I Love Bellhorn They should keep him:

He does strike out a lot but he also gets some good clutch hits. I think a strikeout is the same as a ground out (unless you have runners on base) and I'vve noticed Ortiz strikes out a lot too. Bellhorn is a great infeilder as well. He does make some errors but so does Edgar, Millar and Mueller. Maybe not as much as Bellhorn but it happens.

Keep him

He strikes out more than ortiz. They are kinda like a ground out but it proves that if they hit a ground ball they can HIT THE BALL!!! Also he is not a great feilder, he has never been. We got him a year ago to be a back up 2nd baseman, not a starter. But, yes he gets some good clutch. All in All, He ant very good.

He is in a slump, he has proven to the sox he can get out of those. Bellhorn hasn't proven he can get out slumps, He has been in one since the begining of the season thats why he hasn't moved out of ninth batter.

he hasn't moved 'cause that's hit spot in the rotation. and he has gotten out of the slump. he was .212 and now he's at .247 which are good numbers for him. the guy will never bat .350 'cause that's not him. so what.

Comparing Bellhorn and Ortiz on the basis of strikeouts just isn't fair.

David Ortiz is a power hitter. He's slugging .562 so far this year with 14 homers and 47 RBIs. He produces runs as a result of swinging very hard, and has a lot of success doing so. Power hitters strike out-- it's what makes them power hitters. He's K'd 46 times and walked 31 times.

I was defending Bellhorn's strikeouts last year (look it up if you want) because he was still producing runs. His OBP was in the high 3's, and he was hitting for a little power and driving in runs. I was of the opinion that he was one of the better run producing second basemen out there.

This season, Bellhorn's strikeouts have really been a problem. He's K'd 65 times (19 more than David), and only walked 32. A 2:1 strikeout to walk ratio is pretty bad. He still gets on base at a reasonable clip (.360) considering his bad batting average but his .365 slugging percentage is way way down from last year.

I've said in previous threads (and I maintain the opinion) that Mark Bellhorn is not the problem with this team's offense. More should be made of the struggles of Renteria, Ramirez, and Millar than those of Bellhorn, but comparing Bellhorn with Ortiz is just wrong.

I agree that you can't compare. but what I'm saying is that Bellhorn is Bellhorn. he's not very different from last year in most respects, although he did slump at the beginning. but guys like Edgar and Manny, you expect different things from them and they're certainly letting us down and that's why those problems should be on the front burner, not Bellhorn.

Edgar and Ramirez have got hot a few times this year, they might be in a slump right now but they have proven they wont stay in a slump for a long time. Mark Bellhorn hasn't been hot since he has been with the red sox. He has had a few clutch hit but no great streaks.

Yeah, thats good for him because he sucks! .247 that is horrible. By the way you probably are bellhorns biggest fan because he sucks.

Don't make dumbass remarks. soxie thefangirl, trust me... everyone on here wants Bellhorn to start hitting as much as you do. I personally don't have a problem with the guy as a person. He seems to give a good amount of effort each time out. The only problem is that down the road I think people are wondering if this is best for the team for us to keep Bellhorn at 2nd. Hopefully he brakes out of this slump soon, he works too hard not to.

once again. he's a career .260 hitter. if you want a bunch of .360 hitters on your team, go be a Yankees fan and they're still not winning. God. the Red Sox are made up of different types of players. I'm sick of this conversation and it's pointless for me to keep defending him on here since so many people hate him.

he's a career .240 hitter. i may sound like a Yankee fan saying i want good players at every position, but thats a good thing, because it obviously means i want to have a winning team. This is the red sox, not some small budget team. We're defending the world series, and we should have the best players at every possible position in order to repeat. Which means a more productive 2nd baseman, maybe a more productive 3rd baseman, and some new pitching.

Look, I'm going to end it right here. Bellhorn is roughly a .250/.350/.425 hitter. Is that above average for a 2B? Yes. Is he worth the money he's making? Yes. Is he filling his role adequately? Yes. He was more productive than Alfonso Soriano's worst season in a very weak AL 2B crop last season. He's in the upper half of big league 2B's and probably in the second or third tier. He's enough; he'll do. We have a superior option waiting in the wings who'll give us .300/.375/.475 seasons for the league minimum next season.

We don't need to replace him this season nor should we be actively pursuing a replacement when there are more pressing issues. He's a good enough #9 hitter, solid defensive 2B who turns a quick DP and he knows how to take a walk. RSR did a nice analysis on him and he's pretty much right.

It's over. It's done. It's not like he's in the long-term plans and he's enough for us now. Thank you, good night. Let's worry about something else now.

I read something to today that may very well change my opinion on Bellhorn. As of now as far as OPS goes which is supposably the best stat you can use to measure an offenseive player (not a hitter an offensive player) Bellhorn was rated #7 of all second baseman in MLB. This is very interesting to me my opinion of Bellhorn may be changing.

all-star is no guage of anything other than how stupid fans are.

nomar was in first place and he played 14 games.

you'll have to come up with something better than that.

There is no argument to begin with. 'Should they keep Bellhorn' is a horrible title because no matter what people think... we don't have a choice. Unless you trade him and a good prospect for a great 2nd baseman out there I don't know what we would do. You're not going to bring Hanley all the way up... Bellhorn stays, and in my opinion it's a good decision.

Biased opinon, come on he's really not that good and don't give me that Bill James sabermetrics s*** I hate VORP I wanna see numbers.... Average, HR's, RBI, RISP, and OBP

What do you have against Sabermetrics? I (and the Sox GM) happen to put a lot of faith in those theories.

Well Polanco was apparently available but he just got traded to Detroit, would have like to see the Sox take a shot with him. I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit looked to trade him again.

I don't think we should waste a trade on replacing Bellhorn. If Pedroia is ready I say get him up here... if he isn't, I can wait around this year with Bellhorn for next year. But pulling off a trade to replace Bellhorn I think would waste our trade chips with Pedroia sitting there just waiting to beat out Bellhorn.

Besides, I personally would prefer a few more homegrown players on the team.

Bellhorn is doing good lately, which i am glad about. Hopefully he can keep it up. Oh yeah, soxie, if you were offended by my post about girls always staying on one guys side and stuff, then i apoligize.

thanks. I was a little just 'cause it's not like I like him 'cause OMG he's so hot like a lot of (stalker, heh) girls. I genuinely like him as a player and person. I've met him a few times in a non-fan type setting and he's a great guy.
