had three scouts at last night's Kansas City-Cleveland game (Ambres made his major-league debut in left field, David DeJesus started in center and Emil Brown was in right).

In 84 games with Boston's Triple-A Pawtucket club, Ambres, 25, had a .294 batting average, .401 on-base percentage, 20 doubles, 10 home runs and 19 steals.

While the Florida Marlins are open to deals to shake up their underachieving team, they are not believed to be open to moving center fielder Juan Pierre.

CHIP AMBRES(who we traded for tony grafinino) PLAYING CF FOR THE YANKEES????

:wtf:

I actually heard on our local ESPN radio the other day that the Yankees had some interest in ... TIKE REDMAN. He's probably the worst defensive OFer in the league right now, and he couldn't hit a beach ball if you set it on a tee infront of him.

If the Yankees are coming to the Pirates to solve their problems they're in big trouble. And besides Pirates GM Dave Littlefield said he will not make trades that would help the Yankees in any way.

Redman is an average center fielder defensively, and he can swipe some bases. He'd be an okay solution, he can catch the ball, and could bat 9th.

According to Kirkjian on SC six-pack question thing, deal isn't happening w/ Seattle unless they lower their asking price (prospects? doling out cash doesn't seem to be that big of a problem) for Winn.

Also made it clear that Yankees will not be going anywhere w/ Bernie playing CF everyday.

Thanks for the reminder.

Trust me you're wrong ... I watch him daily. He has 3 SB 1 CS. He has 5 errors this season, but that doesn't even begin to tell the story with his fielding. I don't think I've seen a major league player miss this many pop ups in 1 season.

Nope I'm not, Bernie Williams is a bad centerfielder, Melky Caberra is a bad centerfielder. I'm not saying Redman is a gold glover, he's just average.

ken griffey jr would be a good add to the yankees for offense, but still this aging player is a risk at being injury prone. Right now its lookin like best bet would be eric byrnes, with less 10 days left, they should act fast if they dont want to see bernie missin pop ups

thats odd, i remember when he first came up people were raving about his defensive abilities and his spped on the bases.....but regardless Iwouldnt want him on the Yankees.

We dont really know if Melky is a bad CF yet, yea he struggled a little bit when he first came up, but i still dont think we gave him a fair shot, just look at Robinson Cano. Cano looked just as bad at second when he first came up, but we kept throwing him out there and look at him now. My preference would be Melky over anyone else, but if hes going to hurt the team then i wouldnt mind a Pierre or a Griffey until Melkys ready.

thats one team I dont mind at all him going to, second favorite baseball team, plus he would be teammates again with Nomr as well as less chance of having to see him face off the Sox. Ill still hold out hopes for now he does resign with us though.

I meant that Melky is not a good CF not right now, but he could be a good one someday. He's quick which is good for him, he really reminds me of a young Bernie Williams w/o the power. Caberra probably could hit about 10-15 HR's, and swipe some bags.

Yeah he's quick. Too young to be great right now, but guys like that get better.

guys...hes barely above-average speed...not yet where you could classify him with Bernie in his prime, Damon, Jeter, etc...hes probably a little faster than Cano, who isnt very fast for a 2B

We've got enough offense, start Bubba Crosby out there. He plays very good defense and covers a lot of ground. That's all we need. DH Bernie, 1B Giambi and CF Bubba will serve us well enough.

ya know i actually like Bubba Crosby...he plays hard and its gotta be tough playing CF on team where you are just a fill in who makes no money. I hope he does play cause he deserves some credit...I never see him do anything to embarass himself

I know this source isn't credible, but I hope it goes down anyway. On the YES boards there is a link to a Reds board listing this possible trade:

Red get - Christian Garcia, Phillip Hughes, Eduardo Sierra, Ramon Ramirez

Yankees get - Griffey, Kent Merker, Rich Aurillia

Gacria and Hughes are the Yankees top two pitching prospects and Sierra and Ramirez are also high on their list of prospects. This will help the Yankees in the immediate future but sell even more of their future. Let's hope that George thinks that all that glitters is gold.

There is little gas left in Bernie's tank; PH him if necessary, keep Giambi at 1B - or DH-ing him is a possibility, and get Tino to play first. Did I just say that?

There will be no Griffey trade. Nonononono. Use Crosby as a plug in CF for now; pitching is still the problem - I'm afraid the arms are going to fall off in the bullpen (*cough*FLASH) if the SP doesn't get it together soon.

Crosby "attempted" a play in center where the ball ultimately leaped out of his glove - but that he even got there is saying something about his speed and range.

havent heard anything on this...not too much in favor of trading Hughes, as hes our top pitching prospect..I dont want to see Garcia go either, but i would rather send him than Hughes. Ramirez has been in the system for a while and isnt projected to be anything special, and we got Sierra from the A's for Chris Hammond 2 offseasons ago...i dont mind trading any of those guys with the exception of Hughes.

Its no secret I wouldnt mind Griffey. I also like Aurilia, and was in favor of getting him in the offseason when those rumors were swirling, he could serve as a good replacement for Sanchez if hes out for a long period of time...right now hes on the 60 day DL so thats not promising news. Also Merker wouldnt hurt as he would provide some help from the left side. S I say go for it (without trading Hughes)

According to the Daily News, rumors were swirlig yesterday about Griffey coming to the Yanks, but were shot down. (article also states the Yanks might have interest in Randy Winn for center, Embree, and other relievers.)

Edwardo Sierra, Melky Cabrera, and Scott Proctor for Griffey and Mercker was another rumor swirling.

I REALLY dont wanna trade Melky...I have no problem trading Sierra and Proctor though

...maybe they would consider somethign along the lines of :

Sierra, Proctor, Kevin Reese, Ramon Ramirez, Shelley Duncan (AA 2B...with Cano theres really no room for him in the future, and hasnt really shown any potential except his year, so maybe CIN would take a shot on him), Justin Pope

well i heard today that yesterday the Yankees made a very respectable offer for Griffey, but the Reds said "hes not available"...which is very shocking, hopefully theyre just saying this to prolong things until the deadline to get more bidders in the Griffey Sweepstakes, but if they truly dont intend to trade him, Dan Obrien needs to be fired.

(I dont know what the offer the Yanks made was)
