As Im sure about 90% of members on here have heard that the Yankess will be doing away with their historic park "the house that Ruth built" for a new $800 million dollar stadium that will be built on same street and ready for spring 2009. I was just wondering what yankee and sox fans think on this new stadium, as well as eventually tearing down the 82 year old Yankee Stadium. I do think that this new stadium would look like a fine ballpark as the ballparks of the early 20th century were, however I do believe in preserving history, yankees or otherwise

Are they actually tearing the old stadium down? I heard they were going to use it for youth baseball in the area, though I could be wrong...

thats what i was assuming since they also talked about refurbishing the area around there, including a new big parking garage. if that would be used for youth team, theyd have one hell of a park to play in.

the $800 Million Stadium will resemble the older model on the outside, with the concoarse being a gate of sorts to the plaza area where the gates will be. The inside will be similar to the surrent stadium while also being much different. The inside will go back to having the facade going around the entire stadium (1923-1973) rather than having it just around the outfield (1976-2008). The stadium would be one building rather than the format now where the bleacher section is a complete and seperate structure in its own. As Riverside said it will be located on the next block of 161st and River Ave.

I will try to get some pics for you guys as the stadium is a very unique structure.

What they will do with the old stadium is knock down most of the stadium structure (with the exception of the lower lever to about the foul poles) and use the field for youth recreation. The rest of the stadium area (i.e structure, parking lots, Rupert place, etc..) will be the new site of Macombs Dam Paek (where the new stadium will be built). There are already basketball courts where Yankee Stadium is now for rec. purposes, but they will add a soccer field, more basketball courts, and a few little league size fields, as well as other luxuries.

This Stadium will be huge for the re-development of the South Bronx, as in the same area as part of the stadium plan all sorts of things will be added, including a High School specializing in sports professions.

The Stadium will be great for the Yankees and the city of New York as well as the bourough of the Bronx, though it will be a shame to have the very historical Yankee Stadium torn down, it will be a pleasure to have the opprotunity to actually play on that sacred field later on. Also the many new luxuries of the new stadium will enhance the atmosphere of going to a game.

red sox have since signed a long-term deal with boston to keep fenway park. ill be surprised if they do, because by 2012 fenway park will become protected by the historical society as it celebrates its 100th bday

new yankee stadium will actually be smaller in seating capacity, cuz georgey wants aboundance of high-priced luxury boxes :what: :wetodd: hey anything to pay for their roster, as price is still currently growing this season with addition of leiter

Pussies, Fenway Park has always been better and this is their way of trying to keep up.

o yea this is our way of keeping up to the almighty red sox...btw Tex... just out of curiosity, how many times have you been to Fenway livin down there in Texas? Do you know from experience that it is better, have you been to both to compare? (i have and very much enjoyed Fenway when i was there)

'nother question Tex, how is it that you came to be a Sox fan especially since you live so far away from Boston....if ya ask me YOU are the definition of frontrunner....i bet that if the nation wasnt on the Red Sox sympathy train that they been ridin the last 3 years that made it cool to root for the Sox that you wouldnt be a Sox fan, i bet if we were having this discussion in 2000 your name would be "Yanks fan in Tex", or in winter of '02 it would be "Halo fan in Tex", or maybe if we were havin this discussion in the 90's it would be "Braves fan in Tex"....so please enlighten me on how you became a fan of the

DEFENDING CHAMPS and not of the 3rd place Rangers (2nd this year) or Wild Card/Never won a championship Astros..im very interested in knowing.

the first pic is the entrance to the "plaza"..much like with the original model (1923-1973)

the second is the ariel showing where the new stadium will be compared to the current location of the current stadium, as well as what the current stadium will look like when it is torn down, if you have ever been to Yankee Stadium, beyond the outfield wall (of the current stadium) is where all the shops, stores (such as Stan the Mans), Bowling Alley, Sports Bar, Twins Fastfood, Vinny Milanos T-Shirt Table, etc, are located as well as the subway to give you a better visualization. Im guessing the stores will remain where they are considering the close proximity to the current stadium and subway is already passing by the new stadium, but infrastructure improvements will be made.

The third picture is from behind home plate, if you look in dead center field where the "black seats" are located now you will see a reflective glass which will serve as the batters eye and behind that glass is the new Yankee Club/Restuarant. Right in front of the glass will be Monument Park, which will actually be moved from the current stadium to the new stadium, it will be in center field rather than in left like it is now.

The fourth is of the reflective glass and monument park

the fifth compares the concoarse and deck sizes of the current stadium and the new stadium which should add comfortable conditions.

It's too bad I hope they never tear Fenway down.

No, it'll never be torn down. They'll build another stadium eventually, who knows, maybe identical to fenway.

Because seating is ample in Fenway, and prices are always reasonable, natch! ;)

I hear that a site in Montreal is getting some consideration. :D

*I get to go to lots of overseas places, like Canada.

Louisiana Purchase, Part 2: Invasion of Canada. Has a certain ring to it, dontcha think?

Nah, I think it would be too cold for Steinbrenner.

*That'd be Britney Spears who should brush up on her geography.

That's a pretty old picture. There's a lot of great ones here, they've updated it throughout the course of construction to show the progression in how it has come along.

Here's a picture of an average New Yorker after the stadium went up.

Screw that. I want one. I want to live long enough to see a new Fenway. That's my new goal in life.

And the new Yankee Stadium has a manually operated scoreboard? Is that new?

It has 2 manually operated scoreboards. Seeing as how the Stadium is new, uhh..yeah, the scoreboards are new too. If you meant is the use of a manual scoreboard new, then yes there hasn't been a manual scoreboard used at Yankee Stadium since back in the day lol.

It also has 2 huge out of town scoreboards, one for the NL and one for the AL.

I bet you by 2024 there's a new Fenway.

Sooner than that. I think Fenway's 100 year anniversary is 2012, they'll let it stand till then for sure. I'd be surprised if a new stadium isn't at least in the works by 2012.
