  1. Im researching think you are right. They can waive him, but if he clears, they cant just park him in minors.
  2. yup, theyll be in on everybody, and we'll wind up with Justin Turner and Rich Hill.
  3. Make Cora President and coach, and yes, we go right by the lux tax threshold and we'd be better for it.
  4. I think the bigger risk is that we dont because nobody wants to talk to breslow, not because of the $$ I think Henry gets too much blame and more should go to Bloom and Breslow. I dont think Henry has suddenly turned into Scrooge when he never was. I think he wanted to cut some cuts, so he replaced DD with Bloom, but I honestly dont think hes micro managing. I think Bloom thinks its funsies to get it done without spending money and I think Breslow cant get people to talk to him cuz hes an arrogant ass. I wouldnt say hi to him.
  5. Correct they cant option him, but they can waive him right? And where does he go when he inevitably clears waivers? I could be wrong and theyd have to outright release him? That would be wild.
  6. Mayer has the arm to play third, and I understand your reservations about Polanco and Kim (Torres isnt coming with the QO), but if we dont get Bregman , and Im starting to think we wont...Polanco and Kim are better than the third base options and Mayer (I think) has the arm to play 3b. Not a good sign that the team is "challenging him" to hit the weight room though.
  7. Hes an elite hitter, we dont have anything close. Hes not just a DH. Papi wasnt a luxury when he was here. He was needed. A masher is needed. I dont think its easy to trade for an elite bat. Im interested tho if thats an option. You arent getting one for a quantity over quality of prospects tho, and you arent getting one from a team looking to compete.
  8. Heck yes i wanna get the best bat that we can because hes better than all options by a mile that I can see. I figure out the d but i dont let it stop me from signing an elite bat. Yoshida hit cleanup in the playoffs last year. You are going nowhere without fixing the offense and we have to replace Bregman and most likely an outfielder just to get back to where we were last year. Schwarber chops a lot of wood. Understood the age, but the dude can mash and slugging tends to hold up better than fielding. I wouldnt get suarez to play 3b for example, because hes about the age where turner couldnt field anymore. Schwarber will keep cracking em and we need that more than we need any position. The positions that I care most about our 2,3,4 hitters. Not who is going to play d at 1b. Right now the closest thing we have to a slugger is abreu, and thats now going to win in 2025. Doesnt matter how good the pitching and d is.
  9. An elite bat, who is anything close to youngish is going to get 400m minimum and 8 years. Prob 500m. In open market. ANd you arent going to get one in a trade with a poo-poo platter of prospects.
  10. No, if a team claims him off waivers, we can either pull him back and he stays on the 26 man , or let him go and other team absorbs full salary (why nobody would claim him)
  11. His bat more than plays. Our offense needs an elite bat more than this team needs anything. They can figure out the positions.
  12. Id rather have the depth than the 5m. People can and will get hurt.
  13. I recall the injury affected throwing, and it prevented him from taking the field, so they IL'd him because DH wasnt open because Raffy. Not the case this year.
  14. Only if Schwarber plays first. You do not let Yoshida stop you from grabbing the best bat that you can.
  15. No, he'd just have to clear waivers (which he would).
  16. You guys are all soooo anxious to move Yoshida, and Im not against it. But this dude batted cleanup for us in the playoffs and we've lost more bats than we've gained, soooo.......
  17. They did, last year. Well IL, not worcestor. But same thing, really. Just a park aside.
  18. Thats because of restrictions that a 26 man roster imposes. Cant have a platoon at every position, and really considering you need to carry 2 catchers, that leaves 3 positions max for platoons. One is prob a defensive guy, so that leaves 1-2. I agree with you, most teams dont platoon, but I dont think its something that one should go out of their way to avoid. Sometimes, with positional versatility, you can carry a couple more (for example, if you have someoen who can back up a ton of positions, you can carry more platoon oriented bench) A lot of righties have splits too. I have splits. Im a righty and Ive never ever ever been able to hit a lefty. Well, not well.
  19. I agree have done well trading for SP'ers. I dont think the procello trade was big. Was it 1 yr of Cespedes for one year of Porcello?
  20. The one thing I know for sure is that it wont be every player playing the same position every night. There will be days off, platoons, injuries and yes, defensive versatility will get used. Youll see plenty of guys play multiple positions.
  21. Sorry, meant Duran playing full time DH in 2026 is beyond unlikely. And Cedanne never playing inf again is beyond unlikely. There will be a time when it makes sense to move him there. Hes a very good infielder, and if he isnt , he will be. If you watch combat sports, MMA. Some of the best submission guys turn into the best boxers. Its crazy but its more about being "the dude" than it is about experience. Whatever made Cedanne the best OF'er in the AL will make him the best infielder in the AL. It might be focus. It might be determination. It might be work ethic. Look how fast Betts took to SS and how fast Varsho took to CF (from Catcher) People who excel wind up excelling. Cedanne would be a very good infielder. Not saying we should put him there as plan A. But my point is just about likelihood. Theres a chance that Duran DHs some next year, theres also a chance he doesnt play against many lefties, theres also a chance someone is traded. Theres a chance that we use our OF overflow to cover 2b, 1b, even DH. But it wont be Duran DH'ing every night. It will be someone sitting some nights, or someone playing a non ideal position some nights, or a trade.
