An unlikely situation, but bear me out...

Pedro's trade value is about as high as it will be all season.

He's already caused a problem in a clubhouse were many players were quoted as saying "[Francona] will never be tested or taken advantage of."

We already have an ace in Schilling, and his performance tonight (6 innings, 1 run, 1 walk, 7k's) makes him look pretty damn good.

With 5 contracts open at the end of the year, it doesn't look likely that we'll sign all of them. Thus, we need some new talent to plug the gap.

The anti-Pedro sentiment in Sox Nation is at an all time high, and things can only escalate.

Pedro's a whiny little bitch.

You make the call, personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded by July.

Wow, its "I hate nomar" revisited. Who cares if hes a "whiny little bitch" really. He pitches AMAZINGLY! If we trade Pedro for what we'd most likely get for Pedro, the sox would not be anywhere NEAR as good as they are now. The whole reason everyone is back into "this is the year" mode is beacuse we have both pedro AND schilling, not just schilling.

For years everyone's been complaining about "Pedro and pray for rain" but now that we have decent pitching its "trade pedro?"

Posted

I wasn't taking away from his pitching, which is amazing. Obviously if we traded him our pitching would be weaker, but we could get some really quality pitching right now and some good prospects for later.

As for the whole "I hate ________ argument", whatever. I'm not jumping on any bandwagon or coming out and saying "I hate Pedro." Maybe the whiny bitch comment was a bit strong. What i'm saying is that we could get quality and improve the team as a whole in the long run. I'm not saying we're going to, or even if I would. The point is that even though Pedro has great stuff, he's injury prone, he could cause a major problem in the clubhouse, and he has great trade value right now. And Francona isn't afraid to lay down the law. He wanted to suspend Abreu for the remainder of the season because he was late 3 times (granted, there were like 10 games left and the Phillies were a gagillion games out of 1st place). Don't expect Pedro to walk all over Francona, but expect there to be problems.

I'd have to agree with Yeszir. Pedro, aside from being my favorite sox player EVER, is a great pitcher who's always had antics that make us scratch our heads. As long as he pitches well (and sunday was well), theres no reason to trade him.

I agree with the injury prone part. I believe Tito WILL lay down the law, and if Pedro doesn't like it, then we'll lose him after next season. Sox don't want to pay him what he wants, that's fine by me. But I say let's keep one of the most dominating pitchers of all time while he's dominating, win the whole frikkin thing with him, and then after that, we'll see.

No way will they trade Pedro. RSN would be in an uproar after waiting however many months to see the 1-2 punch of Pedro/Schilling only to have Pedro traded. Plus, we all know this team was built to win THIS YEAR. Why the hell would Theo & Co. go and trade Pedro?

I don't think it'd breeze over nice with Curt. He expects Pedro to be here the next three years. Why the hell would they do that anyway? Because Pedro had a rocky outing (Actually a quality start) and left the game? Supposedly it's a DEAD ISSUE now and Pedro was smiling tonight. Probably because he didn't get fined..lol, but it doesn't really matter. Just SMILE, Pedro.

Here's what happened last season after a "rocky outing"

--------------------------------------------------

04/12/03 - 4.1IP, 9 H, 10 ER, 4 BB, 5 K

04/27/03 - 7.0 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 10 K

05/03/03 - 9.0 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 12 K

09/21/03 - 7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 11 K

What do I expect Saturday based off this information from LAST YEAR... Not 1999. Not 2000. Not 2002. But most RECENT season?

7-8 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 K

I'm dead serious about this one.

Hope you're right FourZeroSix (thanks for the numbers by the way).. I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little concerned about Petey but maybe it's just my "I hope I'm wrong...so prove me right" attitude I always tend to have with the Sox.

Wow 406 (its quicker than typing fourzerosix, my apologies for butchering your name), those are some awesome stats. I never realized that about Pedro. Maybe we should be cheering for him to tank it on one game, so we can get 4 amazing outings afterwards. :D

LOL, thats fine. "406" sounds and looks better anyway.

As for Pedro...well, I just heard that HALLADAY is starting that one on Saturday. Looks like No-Decision or Loss for Pedro no matter what his performance because you know the Sox bats aren't going to show up for him. They never do anyway, but with Halladay, even more so. It would be the s*** if he has to face Kevin Brown or Vazquez the next Friday against the Yanks.

I = going to be at the game. I'm glad too, because I have yet to see Pedro pitch live, despite the fact that I've gone to 30 or so games since he was acquired. (actually, maybe more than 30).

Well, Halladay was rocked for 6 runs in 6 1/3 innings in his first start, so you don't really know how either will pitch. It should be a good showdown though, IMO.

Hopefully the bats will be in the clubhouse for Pedro tomorrow.

We shouldn't trade Pedro, regardless of his "bitching." If we show him that he is important, and if he plays well, there is no reason he shouldn't finish his career here.

Bitching? He doesn't talk at all... LOL

Pedro won't get traded. He has too high a contract for all but a couple teams to take on, and he's an injury risk. Also, the Sox would probably have to take on another high salary to balance out Pedro's.

I have a feeling Halladay is going to throw a CG shutout.

Nah... 4 IP, 10 H, 6 ER sounds better now that we are a couple hours away. :D

Hey four zero six , you were as close to predicting Pedro's outing as you can get. 7 2/3, 1 ER. Nice job. Any thoughts about Gehrig 38 today. I think about 8 ip, 1 er, 10 K's. :P :P :P

Speaking of Gehrig 38, we need to get him HERE. That would be so cool, how did he find out about SOSH?

I think he is going to keep his posts on SoSH. He said he would like to make contributions on everyone's board but he obviously a very busy man and doesn't want his posts scattered. He doesn't see his posts on Sosh as being just for them, but for all fans. The questions that are asked and the things he talks about are as important and relevant as it can get. I suppose he just wants real discussion and not "What's your favorite color?" talk... not that anyone here would ask that. :D

How many popular Sox boards are out there (?) I've got these bookmarked:

Oh yeah, Gehrig38's line prediction: 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 10 K

He is going to fight Terry Francona to come out for the 9th... not yet, C. He'll do it next Friday against the MFY's though.

errrrr, whoops. I accidentaly deleted yagmaster's post about schilling. My bad, thats what fourzerosix was responding too.
