Carl Pavano, RHP, Florida. Pavano's whirlwind tour of American League towns stopped in New York over the weekend, and the Yankees showed him the Big Apple. Word is, Pavano prefers a smaller market, or, if that's not the case, would rather sign with his hometown Red Sox than with the Yankees.

I voted Orioles.

Why, you say?

Because I believe the Yankees will persue other priorities. Johnson, Milton, Lieber. I doubt they'll be able to unload Brown, and with Mussina already in the fold, that's a 5-man rotation already.

Because I also believe the Red Sox will perue other priorities. Pedro Martinez being #1, with the potential for a Hudson/Zito type player.

And finally, because Baltimore will be stupid enough to believe signing Pavano makes them a contender, and overpay him.

i said orioles because like els I believe the orioles are desparate and consistently and historically believe that one free agent signing somehow can turn the whole team around.

I would say O's because they took Tejada away from the Mariners, even he said that he couldn't belive that he wasn't playing for the M's. But i did go with the M's this time, even ESPN thinks so.

WHO

Carl Pavano

Marlins

INTERESTED: Red Sox, Yankees, Phillies, Orioles, Mariners, White Sox, Tigers

Dec. 6 - Orioles executive VP Jim Beattie met Carl Pavano on Sunday afternoon, the fourth stop on the right-hander's tour, The Baltimore Sun reports. Pavano's day in Baltimore would have included the second half of the Ravens' game, but his train from New York arrived late. Pavano and his agent, Scott Shapiro, joined owner Peter Angelos, Beattie, VP Mike Flanagan, manager Lee Mazzilli and pitching coach Ray Miller for a three-plus hour dinner meeting.

"They're great people," Shapiro told The Sun. "Everybody's taking the time to give us an opportunity to meet with them. They're very accommodating. It's a special group of guys. There was a lot of really positive energy. What's not to like?"

Pavano's next stop: Seattle.

Sorry i don't have the link because it is ESPN insider and i don't have that.

Unfortunately, I say the yankees. It's been documented that Pavano is under pressure from his family to go to the yankees, and big Steiny over there has deep pockets and is hell bent on prevented another 2004.

the tigers seem to be on the verge of building a good team...they seem committed to spending some coin.

I still think the o's will try and out bid the spankmees and make this their hill to die on.

I read in the new york post that the randy johnson deal isnt exactly dead yet. Ugh.

I found this quote on foxsports.com on the flybys

Baltimore Sun columnist Peter Schmuck says he thinks it's highly unlikely that SP Carl Pavano will sign with the O's.

this is kind of a pointless vote becauseeveryone who voted is probably a sox fan.

Except for the fact that the Sox have under 50% of the vote.

signing pavano WILL make them a contender..

if they gave the yankees as hard of a time as they gave the sox their record would be much different. the yankees have like a .75 win % at camden.

the orioles are a dangerous team, they are 1-2 good starters away from being very dangerous.

Me too. According to Newsday, he wants 4 years/45 million. After the Sox buckle to Pedro, they won't have enough cash left.

... Marlins pitcher A.J. Burnett, a teammate of Pavano's in Florida, said he thinks Pavano will sign with the Red Sox. Meanwhile, Pavano cut short his tour of AL cities, skipping out on Anaheim to instead heading back to Montreal on Wednesday to resume winter workouts with his personal trainer
