Wells is 2-2 in his last four starts and was battered for seven runs by the Yankees during his most recent start. He escaped several jams with minimal damage before the Yankees exploded for four runs in the fifth to chase him from the game. In seven starts on the road, Wells' ERA is 4.95 -- more than two runs higher than his home mark of 2.87.

Clement was strong in his last start, a victory over the Reds, when he allowed three earned runs over eight innings. After allowing just one homer in April and then another one in May, Clement has already surrendered four home runs in June. A native of Butler, Penn., Clement is 7-6 with a 4.58 ERA lifetime against the Pirates.

Sorry, I was out with the padre today for Padres' Day. At least we still won and Matt Clement continues to prove that he is our ace. I still love that Jason Schmidt comparison circa '02 and it looks damn good.
