  1. Reported 5yrs/$150M.
  2. That may be the one thing that would get JH attention the most. He can hide from the boos.
  3. If they go, and reduce the payroll, and don’t replace it with other expenditures I have no answer.
  4. As much as it’s gonna cost to buy the team I don’t think reducing the payroll would be that big a deal, or sticking point.
  5. It’s not just how much you spend, but how you spend it. Sale ext. story, and Yoshida don’t look like good signings either.
  6. Quantity over quality at its best.
  7. Thank god the Red Sox are not heading towards Pittsburgh. They did win 2 more games than Pittsburgh did last year. Money well spent.
  8. I don’t know why you keep bringing up JH spending habits from the past that has nothing to do with today, nor do any patterns. Times has changed big time the last 2-3 years, and salaries keep going up as well. Did anyone think Bogey would get $280M two years ago? Look at the estimates before FA started this year when the Yam Man got $100M more. It’s not like back in the day when the Yankees, and Red Sox were fighting over Tex. Now there is more owners involved, and bigger players then where JH wants to go, so what happened in the past with JH spending patterns really has no relevance today.
  9. He didn’t have as many other investments when he bought the team, but now he has a lot more, and the Red Sox isn’t as shiny a bauble anymore.
  10. I’m still surprised that if the Red Sox aren’t doing much else to improve the team this year that they spent that much on Gio. If he sucks, and the Sox suck again it will be a two year sticker.
  11. I take it your telling me he’s been good.
  12. Agree, and I’d be shocked if he thinks the price is right for what either of these two sign for.
  13. We’ve gone over this many times this offseason, and that may be right, but it’s also, because they are available, and there is a big need. Gray didn’t go from a $10M pitcher to a $25M pitcher, because he is so much better at age 34. Monty had a good stretch run, and postseason more than anything else.
  14. Exactly! Talking about contract history like every era, and every player was equal. Wow!
  15. Like JH said on F&M that LL ran the Red Sox.
  16. I get that point 100%. I’m just saying the longer you wait to do something to make the team better it gets more expensive, which isn’t good if you have a strict budget to work with.
  17. I’m not giving JH any credit for signing Raffy at all. I think he had to more than he wanted to especially after Mookie, and Bogey.
  18. Like I’ve been saying right along you don’t have to wait until the Red Sox are so called ready to go all in to get some better starting pitching. I’m not talking about 1 year bargain basement purchases. The longer you wait for SP the more the cost goes up. Gray at 34 is now getting paid $25M when he never made more than $10M before. I’m sure Monty could have been signed a lot cheaper even a year ago than what he will end up with now.
  19. Exactly. Moon keeps saying careful what you wish for when someone brings up JH selling the team. I think at this point most fans would take that chance this second. I don’t think someone would pay as much as it would take to buy the Red Sox, and then don’t put money back into the team.
  20. I wonder how ticket sales are going so far?
  21. San Fran has offered tons of money the last two years, but keep coming up empty.
  22. Thought was the key word, and that thought is getting less, and less every day.
  23. Yes Lester, Mookie, Bogey, and now. Not a good look at all. All the blame goes to the top. Even Shaughnessy just said he sees Bloom in a different light now.
  24. I think once again the Red Sox badly misread the room on how much money it would take to sign some of these guys, so when Breslow said he didn’t see financial resources as being a limiting factor he didn’t expect prices to go up like they did for the Yam Man, which went up $100M from estimates before FA started.
