The biggest signing for the Sox this offseason is Damon.....I would hate to see Hanley at CF cause that means we lost Jesus. I don't care how much talent you want to talk about with Hanley....Damon is a better player. I think Hanley, Pedroia, and Youkilis should have a competition for 2B next year. No young player should just walk into a position. Although I think Youk will take over 3B or 1B at some point.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I think you're right. As talented as Hanley Ramirez is, it's hard to imagine the team without Johnny Damon. He'll be expensive, but he's an offensive force.

After reading the article above, I started to think about what our infield might look like a few years down the road. Hanley won't be ready in 06, he's still toiling in AA. So next year the infield could look like so:

1B: Fat boy (Millar)

2B: Pedroia

3B:Youkilis

SS: Renteria

If we could jettison Millar, I'd be agreeable to resigning Mueller on a 1 year deal and playing Youk at first full time, because when Hanley bursts onto the scene in 07, I'd love an infield that looked like this:

1B: Youkilis

2B: Pedroia

3B: Renteria

SS: Ramirez

Renteria's said he'd be willing to switch for Hanley in the article I linked above.

Thoughts?

ElSrBueno, that would be great if we could compete with either of those line-ups since three of those players will be making a million or less. I don't want to see Renteria switch for Hanley though. He's a gold glove winner at short stop. What kind of an organization get's a gold glove SS and move's him to 3B. Oh yeah. The Yankees do.

mueller is one of the great clutch hitters we got at the bottom of the lineup, he rarely has strikeouts, so far just up to 30 halfway thru the season, average is about to creep up to .300, makes me perplexed to have both him and youkilis at same position and want to see both of them out on the field at the same time

I still don't see Pedroia starting next season. But whatever. We'll see.

What do you base that on?

and really i think dustin will be in pawtucket for next season. they just quickly moved him up from AA, and it might bite them to quickly move him up to the majors. He needs time to adjust to AAA. If anybody Im betting anything it will be Hanley Ramirez next non-pitcher to moved up. I just think Ramon Vazquez is one of severals Sox members need to be given the pink slip, batting average is now .197 ??? myabe Hanley can come up later in the year and take over backup position of 2nd/shortstop

But the thing is, is that Renteria has played so bad defense this year, I cant even describe it....

im just hopin theo gets a lil "stenibrenner" in him and starts assigning people like they did to inconsistent reliever pitchers stanton and quantrill. start off with really vazquez, embree, mantei ((4 walks in same inning are you kidding me)) foulke if hes able to control his velocity and attitude that is. but still on side note, props to dave mcCarty joining the NESN team, one of my fav red sox backups last season

Bill Mueller is still my favorite player on the sox, and even tho some say hes slowing down, still out there as a clutch hitter and his defensive plays just about always make it into espn baseball top plays of the week. I think 2005 will be his last year as 3B starter for the red sox. Maybe 2006 they could still have him on board but transition him to backup third baseman with youkilis getting the nod. I just have this big feeling that of course mueller loves his job with the red sox organization, maybe stick by 3rd base even longer and someday take over dale svelum's job ;)

I hope Mueller sticks around.

And yeah he's reached safely in 40 of his last 46 games according to Orscillo. He's raised his average, too. Over the last 10 games, he's hitting .273 and he's hitting very well at home this series, surprisingly for him.

Hahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... Dontrelle Willis (.261) has a better batting average than Bellhorn... Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha

PU ..whooaff....that's horrible.....something stinks around here!!!

oh it's bellhorn striking out for the third time..Again.

get rid of him, or least give him some shampoo.

Actually your right, he just downright sucks. If a pitcher has a better batting average than him, which Dontrelle Willis does, he might as well go shoot himself.

I wouldn't go so far as to say he's done alot for the team. He's had moments, but mostly I find myself rooting for a walk when this guy is at the plate. Ultimately you have to judge a player on whether his upside outweighs his downside, and so far this year the K's and pop ups are hurting this lineup.

wow i got goosebumps i had pretty much called this one. when i first joined this site i noted bret boone's days with seattle are numbered and maybe sox should look into getting him as an upgrade. Before yesterdays game against Texas, seattle had cut bret boone from the team and put him on a 10-day waiver. was listening to WEEI, and talks are that Theo has been making calls at possibly inquiring the future Hall of Famer. even if bret becomes a backup to 2nd/ss, id like that deal, true he is struggling

Bret Boone is nothing short of having the devil on your team. What a jackass, I hope I never see him in a Sox uniform.

Note to people who can't take repeated comments from Mueller: he refuses to play second. End of story. GOD.

If management asked him to play 2nd, do you think he's the person who would sit and whine because he doesn't want to play 2nd? I don't think so. If management asked him to play 2nd I'm sure he'd oblige.
