Well, if no one is going to start it 15 minutes before game time, I will:

Tim Wakefield (6-6, 4.05 ERA)

vs.

Scott Elarton (4-2, 4.76 ERA)

It was one week ago that the Guardians were swept and embrassed in Cleveland at the hands of the defending World Champions, and here we are with the same Guardians 9 outs away from doing the same thing to the Sox at Fenway.

In the last 22 innings Wake has allowed a total of one run against opponents. Wake was 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA vs. the Guardians in 2004. Elarton did not face the Sox.

Wake's starts from the season courtesy of my 2005 Red Sox Pitching Report:

i wouldve, but according to yezzir, by me posting the first 2 threads its because of me they lost, haha know that was just a joke of course im guessin, it really happened because of the 9th inning the geriatric umpire squeezing keith foulke's strike zone and keith foulke throwing the wrong pitch down and in

I just want to point out that John Olerud is 2-4 today, making him .405 for the season. So far, he's looking like a good pickup by Theo....

Mantei's on in relief of Wake (who made another tremendous start today) and he walked the first batter. C'mon Matt!

Posted

Mantei before coaches visit: 6 pitches, 6 balls. 1 walk

Mantei after coaches visit: 8 pitches, 1 ball. 3 outs (1 K)

Does Terry bring in Foulke for the ninth? I say he does, and I'm already nervous.

Mike Timlin in for the ninth.

No doubt Terry Francona will be questioned about this after the game, and no doubt he'll say it was because Foulke threw 40+ pitches yesterday.

I hope Mike gets it done.

That Cleveland team is pesky. Got to give them credit even though we're 4-2 against them, they played us tough all 6 games.

Timlin got the save but even he looked shaky. The bullpen looks pretty bad right now.

Thats how its DONE!

I totally called to myself a HR for Mirabelli. The man gets it done.

Gonna buy yourself a cookie now?

Sounds like a good game. I've been watching you guys for the scores. Thanks for the Play by play els. Also I think that mirabelli deserves way more credit. I mean this guy is awesome. Whenever he plays its like he jacks one. If tek got injured again then I wouldn't worry with belli up there.

I was JUST saying that to someone. Grand slam earlier, the 3-runner in Philly....he always wails it out of the park, and its never a solo. I like him a lot.

Toronto scares the crap out of me. Probably because they've played so well against us, but they're a decent team, and no doubt would love to beat up on us and get themselves back in the race. Hey-- they're only 6 games out-- same as NY.
