MMMK... theres been a lot of talk about who should be the first baseman on the active roster all the time. John Olerude or Kevin Millar. I personaly am really torn. Olerude already had (last time i checked) a .356 batting average and hes a good first baseman... but on the otherhand i love Kevin Millar. Hes the heart of the team and he keeps everyone's spirits up you know? W/B and let me know what you think. :dunno:

Millar is a cheerleader. That is the only thing he does here. He brings a little bit of happiness. And quite honestly, that is nearly worthless. Other guys are nice and have fun personalitys on the team like manny and ortiz and they keep it loose. Kevin Millar is not needed on this team. AT ALL. Olerud and Pentagine should split time along with Youkilis.

I see where your comming from but I CERTAINLY dont agree. The Red Sox are not the Red Sox without Kevin Millar. Without hope, skill means nothing. BIZLACHES! I want to see any other regular citizens go out there everyday and do what Kevin Millar dose. Olerude is a good player and hes got heart for the game, but not for the Red Sox. He loves baseball but not the way Kevin Millar dose. No one could replace Kevin Millar.

since when does loving the game mean you can actually hit and field well? I don't care if he made love to every baseball field in america, if he made every team in america laugh, or if he made any more cheesy commercials or interviews, he still sucks. He still doesn't hit clutch. He doesn't field good. His Slugging % is in the mid .300's! That is nearly disgusting.

So are you saying that Millar is the face of the RED SOX?????

And what does "without hope skill means nothing" mean??? Are you saying hes the only one who has any faith in this team? I think the Red Sox would be fine without him...like someone said Manny and Papi keep the team loose, I don't think the red Sox winning the division, pennant, or world series hinges on Kevin Millar being on the team or not

Dale Svuem, Brad Mills, Terry Francona, Dave Wallace.... these guys should be the cheerleaders of the team and do a fine job.

If Kevin Millar's greatest contribution to the team is his clubhouse presence, great-- hire him on as a coach. Just stop wasting valuable at bats on this guy.

I don't need to get into it here because I bash Millar every chance I get. He's horrible. He can't hit lefties, can't hit away from Fenway, can't hit in the clutch, can't run, or field ever. He's #29 of 30 everyday first baseman in the Major Leagues. A combination of Olerud/Youkils may not finish above 20, but in my humble opinion, would be better offensively and just as good defensively as Kevin "I can't hit my way out of a wet paper bag" Millar.

Well it seems to me that everyone who decided it was fit to answer my blog, looses total faith in a player epecially when they need help the most. If anyone decided they wanted to check it out before bashing him, his stats for last year were pretty damn good if you ask me, and no he may not have made the All Stars, but anyone in thier right mind can see that its just a popularity contest anyway. When Johnny Damon has a few bad at bats, or makes a few bad calls in the field, do we crucify him for it? No way... do you know why? Because he looks good in an underwear commercial. Is this baseball? I dont think so. By the way, im not mad at anyone that answered me, Im just venting... dont take it personally ;) . Also Im not saying that Kevin Millar is "THE HEART" of the team, but I do think hes a great contirbutor to "keeping everyone loose". :harhar:

By the way could someone who actually likes Kevin Millar please write?

johnny damon wasnt voted cuz of his good lucks or popularity really, well not why i had voted him for haha. He ranks as one of the elite leadoff batters, posting a high .345 batting average. and going into game 1 against the yankees johnny will be riding on a 25 game hittings treak, which is the ebst hes had in his career as well as its the longest in the majors this season for any player. despite not having a high homerun count, at 4 halfway, just about every commentator talking about him have called this his career best season by far. I like kevin millar just as the next fan, its just he hasnt contributed much offensively since last month.

I totaly agree, and im not trying to say that JD isnt a good player but im just saying that Millar is having a tough go of it right now and i think he'll find his groove again, but not without the support of his fans.

I have to say, I completey agree with Mrs.Millar16.

There are some things that don't show up in boxscores. Kevin Millar's personality and asset to the team (right now anyway) is what he brings to the clubhouse. He keeps everyone lose and having fun. What happens when you get a team full of great players with no chemistry? The New York Yankees. And who wants to root for the Yankees? No one in their right mind.

And I don't think you guys are giving him enough credit as a hitter, anway. It's not like he's Mark Bellhorn, striking out every chance he gets and hitting .220. The same exact thing happened last year. He had a horrible first half and then what happened? He had that three homerun game against the Yankees and he tore it up the second half. I know being patient isn't something we like to do in Red Sox Nation, but you have to with Millar. He's too good of a player to just give up on.

Kevin millar tore it up for 6 weeks and sucked again. He's had a tough go of it since July of 03. Forget about him. If his happy personality and nice clubhouse attitude are so damn important, he will become expendible next week, seeing as Kapler is likely to be signed by friday.

i just dont like olerud, so i would choose millar. but olerud is great at first baseman, his height and experience is a plus. idk, millar could be good in a jay payton type of situation. as for the at bats, hes struggling. a lot of players do it. he'll be fine. he usually comes through. oh well, what we say means nothing anyway, its all up to the skip....

All of Millars fans seem to keep mentioning his loose personality, and I agree he does have a good clubhouse presence...but by the way you guys are saying it, you make it seem like hes the ONLY ONE with a good clubhouse presence, but hes not. Manny and Ortiz have great personalities and contribute alot to the looseness of the Boston Red Sox, so I'd say thats a invalid argument.

Its not like they would become like the Yankees without Kevin Millar...

I dont think they would become the Yankees without Kevin Millar, and I dont think that Kevin is the only person on the team that keeps them loose and having fun. What i do think though is that if Kevin were to be traded, that would be the first step into loosing a lot of other great players like Manny (who is really good friends with Kevin) and that would start a domino effect. Before you know it... we have great players with no love for the game. To me that is very "Yankee-like".

Bellhorn hasn't performed to his full potential, either, to say nothing of the entire friggin' bullpen, but ... hang in there and give Millar a chance to break out. The hype about him wanting out? All crap. Where would Millar go where he would be treated like an honorary club mascot? He doesn't want to be anywhere else but right where he is. I think the stress of the slump is really getting to him. And despite appearances, I don't think he's an overly confident player. He knows his limitations, he knows he probably has to try twice as hard to see mid-level results. And Francona can be accused of being loyal to a fault, but I'm a loyal kind of guy. I was living in Toronto when the Jays won the back-to-back series and it was so great to see the majority of the team stick together through those long summers. Averages go up and down, and guys have really crappy months, but in the end this is the exact Red Sox team that I want to see win the Series again ...

I'm probably just a sentimental idiot, but so be it.

Keep Millar.

I've got to go drink some herbal tea, eat a quiche, and read some poetry now ... ;)

I TOTALLY AND COMPLETLEY AGREE. Even though hes not doing his best right now, at least he has the ability to be better. If anyone wants to admit it or not... he delivered last year. Lets not forget him hitting several game winning hommers and playing the hell out of first base in '04. If given the right chance, hes a phenominal player. He just needs to find his groove.
Posted
millar is finding his groove since coming back from the all star break, his on base percentage has been an amzing .630% !! now that is very good, in 7 straight games he has drawn at least a walk ((nine altogether in just 7 games)), he changed his stance to make his feet more closer together and is not swinging his bat anymore like hes chopping wood. hes bound to be belting homeruns anytime soon.

I dont think Johnny's popularity/looks has anything to do with him making any All Star teams, or gaining the respect of RSN. Johnny has always produced since being here, and last year he put up, possibly, the best year of any leadoff hitter in the history of the game. I don't ever remember KFK being the best at anything. The problem with KFK is that, no one cares about how fun he is or how relaxed he makes the team when he sucks. Trust me there are at least a few players on every team that do what Millar does in the clubhouse.

Like it was said before I think Manny, and Papi do a good enough job keeping the team loose. If we trade Millar and realize we need someone who can make the team laugh ... I dont know ... we could probably sign Dennis Leary. He couldn't possibly be any worse than at 1B than KFK is.

BTW I like KFK, but if we can improve the team let's improve it.

It does appear that Millar has been eating up, and he has had a good average over the years at Fenway, I say keep him for this year, see how he does, and if he's crappy then try and find someone who iwll take him in the off season.

i have only heard about kevin millar being traded to the twins on this forum website, nowhere else--so far sox is giving up bronson and mueller or small chance at youkilis, thats what the espn news said that I was watching

its on the buzz too. Millar and Mueller to Twins, Romero and Mays here, MAys and Bronson to florida and Lowell and Burnett to here. i favor this too, even though Lowell's year is bad i think he just needs a change.
