I'm sorry, but I just can't help watching this guy. I find myself cheering for him every at-bat. He's on pace to hit 97 HRs this year. He hit them in 7 straight games. Steroids or not, this dude is the most dangerous hitter in the game. I personally believe he is on some sort of supplement, but not steroids.

Arent all supplements steroids? I think they should all be illegal, whatever you want to call it.

Although I am amazed by what he is doing, and I certainly think he has a ton of talent, the steroids thing has tainted his image for me. I'm not his biggest fan, lets just leave it at that.

I don't care what people say about the steroid scandals, Bonds is the most exciting player in the game in my mind. Every time he comes up you expect him to hit a homerun. That sense of anticipation is exciting to me.

Not really related, but I guess that people won't be diving into the cove to chase after every one of BB's homerun balls now:

Deisel spill

And I, too, thought supplements = steroids. I dont know what you're talking about calvnhobs6. But he is amazing to watch, steroids or not. You have to give him that at least.

I find watching Jeter's record-breaking hitless streak more exciting than watching Bonds; unfortunately, the MFY player just hit a homer against Zito a few moments ago. I had thoughts of ESPN, (as they do for Bonds on a tear), cutting away from their prime time hockey game so the fans could watch the MFY player go for the record.

Unfortunately, he did get that HR, but the yankees are still losing! Damn, I was quite enjoying his struggles at the plate.

No. Not at all.

The difference between a simple protein supplement and a gram of Testosterone is DRASTICALLY different.

Steroids are illegal. Supplements you can buy at a health store. Vitamins are "supplements".

Dave Ortiz is now tied with Bonds for HRs this year, and his BA has plummeted to an AWFUL .360. God, what happened man?

Anyway, he's out for a few days with back spasms, should be back soon.

So big bad barry says he open to play for any AL team as a DH, except boston...a town hes never been in...because of what people have told him is a racist town...

is this guy a moron???

him calling boston racist being from San Francisco, which is in California which is a whole racist state? ehh we dont need him anyway :)

Posted

Well, aren't MA and CA the two most liberal states in the country? I know that MA is at times considered racist, not in the "sit in the back of the bus" sense, but in the segregated, not willing to accept black people sense. The Red Sox especially have a history of racism, being the last integrated team in the majors with Pumpsy Green in 1954 (I think that was the date).

Jackie Robinson was looked at by scouts, as yeszir said, in the mid '40s, and WE PASSED ON HIM. I see where Barry is coming from, but Boston is getting better. He didn't need to bring this up.

Boston's always had this reputation. We passed on Jackie Robinson beacause he was black...

almost every state/town was like that back when robinson played...thats why he was the first black to play in baseball

This comment makes absolutley no sense to be made by Bonds. It would be a different situation if he has had previous situations in which he has been harassed by people in Boston in the past. But the fact of the matter is that he has never even been to Boston. He is just relying on this information from what his dad told him when he played back in the 60's. I would say things have changed since then.

Bonds' comments may have had some credibility if 1.) he had actually been to Boston and experienced racism or 2.) said this pre-1990s/Mo Vaughn era.

It's also kind of dissapointing because the thought of him going to Boston actually crossed my mind with all the money that will be freed up this offseason. A lineup including Ortiz, Manny and Bonds? :o

Has this been discussed here?

I, along with most of humanity, think Bonds has "partaken" in 'roids over the course of his career. Just one look at how his body proves it to me. I lived in SF for years in the 90s and watched him play. He is not the same guy now, and I don't think weight lifting contributed to his growth. Hell, his HEAD is twice as large as it was then. Alright, fast-foward to this year. One would think that is he took 'roids then, he'd back off now because of the scrutiny. But he has had a great season so far. There doesn't seem to be a drop-off in performance. That either means:

A. He's still on steriods (he's totally corrupt).

B. He stopped the 'roids (he never needed them in the first place)

C. He stopped the 'roids (but there is a carryover effect that can keep him hyped up over a period of at least a year)

D. He never took 'roids (and he's been framed).

A little help here?

I'm one of those naiive people who doesn't WANT to believe players take steroids.

Many people have written articles about how the offensive production this year is UP (in an attempt to prove that there wasn't rampant steroid use, because in theory, those who used to use will have stopped now with increased testing).

One theory that I think is interesting is this:

If Pitchers were also juiced, and now they aren't, in theory wouldn't the numbers balance themselves out? Pitchers wouldn't be throwing as hard if they had to cut back (this is the argument I read).

One thing I noticed this year is the increased amount of injuries. Could this be directly related to a cutback in steroid use? Who knows.

Just a few ideas on this topic that have been tossed around....figured I'd share them.

I say A.

I asked my dad this:

"So, if Sammy loses all his records and respect for putting a cork in his bat, why is Barry still known as one of the best players out there? Obviously Steroids can make you hit farther than with Cork." (I think x_x)

I was shocked. His father? I thought it was his god father o.o Oh well, but really.... Who says stuff like that TO THE PRESS?! When he knows what will happen...

PS: Go Tek! Just had a great save ^_^

Bonds can say anything he wants and get away with it. ANYTHING.

Bonds can be as racist, hateful and say all the derogatory things he wants and it won't last for 3 days. It's like black comedians being able to make white jokes, but if a white comedian did the same, it would be all over the news for weeks and he'd be labeled a racist.

Bill Cosby is RIGHT.

It is sad that is the world we live in, but it is true. I hadn't heard of what Bonds had said untill this, it's not on ESPN or anything, what would have happened if a white guy had said it, it's all over every news channel.

Okay! I thought I'd regenerate the Official Barry Bonds Thread. Tonite he's hit his 695th HR, and the countdown has begun. The man is too good.
