he needs to put the pressure behind him. like take roger maris, the great yankee player who was at the exact same time the most hated and his own yankee fans in yankee stadium would be booing him just because he wasn't a "true yankee". Each day he got harassment, media bashing on him, fans etc. but still he got up there and belted 61 homeruns, breaking Babe Ruth's record

As I said, I like Bellhorn he has had some big hits but come on people!!! Come to your senses a guy who K's as much as he does is not how a World series contending team should operate. I'd love to see Bellhorn stay with the team but more as a utility player who plays here and there. There seems to be a lot of anger towards anyone who critiques Bellhorn on this site. I didn't realize this board was full of Mark Bellhorn's extended family!

This may signal the beginning of the end for Bellhorn with Tito starting to pinch hit for him. It's a safe bet he won't be back next year. The problem is, who else plays second. I know Pedroia is good but promoting him after a couple months in triple A may wind up making him the team's new strikeout leader. Theo could make a move, but they need bullpen help first. Aside for the occasional homer, just keep praying for walks.

It is true bellhorn is not playin like he should but he is very clutch, and crushes the ball. All he needs to work on his mechanics and work on not having the upper-cut swing he does, and getting better timeing then he'd b a stud.

I'm sorry but his track record indicates that Pedoria won't strikeout that much. Hey, it worked for the Yankees, why don't we give it a shot?

I hate to pile onto the "I can't stand Bellhorn" thread but seriously, how many times has Bellhorn K'd with risp and less than 2 out this year? I'm hope some crackerjack statistician can come up with that stat.

Can't do that for you, RedSox911, but here are some interesting facts:

Bellhorn's slump is so deep right now it's looking like this -- 4 for 35, .114 in July; .187 (.299 OBP) in 36 games since June 1. Bellhorn's whiffs since June 1, 49, outnumber his hits (23) and walks (21) combined.

sox fan in texas i agree with ya completely, if he doesnt start tearing it up, they will be benching him sometime soon. obviously tito's confidence is showing to be worn little by little, if hes now starting to pinch hit for bellhorn in the late innings. hell hes right now on a 13 game streak of striking out as it is...

since June 1st:

24 hits out of 129 at bats!!---7 doubles, 5 HRs, 16 RBIs, 23 walks, 2 stolen bases. and of course for last 38 games, 53 friggin strikeouts

Also interesting to note that Hanley Ramirez was playing 2B last night and not SS. Hanley is on the 40 man roster and Dustin Pedroia is not, and I think in all likelihood we could see Hanley given a shot at 2B shortly rather than Pedrioa. Just an observation after seeing Hanley playing 2B last night and the fact that it would take another roster move to put Dustin on the 40 man roster.

im excited about hanley as the next fan is, but still would be sketchy to bring up a player from AA straight to the majors, be a big change for him considering also the pitchers he will face opposed to the pitchers fresh out of high school and college in AA

needless to say the only people who have this obssesion with hanely are people who post here. Back here on a little place I call earth--the redsowill not go to this kid this season or even proibably next season. Nothing in the way this management has handled things would inidcate that you'll see hanely in fenway except selling hot dogs.Sketchy isnt the word for it--highly unlikely.

Fortunately theo has a lot more baseball knowledge and patience than the average delusional child. this kid aint going to be in centerfield aor at ss at 2B for the boston redsox any time soon.

bottom line we need a major league caliber experienced second baseman--as I have said before bellhorn breaks up more rallies than the montgomery alabama police department. He really just is a mediocre at best 2nd baseman and really and is just basically a bum.

something will happen or not, but it isnt going to be with hanely...at least that's what history would say.

sketchy does mean risky, which it would be very much so, as it seems right now dustin pedroia from AAA could be called up late august/september so he can help out with that position, plus also it will be giving him a taste of the big leagues, on nesn its been stated time and time again that come spring training 2006, dustin pedroia seems most liekly to take over second base for the sox

Runner on 3 less than two outs:

23ab 12k .130ba .207obp

Scoring position:

80ab 36k .163ba .268obp

Other interesting stats:

Home splits

135ab 53k .170ba .250obp

Of his 7 homeruns on the season, 6 have been solo homers.

Ironically, Bellhorn's been praised for his OBP and walks but his avg when putting the ball in play early in the at bat (0-0, 0-1, 1-0, 1-1, 2-0) is .367. His avg after those counts, .146.

Interesting, it's almost like the guy looks to walk after the count hits two balls which could explain why he has so many LOOKING K's.

I've been looking for a site that will let you figure out how many times Bellhorn goes to the plate and doesn't even swing the bat. If you discount IBB, I bet he leads the league.

HAHA.....has Irish Jay gotten the internet geeks dander up? If A-rod can make the switch from shortstop to 3rd base after playing his whole career at short surely the Sox can work something out.

Youk to second?

Posted
First is not second. You do realize, right?

You don't know how bad a guy can be at 2nd until you try it, and especially against TB, I think is a perfect time to do it.
